Tensor analysis and Matrices: Algebra of tensor, quotient law, metric tensors, dual tensors, dyadics, determinates, eigen values and eigen vectors, direct solutions to matrix equation, iterative solutions including steepest descent. Special functions: Legendre, modified Bessel, hyper geometric functions. Orthogonality of Bessel functions, Hankel functions, generation of Legendre functions. Integral equations: Classification, degenerate kernels, Neumann and Fred Holm series, Schmidt-Hilbert theory. Greens functions in one and many dimensions. Calculus of variations: Variation methods; Weighted residual methods; Construction of the piecewise Lagrange and Hermite interpolations over the finite element in one, two and three space-dimensions; Raleigh-Ritz, least square and Caleskin methods. Stability, analysis and convergence of finite elements methods. EEE 3111 PROJECT DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT

On completing the programme of study a candidate shall submit a thesis embodying the results of an original investigation in an area approved and supervised by the department of electrical engineering. The thesis shall be presented in the thesis format specified in the faculty of engineering regulations. The thesis should demonstrate that the student has mastered the procedure of carrying out engineering investigations and projects, is capable of using the state of the art techniques in the are of investigation, and has the ability of critically analyse, to interpret and to concisely present the findings of the investigation.
