    Welsh at the College If you have attended a Welsh-medium secondary school prior to enrolling at the College, here is important information you need to know:

    Learners can choose to submit their written assignments in Welsh subject to awarding body guidelines.

    Learners can request notes in Welsh.

    There is a Bilingual Maths Terminology booklet available which can help greatly when making the transition from learning Maths terms in Welsh to English. This is available on Moodle .

    There are informal opportunities e.g. coffee mornings, trips to see ‘Jonathan’ being filmed to make sure that learners who can speak Welsh don’t lose that skill which is a great advantage in the workplace.

    There are opportunities for both Welsh speaking and non-Welsh speaking learners to follow a Iaith ar Waith (Language at Work) Customer Care unit across a targeted range of vocational subjects.

    The College sets out in its Welsh Language Scheme how it will treat the English and Welsh languages on a basis of equality. You can find the Schemes on the College web-site under About us > Welsh Language. There are also copies available at Reception and in the Learning Centres.

    If you have any queries about Welsh at the College, please contact Alison Jones on 01443 – 810142 or [email protected]

    Assessment Malpractice, including Plagiarism:

    Learner Malpractice Defined:

    ‘Learner malpractice’ means malpractice or suspected malpractice by a learner, candidate or trainee in the course of any examination or assessment. The following are examples of mal-practice. The examples are not exhaustive and other instances of malpractice may be consid-ered at the College’s discretion: Plagiarism; False declaration of authenticity in relation to the contents of a portfolio or coursework

    (Malpractice in coursework or within a controlled assessment component of a specification discovered prior to the candidate signing the Statement of Authenticity need not be report-ed to the Awarding Body, but must be dealt with in accordance with the centre’s internal procedures);

    Impersonation by pretending to be someone else in order to produce the work for another or arranging for another to take one’s place in any forms of assessment (including exami-nations);

    Misuse of assessment material/unauthorised use of material in any assessment activity (including examinations);

    Cheating during internally and/or externally set examinations or coursework assessments; Fabrication of results or evidence; Deliberate destruction of another’s work. The College has the right to reject a learner’s work on the grounds of malpractice if any of

    the above regulations are broken. The learner, parent or guardian (where appropriate) of a learner has the right to appeal against any decisions to reject a candidate’s internally as-sessed work on the grounds of malpractice.

    Please refer to the College Assessment Malpractice Policy for further information or ask a mem-ber of staff if you need more information.. Depending on the type of work you complete on your course, you may be required to reference sources of information from books, websites, journals etc. and your tutors will provide advice and guidance to help you with this. The Learning Resource Centres can also supply you with refer-encing guides. Assessment & Appeals:

    If you have any concerns about the assessment of your internally assessed work for public ex-ams (i.e. controlled assessments, coursework, portfolios, projects etc.) you should discuss the matter with the respective curriculum management team immediately. Following that, if the mat-ter remains unresolved, the formal written appeals procedure may be used.

    Please refer to the College Assessment & Appeals Policy for further information or ask a mem-ber of staff if you need more information.
