STUDY MODES Attendance: Unit delivered primarily via face-to-face or video conference attendance, at an ACU campus or another location. Multi-mode: Unit delivered via a combination of online content and a compulsory attendance component (including examinations, practicums, residentials etc). Online: Unit delivered fully online (including assessments). PREREQUISITES A prerequisite is a requirement that must be met by a student before enrolment in a stipulated unit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet all prerequisites prior to enrolling in a unit.

Working with Children and Police Checks

Those students participating in the Professional Experience Program (PEP) must obtain background checks as required by Federal and State/Territory laws. Please refer to your Faculty’s Work Integrated Learning4

webpage for requirements in your local State or Territory. The Professional Experience Office will provide further information about the PEP prior to students commencing the program. Supervised professional experience is at the heart of all our Initial Teacher Education courses and the Faculty will find appropriate placements to suit the needs of your course. Placements will usually be arranged for the scheduled placement period in the professional experience calendar, although this may not always be possible. Students in Western Australia should enrol in BRISBANE ATTENDANCE professional experience units. The Brisbane office will then work to secure placements in Western Australia. You will NOT be expected to relocate to Queensland to complete your PEP requirements.

LANTITE

Successful achievement of approved benchmarks in literacy and numeracy (LANTITE) is a requirement for teacher accreditation or registration in Australia and is also one of the requirements for course completion at ACU. 3. UNIT INFORMATION

Students can enroll in any offered mode of a unit (Attendance or Online), regardless of how or where they are enrolled in their course. Note: Minimum enrolment numbers apply to all units. The Faculty of Education and Arts reserves the right to cancel units with low enrolment numbers. Students’ progression will not be compromised and they will be advised of cancellations prior to the start of semester and offered an alternative unit.

LOTE These Teaching and Curriculum areas are defined by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA). Descriptions of each area are available on the QCAA website6. It is advised that applicants use this website to make themselves familiar with the areas that they intend to pursue. Study of Religion (SOR) and Religious Education (RE) are two different teaching areas. SOR is an Authority Registered subject with the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA), while RE is not. Students with two teaching areas in the Humanities, Commerce/ Business and Sciences will need to

negotiate their fourth Curriculum Pedagogy and Assessment unit with the Course Coordinator. In such

cases it is anticipated that students would choose a unit that would fit with their interests and maximise

employment prospects.

Midyear entrants will be permitted to study “Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment 2” units prior to

completing “Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment 1” units.

Students who are unsure of their teaching areas must consult with their Course Coordinator as soon as

possible.
