Document Revision 1: September 1, 2016

Proper lubrication is fundamental to the optimization of equipment performance, operatingcost and safety. To achieve this objective, facilities engineers, maintenance and operatingtechnicians need to understand the basics of industrial lubrication. Topics covered includepurpose of industrial lubrication; definition of tribology; nature of friction; lubrication science;hydrodynamic conditions; types of lubrication: hydrodynamic, mixed film and boundary;lubricant characteristics; nature of viscosity; mineral oils, greases and synthetic oils; commontypes of industrial bearings; antifriction bearing components; common lubrication systems andtheir application; key operator duties and requirements.

This course provides the basic "absolute-must" knowledge about industrial lubrication thatoperators, maintenance staff and engineers will find useful.
