AA cashless cabin AMERICAN Airlines will refuse toaccept cash for the payment ofpurchases onboard flights acrossits global network from 01 Feb. Passenger payments from nextmonth will need to be made withmajor credit or debit cards. THE support team of tennis starJelena Dokic was yesterdayembroiled in an inflight incidentwhich led to police being calledafter a plane from Hobart toMelbourne landed. Dokic’s boyfriend, Tin Bikic,and his brother allegedly becameinvolved in an argument with apassenger and a crew member,later issuing an “unreservedapology”. Dokic was on the flight - whichwas presumably operated byJetstar - but wasn’t involved inthe incident - which is probablylucky given that she’s on a $1msponsorship deal from the airline.

Tourist toilet rescue FIREFIGHTERS in the NZ townof Blenheim were last night calledto an emergency in which aChinese tourist became stuckinside a public toilet. Ying Chao’s comfort stop wasdecidedly uncomfortable, aftershe was unable to open theelectronic door on the toilet fromthe inside. She was very relieved when theofficers attended the scene andlet her out, in the processdemonstrating how to use thedoor correctly. The tourist had fortunatelymemorised the NZ 111 emergencynumber, which she called whenshe became stuck. “It’s the only number I knowhow to call here,” she said.

QF defends BL QANTAS has reaffirmed itscommitment to its VietnameseJetstar Pacific offshoot, which isfacing an ongoing investigation byauthorities who have stoppedsenior QF executives from leavingthe country. QF ceo Alan Joyce wasresponding to a Civil AviationAdministration of Vietnam reporton the carrier, which identified “anumber of administrative andquality issues related to theairline’s operations. “We remain confident in ourinvestment in Jetstar Pacific andconfident in the airline’s totalcommitment to safety,” he said. Joyce confirmed that inaddition to the Vietnamese probe,Qantas had supported a numberof “routine and independentaudits” to assess Jetstar Pacific’smaintenance, which hadconcluded there were no safetyconcerns. He blasted union comments onthe matter, saying officials were“taking an opportunistic andcynical approach based on a verypoor understanding of the issue.”

“Business as usual” at JAL JAPAN’S Enterprise TurnaroundInitiative Corporation has issued astatement of support for thecontinuing operations of JapanAirlines, in the face of increasingexpectations the carrier is set todeclare bankruptcy shortly. Shares in JAL have plummeted90% over the last two days. The ETIC confirmed that it’s inthe process of forming a “businessrevitalisation plan” for the carrier,adding that “we intend to ensureall of its business operations onand off the groundsto be performed smoothly withoutany interruption as usual”. Spelling it out further, ETIC saysthere will be no impact on thecarrier’s creditors with allpayments to be honoured, whilethere will also be “no influenceover the usage of the flighttickets i.e. all the flight ticketsare to be used as usual includingchanges, refunds and etc”. Leasing fees for aircraft willalso be paid as usual, and flight

coupons issued for shareholderswill remain valid until the originalexpiry dates. ETIC also confirmed that therewould be no impact on JAL’sfrequent flyer program, withpoints able to be used as usual. The corporation has alsoannounced that 77-year-oldbillionaire Kazuo Inamori will thecarrier’s next chief executive. Inamori, who foundedelectronics giant Kyocera and isJapan’s 28th richest person, saidthat although he’s unfamiliar withaviation, “I’ve decided to acceptbecause the government and theturnaround body want to preventJAL’s failure by any means.”

experienced in selling online advertising.

As an important member of the Travelport Partner Marketing team,

you will be expected to explore new ideas, listen to our travel

supplier customers and deliver the solutions they need and value.

Using various marketing tools, you will create relevant, targeted

advertising campaigns to promote Travelport and its product

offerings with a view to selling online advertising to appear on our

product sites.

A background in advertising or media sales is essential along with a

strong, but consultative approach to “cold-calling”. You must be

results orientated with a proven history of achieving sales targets,

have a strong customer service ethic and the ability to re-contract

existing customers.
