In 1999, NSW Labor made a bold move to register Country Laboras its own unique political party. This reinvigorated us in our ght
against the Nationals, and allowed us to reclaim our historic placein rural and regional NSW. This year, Country Labor celebratesthe 10th anniversary o this momentous achievement.

The Conerence was a great success, with the Premier Nathan Rees giving
his rst address to a Party Conerence, and announcing an $85 million
Building the Country Fund.
The Premier also talked about the need to rebuild our great Party, and
rebuild the relationship between the Party and the parliamentary wing.
Ater listening to some o the Conerence debate, the Premierattended a morning tea or local Lie Members, and chatted to
delegates over lunch.
The Conerence was a great weekend o constructive policy discussion,
with issues such as the uture o our health system, access to tertiary
education or country students, the Federal Governments Fair Work bill,
carbon trading, indigenous policy and pensions debated.
Country members also enjoyed the opportunity to meet with each other
and discuss the similar issues they ace across NSW.

The campaign was launched at Mount Panorama in Bathurst with representatives
o the NSW Country Labor Parliamentary Group, Country Labor Councillors,
Chair o Country Labor, Bryce Wilson and Country Organiser, Courtney Roche.
Country Labor believes that the Rudd Governments $4.3 billion NBN is a
vital investment in the uture o rural and regional Australia. It will support
jobs and provide benets or healthcare, education and small business.
Ater 12 years in power, the Howard Government outlined 18 dierent plans
to provide high-speed broadband to country Australia but no action.
Branches and members around NSW have taken the opportunity to talk
about the NBN in their local communities, and have received strong support
whether it be on street stalls, at Field Days or in community groups.

First launched during the Hawke-
Keating Government, the Prime
Ministers Country Taskorce
travels around Australia, listening
to stakeholders and reporting
back to the Prime Minister.
The reconvened Taskorce has
already visited the key marginal
seat o Flynn in Queensland, held
by Chris Trevor. In 2010, they have
trips planned to the NSW country
seats o Page and Eden-Monaro.
The Prime Ministers Country
Taskorce have received strong
support rom Minister or
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries,
Tony Burke.

The Federal rural and regional MPs have reconvened the PrimeMinisters Country Taskorce to enhance the voice o country
Australia within the Federal Parliament.
The NSW CLPG has continued to consult with community groups andstakeholders around NSW. In 2009, they have travelledto thecentral
west, north and south coasts.

In 2009, the CLPG successully campaigned
to abolish the pensioner booking ee on
CountryLink travel.
The CLPG also continued to consult with country
communities around NSW, meeting with small
businesses, community groups, local government
representatives and branch members in the
central west, north and south coasts.
With Steve Whans promotion to Cabinet,
Christine Robertson has taken over as
Convenor o the CLPG. Country Labor
congratulates Steve, and wishes him all the
best in his new position.

1988, serving several dierent
ministries, including as
Attorney-General.

Memorial Light on the HillAddress was delivered by the
Federal Treasurer, Wayne Swan.
In its 25th year, the Light on
the Hill Address is the longest-
running annual country dinner,
and this year gathered over
300 people in honour o
Bathursts amous son,
Ben Chifey (1885-1951).
The Albury branch chose
to celebrate Harold Mairscontribution to Albury with a
dinner in his honour, and an
address rom Senator the
Hon John Faulkner. Harold
was the Member or Albury
rom 1978-88, and is, to this
day, remembered in Albury
or his ability to deliver so
much or his electorate.

(1897-1957). Eddie Graham
was the Member or Wagga
Wagga rom 1941 until his deathin 1957. He was the longest
serving Agriculture Minister in
NSWs history.
th La Law mal AddThe Gulgong branch invited Melissa Parke MP, Member or Fremantle, to
deliver the quadrennial Louisa Lawson Memorial Address. Louisa Lawson
(1848-1920), the mother o the amous author Henry Lawson, was a lielong
eminist, and has been called the Mother o Surage in NSW.
