Monthly Wellness Initiative: Anti -

Bullying Awareness Month!

For the month of October Fort Salonga & Park View Elementary Schools will be participating in lessons

and activities focused on building Anti-Bullying Awareness school-wide. Students will participate in

activities that promote friendship skills and acts of kindness, while also learning about being Upstanders

to Bullying & the negative effects bullying has on others. On October 20, 2021 we will celebrate UNITY

DAY. Please wear orange to school to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying.

Digital Literacy Month

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP K-3

October is also digital literacy month! Danielle Thompson and the IT department will be rolling out

lesson plans to our elementary level teachers that focus on utilizing technology in a safe and productive

manner. It coincides well with our anti-bullying theme since we know that in our modern world, a lot of bullying takes place through screens.

The Magic of Mindfulness: Grounding

This month's magic mindfulness technique is grounding. Grounding, like the body scan, guides students'

attention towards a target. This time, instead of paying attention to what we feel internally, we pay

attention to what is happening in our environment. Grounding asks students to focus on what they see,

feel, hear, smell, and taste... their five senses! We encourage students to use their fingers and start with

5 things we see, 4 things we can touch, 3 things we can hear, 2 things we can smell, and 1 thing we may taste. See below for the poster that we use in-school with students.
