What is Counseling• Counseling provides an opportunity for an

individual (or couple) to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way.

• It may be concerned with addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, developing personal insight and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others.

• The counsellor’s role is to facilitate the client’s work in ways which respect the client’s values, personal resources and capacity for self-determination.

What is Counseling• My Definition: A

Process where the client feels that he or she has been heard, been understood, has been able to share all the feelings without being judged and feels that it is not the end of the world.

Purpose of Counseling

• To gain insight into the problem

• To learn that the problems can be resolved

• To get a greater understanding of ones strengths and weaknesses

• To be able to accept oneself and work on the areas of concern

• To be equipped with the skills for issues arising at a later stage again
