FABULOUS EVENTS OVER 4 BIG DAYS!
Tourism Projects Development Workshop Recently, members of the Tourism Committee met on a Sunday morning to workshop ideas for projects and events to help grow tourism within the shire and to have projects “shovel-ready” for grant applications. The aim was to identify a series of opportunities that can be implemented short term and those that require funding and medium to long term development. Key projects will be developed into Project Outlines to make it easier to match with upcoming Grants. Community groups, Sporting Clubs and Business Operators will
soon be sent a questionnaire to identify development opportunities in their respective field/area.

WOMEN’S SPORT THE FOCUS OF GRANTS
FOR THE ELECTORATE Member for Murray Adrian Piccoli is encouraging local sports clubs in the region to apply for grants of up to $20,000 to encourage more talented girls and young women into sport programs. “Around half of all Australian boys are active through a sports club during their childhood compared with just 33 per cent of girls, and the participation rate for girls drops after girls turn 12,” Mr Piccoli said. “I encourage all local clubs and sporting organisations to use this opportunity to boost their female programs and events, because we want to see girls not only take to the field, but stay on the field.” Thousands of local clubs across the State are now eligible to apply for funding under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program. The grants will cover initiatives such as new sport programs, upgrades to facilities or projects that im-prove participation in sport. Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres said the program is part of a $10 million sport grants package announced by the NSW Government.
Grants are open until 6 October 2017

You might have noticed Council staff and Balranald Beautification Committee members planting trees around various locations in Balranald Township lately. In fact, 41 trees have been planted on River, Church and Bank Streets, as well as at the Lions Park. This tree planting is in line with Councils community objective of creating a “tree-ful” township.
