MAP…the traditional way

Vacuum

• Harsh on fragile product

• Unsanitary

• High energy use

• High maintenance

• Large footprint

• Slow cycle time

Gas Flush

• High residual oxygen levels

• Shelf life not ideal

MAP…the CPC way!

• VACUUM-FREE Shelf Life Booster™ technology

• Residual oxygen levels of 0.5% or lower when needed

• Gentle on fragile product

• Lower energy consumption

• Easy to use and maintain

• Sanitary

• Small footprint

• Higher production rates

How SLB™ Works

Trays are conveyed to seal head.

How SLB™ Works

Seal head lowers to mm above the tray, creating a chamber around the tray.

How SLB™ Works

Combination of gases best suited for the food product is gently flowed through the package, pushing out excess oxygen.

How SLB™ Works

Seal head lowers completely and seals the tray to film, holding the ideal atmosphere inside the package.

Xenon at a glance

• Leading producer of high-intensity, low-heat pulsed UV/VIS light sources and systems to quickly cure industrial adhesives, inks, and resists, lacquers and other coatings and to sterilize surfaces

• Primary markets:

– Optical disk: DVD and Blu-ray

– Medical devices

– Semiconductors

– Solar

– Vitamin D Enhancement - mushrooms

– Sterilization and sanitization

• Design, manufacture, sell and service lamps and systems

• Founded 1964

• World headquarters in Wilmington (near Boston), Massachusetts USA

Xenon’s core technologies

• Flashlamp design and manufacturing

– Power levels up to 3,000 W average(1 MW peak)

– Size to 30" long (linear) or 5" diameter (round)

– Various shapes to illuminate linear, rectangular, and circular areas and cylindrical volumes

– Several available spectra range from deep UV to visible

• Optics and systems design

– Optimize irradiance, energy per pulse, pulse rate, control interface and mechanical configuration to match application

– Electro-Mechanical,,Flashlamp and, Application Engineering displaces.

The Basics of Pulsed UVHigh Peak Power – Low Average Power

Substrate Temperature

Lower temperatures achieved with pulsed UV light can help improve the integrity of the product being treated. Key reasons why pulsed UV light minimizes temperature buildup:

• The short duration UV pulses reduce the time for heat buildup

• Pulsed UV lamps do not operate at the extreme high temperature required to vaporize mercury in lamps used in continuous UV systems

• Pulsed UV lamps are turned completely OFF/ON in microseconds, reducing the thermal component completely during non-treatment times,

Sun VS Xenon Pulsed Lamp

Pulsed UV System Decontaminates Packages Entering Aseptic Area

• Instantly kills microorganisms on the outside of packages

• Prevents the contents from becoming contaminated when opened in sterile area

• Prevents the introduction of microorganisms to a clean room or other sterile area

• Eliminates the need for vapors and toxic chemicals

• Can be integrated into most on-line isolation transfer ports.

The PULSED Light Process..

• The Higher the energy the Better the penetration depth.

• As bugs colonize they form clusters which are many cells deep.

• As intensity falls off it does not have enough power to overcome the activation energy required for a reaction to take place

More Ways Than 1 to Kill a Bug..• Multi Pathway Extinction

• Different parts of light impact the cell in different ways

• By using a broad spectrum light we can damage the cell in different ways to make repair impossible
