Students had a great time with Literature Circles, reading an assigned number of pages then meeting in small groups to discuss their books. To finalize their Literature Circle, students created a poster of their favorite scene from their book, trying to persuade others to choose their book for the next Literature Circle. Persuasion seemed to be the theme for the 2nd Quarter, because just before Christmas students wrote a persuasion paper. This was not just any persuasive paper, they had to persuade people to purchase them as they took on the persona of a Christmas tree. They stood in the hallway reciting their persua-sive speeches, as students toured selecting the tree they thought was most persuasive.

In November ICS, welcomed Sister Maureen Griner
Executive Director for the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality.
Sister spent the day with us speaking separately to
grades 3-8. Sister spoke about homelessness and the causes
of poverty.
We welcomed Sister back this month to discuss the topic of
serving others. Sister elaborated on the mission of the
Dorothy Day House of Hospitality and ways we can all serve.
She ended each session with her favorite quote from Dorothy
Day, “The mystery of the poor is this: They are Jesus and what
you do for them, you do for him.” At ICS, we are participating
in a school wide service project by collecting items for the
Dorothy Day House during Catholic Schools Week.
