EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES POLICY STATEMENT

Our aim is, to the best of our ability and in a professional manner, to advise and support those in the local community who seek our assistance so far as it lies within our competence to do so. The service is provided free of charge to all.

In our dealings with clients and third parties we shall not discriminate on grounds of race, gender, age, religious or political affiliation, disability or other medical condition or history, marital or non-marital status, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics. All shall be treated fairly, even-handedly and non-judgementally.

Advice and support shall be impartial, objective and non-prejudicial. Where for a particular reason there is a conflict of interest or a potential conflict which may affect the bias of advice or may be seen to do so we may decline to assist the client and refer him/her elsewhere unless a satisfactory solution to the conflict can be found. Where a conflict or potential conflict is identified the matter should be discussed with the Manager and considered in line with our policies and procedures.

Where a caller is known personally to a member of the staff of the Advice Centre care should be taken to avoid embarrassment as the caller may be reluctant to share the problem with someone known to him/her. The caller should be given the opportunity to speak to a neutral member of staff.

The same underlying principle of non-discrimination shall apply equally to the recruitment, selection, training and treatment of staff except that staff must have reached the age of 18 years. All staff will receive equal treatment.

In the choice of premises we shall have regard to the proper provision of facilities for the disabled and their access.
