Rikki

Hair & Make-UpRikki’s hair and make up will represent her rebellious nature, she will not spend too much time on her appearance because we want to avoid the stereotypical view that teenagers are shallow, only caring about looks. Her hair will be straight and worn down. She does not wear much make-up, just mascara, eyeliner and foundation.

Costume & PropWe are aiming to represent Rikki in a way that challenges the stereotype associated with teenage girls. For example, teens are often presented as moody, selfish and vein. However we want to move away from this. We could do this by carefully selecting the Mise en Scene to convey her character’s inner presence as kind, and dedicated. Props that will show this are the phone, which she will talk to fellow pupils and her two best friends on. Props such as her Samsung tablet will convey her modern personality and the fact that she is dedicated because this is where she will complete homework tasks. However one of the main things that we need to convey through Rikki’s personality is her rebellious nature. The way we can show this is by Rikki having piercings to show her rebellious nature.

BethOuter Presence:

She isn't as modern as Rikki is. She wears glasses which will allow the audience ti know that her character will fulfil the role of the stereotypical geek. She is always happy and wears a smile all

the time which is due to the fact that she lives a nice life. She doesn’t care about fashion as much as Rikki.

Inner Presence:Beth is a very happy girl she lives a nice family life she is an only child so she receives all of her parents attention. Beth is a very trustworthy character which is why Rikki trusts her with the

secret of her talking to the man online.

Context: Becky knows that Lilly doesn’t get along with her parents which as a consequence means that

Rikki stays at Beth’s house. Beth thinks that Lilly talking to this man isn't a good idea because she doesn’t know really who he is.

Hair & Make-UpBeth is also going to be a very natural looking character; she will wear minimal make up – just mascara and eyeliner – and wear her hair naturally up in a ponytail or down straightened. This will also help avoid the stereotypical representation of teenagers because she will be more nerdy and natural.

Costume & PropBeth’s character is going to be one that is a little more familiar to the audience: the geek. We will present this character using costume and props. For example, we can use technology such as a laptop to show that she is dedicated to her studies. To reinforce this, other props can include text books and a school bag – rucksack – which will be a feature of her costume. Big glasses – which are stereotypically associated with geeky people – will also be a prop that will make up her costume.

JoshOuter Presence:

Josh is the most popular out of the three friends he is very modern and stays up to date with everything. He is considered one of the ‘cool’ people in school. Mise en scene elements such as costume will be used to represent his character as cool and youthful through the use of jeans

and a loose fitted top.

Inner Presence:Josh, much like Beth, is happy with his life he doesn’t have much troubles with his home life. He

is concerned about Rikki when he learns of her secret.Harry is a popular character, his kind personality makes him well-liked.

Context:Josh is one of three siblings and relates to Rikki’s situation at home however he doesn’t feel the pain that she feels. He has more of a positive outlook on life, and this is reflected in his school

life.

Hair & Make-UpJosh does not wear make up, however, he does take pride in his appearance which can be seen through his well kept face; he is always clean shaven and gels his hair to style it.

Costume & PropProps such as an on-trend bag – which is currently a two-tone rucksack – and earphones will be featured in Josh’s costume. This will represent his character as cool and relaxed. We want to show that Josh is a stereotypical teenage boy by making sure that we don’t overcomplicate his character as he is a very natural character.
