Who Is Steve Linder?
I’m a baby boomer like many of you
I grew Up in Cambridge, Massachusetts
I moved to Key West, Florida in 1999
Then came 5 years of active Hurricanes
I needed a Plan B
By the time I’d moved to Florida I realized I could live anywhere
I was watching our government devalue my life savings by printing money to pay off our huge foreign debt
So my wife and I started looking around the globe
For other living options
Costa Rica seemed to offer the least risk for the highest reward
Costa Rica is in Central America between Nicaragua and Panama
Costa Rica?
It’s about the size of West Virginia
Costa Rica is less than a 2 ½ hour direct flight from Miami. Nearly every airline flies there daily.
Costa Rica is situated below the hurricane belt
Home to 4.2 million residents
It’s also home to 100,000 foreigners
Including more than 50,000 North Americans
Tap water is safe to drink in Costa Rica
The country contains more than 100 types of ferns, 1,000 orchards and 2000 kinds of trees.
27% of the country is national park or protected land
Tourism is the #1 source of income
Costa Rica is home to a dizzying array of fauna.
Toucans
Tree Frogs Blue Morpho Butterflies
More than 50 kinds of Hummingbirds
Humpback Whales
Olive Ridley TurtlesSquirrel Monkeys
Sloths
860 bird species reside in Costa Rica; including the spectacular Scarlet Macaw.
More than in the US and Canada combined.
Arenal Volcano
South Pacific Coast Beach
La Paz Waterfall
Costa Rica is loaded with Natural Wonders
Diving off Cocos Island
San Jose National Theater
Cartago Cathedral Casinos
And man-made ones
And for those of us who prefer to relax.
It’s a country with little government corruption.
And a very healthy economy.
The US is Costa Rica’s largest trading partner. Intel is the largest employer.
Costa Rica uses the colon as their currency, not the dollar.
Foreigners have the same right to property ownership as Costa Ricans do. It is deeded
and fee simple ownership.
The pace of life is slower.
Perhaps that’s why Costa
Ricans have a longer life span than those in
the US.
Costa Rica, a peaceful country, neutral for 200 years, was the first country in the world
to constitutionally abolish its army.
Focusing spending on Education (boasting a 96% literacy rate)
spending instead on education
Costa Rica is proud of a 97% literacy rate among its citizens; among the highest in Latin America
and…
High Quality, Low Cost Healthcare
(nearly free to residents)
Ranked higher than the US by WHO
After buying property there, my wife and I started promoting the benefits and lifestyle in Costa Rica
I am now regarded as an expert about living abroad, speaking to groups of baby boomers like myself who are
looking for warmer climates and a higher quality of life
We started a tour company
