Grupo ICE is the sole provider of electricity serving over 4

million citizens, and the biggest telecom company in Costa

Rica.

Customer Prole

Founded in 1949, Grupo ICE is a Costa Rican state-owned

holding company that controls assets in electric energy

generation, transmission and distribution. Grupo ICE owns

100% of the transmission systems in the country and provides

energy to 39% of the population. In telecommunications, it

services 95% of the population. It oers national telephony

services for xed and mobile lines, public pay phones,

international telephony and internet connection.

The Challenge

A solution that will insure production centers are connected to

control centers at all times. The systems were installed in tough

terrain volcanic areas with constant exposure to dirt, dust,

smoke and humidity. A mandatory demand before purchase

was that the products must withstand such conditions and

remain consistent and reliable. In addition systems must

comply with the company’s strict specs and requirements.

The solution

90 units of PS 1006 and 10 1UDC rectiers were installed in

the electrical division.

600 units of PS 1006 and 8 units of PS 2012 rectiers were

installed in the Telecom division.

Power System 1006 (PS 1006)

The PS 1006 power system provides clean DC power to sensitive

equipment, and at the same time charges the battery bank and

supplies backup power during mains failure.

Costa Rican Instituteof Electricity Case study

The PS 1006 contains a 19’’ surback that can house up to six hot-

plugged rectiers, a V/A meter or controller and an LVD device.

 Two congurations are available:

Basic shelf I

includes a 19” 3U shelf (surback) with up to six rectiers, a

digital V/A meter and an electronic LVD device.

Basic shelf II

includes a 19” 3U shelf with up to six rectiers ,SC 1006

controller and an electronic LVD device.
