“This is perfect on slightly greasy, second-day hair,” says Zoe, who’s style director for Wellafl ex Silvikrin. Take a section of hair from low down at the front of the face, just above the ears. Backcomb a little to give it some guts and then create a messy plait across your forehead. Any plait looks good, but pull in extra hair with each cross (French plait) for a really cool effect. Twirl the long end of the plait into an S-shape at the side of your head and fi x with two hairgrips overlapping in a criss-cross. >

This season’s sexiest hair? Bad-hair days made good. “The genius of these styles is that they rely on working with your natural texture ‒ even the bad stuff ,” explains celebrity stylist Zoe Irwin, who created the looks for our shoot. We’re talking central-heating frizz and morning-after messiness transformed with little more than a can of hairspray, your fi ngers and a few grips. Hooray! For once, you don’t need super-sleek,
well-behaved hair to rock the latest looks.

Magic frizzWho cares when you last washed your hair? Use hairspray to get the slicked-back trend. Divide off a front section of hair from ear to ear for the ‘wet’ section. Starting near the back of the head, spritz with PAUL MITCHELL FREEZE AND SHINE SUPER SPRAY, £9.65, and smooth hair fl at with a bristle brush. Repeat this, moving towards your forehead. Finish by scrunching SEBASTIAN PROFESSIONAL MICROWEB FIBER, £13.50, into the loose hair – perfect for that cobweb-style sexiness.
The big upForget trying to gloss-up dull locks – this sexy style is all about dusty, matt texture. Apply a volumising mousse, like LABEL.M VOLUME FOAM, £11, to almost-dry hair. Pull away a front section of hair, then backcomb all the hair at the crown. “Brush boldly into the roots until the hair stands up, then mist with WELLAFLEX SILVIKRIN SHINY HOLD HAIRSPRAY, £2.79,” says Zoe. Smooth the top of the backcombed section with a brush and roll the loose hair into the back of the head; fi x with long pins. Tease the front section over your forehead and tuck the ends back into the roll, spritzing with hairspray to secure. >

The big upForget trying to gloss-up your dull locks - this sex-kitten ‘do is all about dusty, matte texture. Start by applying a volumising mousse, like Label.m Volume Foam, £11, to almost-dry hair, not damp. (If you don’t want to wash your hair, just wet it and blow-dry in the mousse). Take away a front section of hair and then backcomb all the hair at the crown. “The trick is to brush boldly into the roots until the hair stands vertical and then mist with Wellafl ex Silvikrin Shiny Hold Hairspray, £2.79,” says Zoe.
Your tool kit
Naughty ponyKnow how your hair can feel soft, fl uffy and a bit unmanageable when just washed? Perfect! “This look works a treat on virgin, clean hair,” says Zoe. Wash hair with HERBAL ESSENCES UPLIFTING VOLUME SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER, £2.29 each, and rough dry. Create a centre parting and tong random sections of hair all over to give movement. Pull the hair into a very low ponytail at the nape of the neck (“Tip your head back to pull a ponytail tight,” adds Zoe), so it covers most of your ears. Gently backcomb the pony and let your natural static do its thing.
AGYNESS DEYNTOP TIP Agy keeps her short crop just on
the right side of messy by rubbing texturising wax into the ends.
ALEXA CHUNGTOP TIP Alexa backcombs her shoulder-
length bob and half pins it up at the back for a sexily scruffy up-do.
DREW BARRYMORETOP TIP Don’t fi ght wavy hair; rub gel in
your palms, sweep the front sections back and scrunch the ends for a choppy fi nish.
VICTORIA BECKHAMTOP TIP Add dry shampoo before
backcombing at the crown to get serious volume with a sexy matt fi nish.
