better serve women and men throughout the world through holistic beauty and grooming solutions.

“Using a much more holistic view of the consumer has identified all sorts of business opportunities for us [p&G],” Shirley said.

One of the key topics that he discussed was the concept of “innovation beyond product.” He conveyed that although the products may not be new, the ideas are new. “Innovation is the critical driver of growth and the lifeblood of the industry,” Shirley said. “We are putting

the brand in front of the consumer in a meaningful and relevant way with the use of commercial innovation.”

Another topic of conversation was the importance of Internet blogging within the industry, and the immense amount of product awareness that can be spread through social media. “The business model is changing with smaller brands having more success because of the Internet,” Shirley said. “Social media affects p&G’s communication strategy because we can create a buzz by pre-launching a product with social networking.”

mr. Shirley spent most of his career making major marketing decisions for Gillette, where he was responsible

for developing common brand-building capabilities across all business units. After Gillette’s integration into p&G, he drove the implementation of p&G’s new go-to market capabilities behind a primary focus on in-store execu-tion. “A lot of consumer choices take place right at the shelf,” Shirley said. “We have restructured around the consumer and we [as an industry] have a chance to help and educate consumers on the products.”

making the move to p&G opened many new doors for mr. Shirley, greatly expanding his capacity for ground-breaking success. “Our fierce competitors make us better,” he said. “I fear no one.”

national security correspondent for Fox News, and is now cancer-free after a year of fighting against Stage 3 Triple Negative breast cancer. “Look Good…Feel Better gave me my body armor,” Griffin said. “The program gives women diagnosed with cancer a weapon during their time of war.”

Pamela Baxter, DreamBall chairman and president and CeO of LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics, said that nearly 9,000 LGFB group workshops have helped over 50,000 women this year by instilling dignity and provid-ing hope during the life-changing crossroads of their cancer diagnosis.

“This year, there are more corporate partnerships than ever before, all designed to raise funds and awareness

and recruit volunteers to support program expansion,” Baxter said.

In the last two decades, with the support of the cosmetic industry, the DreamBall has raised more than $35 million in support of the program and the American Cancer Society, making it the primary source of funding for LGFB.

As part of the DreamBall’s fundraising effort, five women bid on and won a date with Old Spice model Isaiah Mustafa. The lucky ladies are Francine Gingras, Nancy Berger Cardone, Mary Morgan, Cathy Eckart and Kristine Welker.

G lamour magazine hosted its 53rd annual Top 10 College Women’s luncheon at Aquavit in New York City on September 8. each year, the event honors college seniors

who have demonstrated imagination, fearlessness and, as pulitizer prize winner Sheryl WuDunn articulated, young women who are “using their voice,” when many women around the world aren’t fortunate enough to possess one of their own.

An impressive list of past honorees includes Martha Stewart, former mayor of Dallas Laura Miller, author Curtis Sittenfeld and Unite for Sight’s founder, Jennifer Staple. This year’s accomplished women ranged from a star athlete to a physicist-ballerina to a creator of an organization that built two schools in impoverished Haiti. The Top 10 are comprised of Shabana Basij-Rasikh, Emily Elbert, Erica Fletcher, Sophia Khawly, Mackenzie Lowry, Maya Moore, Merritt Moore, Oluwadamilola Oladeru, Michelle Pomeroy and Amy Qian.

joined in on the activities of Fashion’s Night Out in New York City on September 10. In support of the fragrance industry, along with designers, editors and celebrities, they sponsored four specially decorated flower carts themed around their “One Drop Changes everything” campaign.

The carts, piled high with a variety of sweet-scented flowers, offered shoppers a flower of their choice and suggested a corresponding fragrance for purchase at a nearby retailer.

Dick Page, Shiseido’s creative director and master

makeup artist, produced a new look for this year’s Marc by Marc Jacobs 2011 spring fashion show during Fashion Week.

In collaboration with marc, they created a face that was inspired by the idea of the girl in the clothes and the clothes themselves.

After applying Shiseido The Makeup Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Day Lily, mr. page blended orange powder on top of the lip with a brush to make the color matte, which was the look he wanted.

“The lipstick pigments were too pearly, and I liked the original idea of a flat, matte orange,” page said.

He also used a light black pencil around the natural con-tour of the eye and a translucent powder on the cheeks, keeping the face very bare and fresh.

“I love a big, playful pop of color,” page said. “Last season we did bright pink, so this time I said, why not orange?”Dashing Diva worked backstage

for more than 30 shows at the mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at

Lincoln Center in New York City, painting the fingers and toes of models for Nicholas K., Tory Burch, Elie Tahari and Tibi.

popular polishes worn on the runways for the spring/summer 2011 collections were Concrete playground, a heather gray and miranda’s Law, a bright coral.

Nude and sheer-toned polishes like Chelsea in the Buff and Jitney to the Hamptons were also frequently used to emulate a more natural and

sophisticated look on all skin types.
