COSC 1301: Lab 12 (PowerPoint Chapter 4) – Landscape In Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, you developed a presentation on Waterwise Landscaping for your neighbors in your southwestern subdivision. While on a drive with your family, you saw several excellent examples of zeroscaping and captured the images on your digital camera. You are anxious to add these examples to the Waterwise presentation you have been creating. You also have been in communication with a company that you found on the Web that specializes in xeriscaping. The company, XericUtah (xericutah.com), has given you permission to use images from its Web site showing its work and demonstrating how beautiful xeriscaping can be. COSC 1301: Lab 12 (PowerPoint Chapter 4) – Landscape

In Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, you developed a presentation on Waterwise Landscaping for your neighbors in your southwestern subdivision. While on a drive with your family, you saw several excellent examples of zeroscaping and captured the images on your digital camera. You are anxious to add these examples to the Waterwise presentation you have been creating. You also have been in communication with a company that you found on the Web that specializes in xeriscaping. The company, XericUtah (xericutah.com), has given you permission to use images from its Web site showing its work and demonstrating how beautiful xeriscaping can be. In this capstone exercise you will complete the Waterwise landscaping presentation.

Insert Pictures

You need to open the presentation that you already started, rename the file, and save. You insert pictures, crop, size, and then position the images.

a. Open the file COSC1301_PowerPoint4_Starter.pptx, and then save it as lastname_firstinitial_PP4.pptx.

b. Insert a title placeholder text box in the upper left-hand corner of slide 1, containing your name and the due date.

c. Move to Slide 4 and then click the Add Picture button in the large content placeholder. Insert the COSC1301_PowerPoint4_Landscape1.jpg file. (Note that pictures must saved to your computer before they can be inserted into the presentation.)

d. Move to Slide 5. To create room for pictures, drag the right side of the text placeholder to the 1" position on the horizontal ruler. (Note that the ruler is not displayed by default. To display it, click the View tab, and then click Ruler in the Show/Hide group.)

e. Insert the COSC1301_PowerPoint4_Landscape2.jpg file.

f. Select the picture and activate the Crop tool.

g. Crop the green power pole from the picture (Suggestion: crop the left side of the image to the -3" mark on the horizontal ruler).

h. Change the width of the picture to 3" and let the height adjust automatically.

i. Set the horizontal position to 6" from the Top Left Corner and the vertical position to 1.83" from the Top Left Comer.

j. Insert the COSC1301_PowerPoint4_Landscape3.jpg file in Slide 5.

k. Change the width of the image to 3". Let the height adjust automatically.

l. Set the horizontal position to 6" from the Top Left Corner and the vertical position on slide options to 4.67" from the Top Left Corner.

Apply and Modify a Picture Style

After displaying the slide show, you decide that the pictures you inserted in Slide 5 would stand out better if they had a frame. You decide to frame the pictures by applying a Picture Style and then modifying the style.

a. On Slide 5, select the top picture and apply the Beveled Oval, Black picture style.

b. Apply the Picture Effect Preset 7.

c. Use the Format Painter to copy the effects applied to the top photograph to the bottom photograph.

Adjust Brightness and Contrast and Compress

You insert another example of zeroscaping in your slide show, but notice it seems faded and washed out. You use the Picture Tools to adjust the brightness and contrast tools to adjust the image.

a. Move to Slide 7 and then insert COSC1301_PowerPoint4_Landscape4.jpg.

b. Decrease the image brightness to -20%.

c. Increase the image contrast to +20%.

d. Scale the height of the image to 40%.

e. Drag the image to the bottom center of the slide.

f. Compress the image to fit in with the reminder of the information on the slide. (Note that this compression step should be accomplished for all pictures that are inserted in the presentation.)

The title slide of your slide show is rather bland, so you determine to add a. picture as a background.

a. Move to Slide 1 and click the Design tab.

b. Access the Format Background options so that you can select a picture fill.

c. Insert COSC1301_PowerPoint4_Landscape5.jpg.

Use the Internet as a Resource

For examples of xeriscaping you turn to the Internet and use XericUtah (www.xericutah.com) as your resource. Xeric's "goal is to create beautiful, drought-tolerant landscapes that conserve water, bring wildlife to our gardens, and breed aesthetically pleasing landscapes that appeal to all walks of life." Ryan Phillips of XericUtah has given you permission to include photos from the Web site in your presentation.

a. Connect to the Internet and go to xericutah.com. Click the link to jump to the about us page. Save the picture on the right side of the Web site as xericutah1.jpg

b. Insert the file in the placeholder on Slide 8.

c. Move to Slide 9 and then return to the XericUtah Web site. Navigate to the portfolio showcase page.

d. Click the first image on Row 1 of the portfolio pieces and then position your pointer over the enlarged image on the right side of the screen. Right-click and click Copy. Return to the slide show and right-click, and then click Paste. Drag the image to the lower-left side of the slide.

e. Copy the enlargement of the third image on Row 2 of the portfolio pieces, paste it in Slide 9, and then position it in the lower middle of the slide.

f. Copy the second image on Row 3 of the portfolio pieces and then paste it in Slide 9. Drag the image to the lower-right side of the slide.

g. Select the three images, scale them to 50%, align them at their bottom, and distribute them horizontally.

h. Move to Slide 10 and then return to the XericUtah Web site. Navigate to the xericplants page and copy the image of the flowers on the lower left side of the screen.

i. Paste the image onto Slide 10 and drag the picture to the lower bottom of the slide.

j. Duplicate the image and then flip the duplicate horizontally.

k. Drag the image so the groups of white flowers overlap and the two images appear to be one, and then align their bottoms.

l. Group the two images of white flowers so they become one large bar across the bottom of the slide. Change the width of the group to 10".

m. From the Insert tab, select Online Pictures, in Office.com Clipart, search for Petals, and locate the image of the yellow flower. (See the the Figure below to help select the correct flower – it really is there.) Insert the clip on Slide 11.

n. Size the image to 4" x 4" and then drag the image to the lower part of the slide in approximately the center.

Insert a Movie

You need to create a Resource page for your presentation. Not only will this give credit to your sources, it will give your viewers the Web sites to visit for more information later. Please remember that giving credit to your source does not mean you are released from copyright requirements. After creating the page, you insert an animated movie clip from the Clip Organizer to recapture the attention of the audience if it is lagging. You select a clip that relates to planting.

a. Insert a slide after Slide 13 using the Title and Content layout.

b. Type Resources in the Title placeholder.

c. Click in the Content Placeholder and then type Office of Community Services, press Shift+Enter, and type Fort Lewis College (http://ocs.fortlewis.edu/waterwise ).

d. Press Enter twice and then type XericUtah Landscape Design (http://xericutah.com).

e. Click the INSERT tab and click Video in the Media group.

f. Select Video on My PC, select p04View.mp4, then click Insert.

g. Click Move Forward on the Media Controls bar located beneath the video to advance the video to the frame at 2.00 seconds.

h. Click the FORMAT tab, click Poster Frame in the Adjust group, and then click Current Frame. The frame you selected becomes the poster frame and displays on the slide.

i. Change the width of the image to 1.3". Let the height adjust automatically.

j. Select Metal Rounded Rectangle video style.

k. Set the horizontal position to 7.4" from the Top Left Corner and the vertical position on slide options to 0.25" from the Top Left Corner.

l. Click PLAYBACK, check Loop until Stopped and rewind after Playing. Choose Start Automatically.

Insert Sound

Your presentation is almost done, but you decide that a soft background music clip that plays continuously on Slide 1 while your neighbors enter the presentation mom would help set the mood. You play a soft sound clip and then you modify it to play continuously in Slide 1 and discontinue playing when you click to advance to Slide 2.

a. Click the INSERT tab, click Audio in the Media Group, and then click Online Audio.

b. When the search box open, enter Hope in the Office.com Clip Art box and press Enter.

c. Select Hope sound clip and click Insert.d.e.f. Search the Clip Organizer using the keyword piano and locate the sound clip

Hope.

g. Insert Hope into Slide 1 and have it start automatically.

h. Set the sound options to hide the sound icon during the show.

i. Select the sound icon; click Playback tab in Audio Tools. In the Audio Options group, select Start Automatically, check Hide During Show, and check Loop until Stopped. In the Audio Styles group, select Play in Background.

Add a Transition and Animations

To add interest to your slide show, you decide to add a transition to advance from one slide to another. To relieve you of having to constantly click to have slide objects appear, you decide to add animations. While serving as a reminder of a skill previously learned, this step completes the basic process for preparing a slide show for a presentation: create

content, select design options, add objects that enhance your message, and finally add a transition and animations.

a. In Slide 1, select the Gallery transition and apply to all slides.

b. Select the SmartArt graphic on Slide 2 and then set the animation to Fade, One by one.

c. Select the SmartArt graphic on Slide 3 and then set the animation to Fly In, One by one. Select the bottom SmartArt graphic on Slide 3 and then set the animation to Fly In, By level one by one. (Select the group; select Fly In; select the down arrow on the resulting entry; select Smart Animation; then select One by One under Group graphic)

d. Save the presentation; then submit it, as required by your professor.
