NEW MEMBERS

Clark and Pam Turner – Payson, UT 1979 Red Coupe Recruited By: Utah Auto Expo

Henry (Bud) Metivier – Weston, ID 2008 Burgundy Coupe Recruited By: Richard Pape

GETTING TO KNOW THE MEMBERS

CLARK AND PAM TURNER

Clark and Pam met in the marching band at Brigham Young University in 1984, and were married in June of that year. Clark is from Springville, graduating from SHS in 1979, and Pam (Peterson) is from Fairview, graduating from North Sanpete in 1982. They were both in band in high school (trumpet and flute respectively) and continued the tradition at BYU.

After graduating from BYU, Clark decided to stay on in graduate school and earned a PhD in analytical chemistry in 1991. He now has a small company specializing in portable x-ray equipment. He loves anything to do with science and technology. Hobbies include working in the yard, cycling, golf, and an occasional hike in the mountains.

Besides raising the kids, Pam has a career as a professional cook. She worked for a time at Cracker Barrel restaurant in Springville, and now works part-time at Dalton's restaurant in Payson. She has a collection of probably 300 cook books! She still plays the flute regularly, and is in both the Payson City band and in Provo's Freedom Band.

They have 4 wonderful children, Doug (21), Robert (18), Sean (17), and Aubrie (13). The family is shown here in their matching Corvette t-shirts after a family vacation to the National Corvette museum – and a tour of the Corvette factory – in Bowling Green, Kentucky in the summer of 2008. It was the kid's idea to vacation at the Corvette factory. They've been fans of the Corvette for years – and finally got Mom and Dad excited too!

Right across the street from the National Corvette Museum is a used-car dealership specializing in, you guessed it, Corvettes. The family stopped in, and fell in love with a red 1979 C3 Corvette! They hadn't really planned to buy anything on their vacation – but were more than happy to take turns driving it home from Kentucky, anyway. This is our first Corvette, and will probably be a long-time keeper. (Note that Clark graduated from high school in 1979. Now Pam thinks she needs a 1982 model!).

BUD METIVIER

Bud was born in Rhode Island. Is a Nave Vet. He now lives in Weston, Idaho just North of the Utah line. Bud worked for 20 years in Logan, Utah for Herff Jones, they are one of the largest companies that make yearbooks. Bud has been single for 35+ years and has a son that is 38 that lives in North Logan. He has 3 grandsons. He loves to fish and take care of his cats, he loves animals.

This is Bud 2nd Corvette back in 1978 he bought a brand new one. He like most wish he kinda had the old one back just to take to car shows and show it off. To cruise he loves his 2008 Burgandy coupe he bought from one of our members just a couple of months ago.

Bud plans to make the over-nighter to Jackson with us so he can meet a few of the club members. He says "I have a lot of free time and just want to get out and enjoy this Corvette"

NCM’S WIL COOKSEY INJURED ON MOTORCYCLE

From: Charley Robertson

[A few weeks ago], Corvette friend and retired Assembly Plant Manager, Wil Cooksey was injured while riding his motorcycle with friends during the Corvette Forum weekend festivities.

The steering on his motorcycle locked up and resulted in a broken leg and some bruises for Wil, who is at home and recovering well. Wil’s bike was destroyed but we are thankful that he is safe and recuperating. If you would like to share a get well wish card to Wil we will be happy to make

sure he receives them. Mail your cards to The National Corvette Museum – 350 Corvette Drive, Bowling Green, KY 42101. Attn: “Get Well Wil”.

GM’S HENDERSON: CORVETTE’S FUTURE IS SECURE

By Dale Jewett

The future of the Chevrolet Corvette is secure, General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson says, even has GM dramatically slashes its size and costs.

In an exclusive interview with AutoWeek, Henderson says that not only is the Corvette's current platform undergoing continual development, but the future seventh-generation car, dubbed C7, is also on track.

He would not specify when the C7 Vette would hit showrooms.

Henderson was bullish on Corvette. Not only is he a Corvette enthusiast who drives one, he knows that it contributes to the company's bottom line.

According to GM's top man, "Corvette pays its rent."

The current sixth-generation C6 Corvette has been in production since 2005. The C6 platform used major components from the C5 fifth-generation Corvette, but with substantial upgrades.

AutoWeek reported in October that work on the C7 Vette had been put on an indefinite hold as GM scrambled to cut costs. The talk then was that the C6 platform could be as old as 12 years before the C7 was ready to go.

NATIONAL CARAVAN AND LABOR DAY UPDATE

A 15th Anniversary Update from Roc Linkov (Abridged)

It won't be long now Caravaners when you'll be heading out on the road for one of the greatest events you can take part in. Just to bring you up to date here is a list of some of the newest developments:

We are in the process of obtaining additional parking in the general Museum area which is much closer than the airport. We will still run continuous shuttles from those locations to the NCM.

A new expanded 15th Anniversary Agenda has been posted on the website - http://www.corvettemuseum.com/registration/celebration/info.shtml

The Caravan and the 15th Anniversary are two separate but complementary events. You need to sign up for the Anniversary if you want to be able to do things at the Museum and satellite locations.

Caravan registration includes a hard card, dash plaque, car decal and T-shirt. All but the shirt will be mailed out ahead of time. Anniversary registration gives access to the Museum and includes a special hardcard and lanyard, dash plaque, pin, NCM admission (for non-members), access to all of the activities and seminars, and membership at a 20% discount for non-members.

Experience the pride and enthusiasm of being a member of your National Corvette museum. Go on-line to, http://www.corvettemuseum.org/ and check out your membership options. Also, see me, your NCM/CCU Ambassador for more information, and remember the Wave.

ROUTE 66 FUN RUN AT KINGMAN

The Route 66 Fun Run at Kingman, Arizona is an annual tradition for CCU. It’s always the first overnight trip of the year. Reports back from the trip indicated they had a great time. It was cold up in Seligman but hot when they went through Bull Head City. This year’s route was down through Kanab, South Rim of the Grand Canyon, and finally to Kingman. They had to dress up and work for their dinner at Kanab. The parade at Seligman had lots of neat cars as usual and most of the club ended up in front of the Power House Museum for the Kingman Car Show. The next day, the donkeys were out in Oatman. They are your best friend, if you have a bag of carrots. Their last night was in Mesquite where they had a whole building at the Casino to themselves. It was another successful trip thanks to Bernie.

10

Next year, there are plans in the works to do the entire Route 66, Santa Monica to Chicago after the Route 66 Fun Run at

Kingman. Stay tuned for the details.

WSCC VIVA LAS VEGAS CORVETTE CONVENTION

Twenty-six members of the Corvette Club of Utah attended the 2009 Western States Corvette Councils Las Vegas Convention. CCU members participated in a variety of events including a poker run, a blackjack tournament, autocross, drag racing, an outstanding car show under the dome on Fremont Street, a visit to a Chevy museum with a BBQ, a rooftop party and much more. On Sunday evening there was a Hospitality Suite Competition among several of the 31 clubs attending. CCUs Suite was a smash with Amber Gaylor using her make-up artist skills to tattoo visitors with Corvette related markings including C5 & C6 logos. One gentleman had Corvette script tattooed across his forehead. All that attended thought that this event was outstanding. Hot Nevada Vettes, the host club made all who attended feel welcome. Their efforts to organize the event were greatly appreciated by all who attended.

CALIFORNIA COAST CRUISE TO HEARST CASTLE

The California Coast Cruise was completed on May 16th to May 24th. The fires in Santa Barbara caused some last minutes changes to the route, but the group had a great time. The group still visited the California Coast and Hearst Castle but added some Central California sights to make up for missing Santa Barbara. Some of the group ventured down to Santa Barbara from Solvang while the wife’s were shopping and reported back on how bad it was on the big homes up on the hill above Santa Barbara.

MAY 2009 MEMBERSHIP MEETING

The May membership meeting was held on May 20th at Larry H. Miller Chevrolet. Paul started out the meeting with a report on how the club is organized under Utah state law and liability insurance coverage for the club. The membership voted to buy a annual liability policy to protect the officers of the club. A report was also provided on the Corvette Caravan 2009, upcoming cruises and events. Awards were presented to the club and club members who participated in the WSCC Viva Las Vegas Convention. Finally, door prizes were drawn, one per member family. The club has restarted the collection of small motel toiletries and pop top tabs. Just bring them to any club meeting.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN CORVETTE CLUB SOCIAL

A few CCU members joined up with the Rocky Mountain Corvette Club at the Hill AFB Museum on a rainy Sunday on May 24th. Following the museum they had lunch with them at Famous Dave’s BBQ in Layton followed by a tour of the Kennecott Mine. The Rocky Mountain club was impressed by the number of CCU members who met and socialized with them during their visit to Utah.

MAY BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST

The May Birthday Breakfast was held on May 31st at the Golden Corral in Orem, UT. The names of members with birthdays in May were recognized. The breakfast was followed by a short cruise.

JUNE EVENTS

RC WILLEY 5TH

ANNUAL CAR SHOW

We had a great turn out the RC Willey’s 5th Annual Car Show on June 6th. We put the mustang club to shame. As promised, hot dogs and drinks were furnished. Everyone received a door prize (A Key Chain Flashlight) followed by some great raffle prizes, the best being a flat screen television. The weather was great and it was a steady crowd. For those of us that got raffle prizes bigger than our Corvettes, RC Willey provided free home delivery.

MOUNTAIN WEST STREET NEWS PICNIC

The Mountain West Street News Picnic was held on Sunday, June 7th. They always promise to hold it rain or shine. This year it was in the rain. This is an important fund raiser for Mountain West Street News Picnic and allows them to continue to publish their news letter with information on all of the car clubs and shows along the Wasatch Front. Thanks for your support.

CRUISIN’ THE BOULEVARD COATS FOR KIDS

The Crusin’ the Boulevard Coats for Kids Car Show was held on June 12th & 13th at the Bountiful City Parks. It was a wet weekend, but the Corvettes still came out for this worthy event..

BIRTHDAY CRUISE AND DINNER

The June Birthday Cruise and Dinner was held on June 13th. Many of you didn’t come because of the predicted “bad weather”. We had a dry trip till the end. We had the sun over our heads as we traveled the back roads of Logan and Box Elder County. The candle factory gave as a tour of their facility and a demo of their products. Light refreshments were provided. We ended the cruise at Bella’s in Far West where the rain caught up with us. The names of members with Birthdays in June were read. Unfortunately, no one with birthdays was in attendance.

12

JUN 2009 MEMBERSHIP MEETING

The June Membership Meeting was held at the Municipal Park in Roy on June 17th, and it didn’t rain on us. Instead, the planes and trains made it nearly impossible to hear. We got a chance to use the new club grill and show off the newly renovated and organized club trailer. We also used the new club portable PA system, and it was much better than the last one. Upcoming events were presented by the sponsors and two new members were introduced by Mike Barker.

AUGUST EVENTS

A WEEKEND TO REMEMBER CAR SHOW – AUG 1ST

Saturday, Aug 1st – 2:00 PM to Midnight on Historic 25th Street in Ogden, Utah there will be a motorcycle show/car show with as many Corvettes as we can provide. Since this will be in July, you may want to bring some chairs and shade. Staging will be at 1 to 1:30PM. Utah is proud to be hosting the 2009 Gathering of the Guard. They have selected Ogden for the mild summer climate, excellent mountain views, and some of the best motorcycle riding routes in the country.

This year’s COTG will be a time to remember. Remember all those that we have stood for, wars we have fought, and the freedom we enjoy. At the same time, they want to make this a Gathering you will not soon forget. It will be a weekend to reflect, a weekend to enjoy, and most definitely “A Weekend to Remember”.

There also will be bands, BBQ, Venders, and a beer garden. 25th street will be blocked off to bikes, pedestrians and the vehicles in the show.

The cost is FREE. Come for a few hours or stay until midnight. This will be an event to help promote family environment, not only for motorcycle riders but to raise money for charities, i.e.: the New VA home being built in Ogden and others.

We plan to travel from Bowling Green to Graceland in Memphis, the distance is 275 miles on the 6'th and stay at the Heartbreak Hotel. They have several tour packages to choose from, their site address is http://www.elvis.com/, or phone # is 1-877-777-0606, they are not taking reservations until November 2008*.* We plan to do the 2 day 1 night Graceland VIP entourage package, the web site has all the details. Then after the tour on the 7'th, depending on the time, we'll ether stay one more night or head toward Oklahoma City, then to Albuquerque, then home up through southern Utah. I have to be back for work on Friday the 11th. I know that ismore miles per day than most of the club members like to drive, so we'll probably have to split up after Graceland. We would love to have any of the other club members join us for the Graceland tour. It should be awesome. If there's any other info you need please contact me.
