CEN/TC 264/WG 17Past work (1)
• Development standardised measurements of coarse dust emission from open sources like stockyards, conveyer belts etc.
• First initiative from EUROFER later under the CEN umbrella.
• Different stakeholders from industry were involved.
• In the second stage also including fine dust.
CEN/TC 264/WG 17Past work (2)
• Discussions with the participants: risk of getting more environmental limit values.
• The legislation and the limit values are not harmonised in Europe.
• Consensus: the standard/method shall not be used to control or verify any compliance with limit values.
Overview MultiServ
CEN/TC 264/WG 17Future work (1)
• Industry facing already very stringent regulations from EU and the national bodies.
• Industry search for complementary tools or alternatives not for a double burden.
• The voluntary initiative should not be punished at the end of the process by fixing stringent emission limit values
CEN/TC 264/WG 17Future work (2)
• The competitiveness issue if EU standards go beyond international ones and where compliance is at stake only for EU companies (distortion of the level playing field).
• It is important to keep the NGO’s on board such as industries because of the field experience and the know how.
Conclusion
Industries are willing to take their responsibility in
standardisation work, but they do not want to put the
rope round their own neck.
