Cortina Homeowners Association Newsletter Second Quarter 2015 • www.cortinahoa.com The annual meeting of members took place on Wednesday March 4th. In order to conduct any associa- tion business at this meeting a quorum representing 1/10th of all eligible homeowners must be established. This quo- rum is established through a count of participants that have returned their annual meeting ballots via regular mail, online voting or in person at the meeting. For 2015 we did not obtain the required number of participants to conduct the business of the association. It was the decision of the board to adjourn the session until the next annual meeting date in 2016. One of the main objectives of the annual meeting is the election of members to serve on the board of directors. We appreciate the willingness of this year’s candidates to serve the community. Unfortunately with the lack of quorum we were unable to elect any new board members this year. The existing board members will continue to serve and we thank them for their willingness to donate their time and energy on behalf of the community. The officers of the board were established during the open meeting which fol- lowed the adjournment of the annual meeting. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, and cultural exchanges. If you are interested in your daughter joining or for more information, visit www.GirlScouts.org to find or start a troop near you.

As always we invite and encour-age Community Members to attend our monthly HOA meeting at Cortina Elementary. We normally meet the first Wednesday of the month, but watch the website for any date changes. The HOA Board is made up of community mem-bers and we are all volunteers so sometimes due to work schedules or family events, dates need to be changed. The entrance/exit signs to the community will be posted when the meetings will occur. We look forward to meeting more of our Cortina Residents.

Thanks to everyone for com-municating with us via [email protected], and thanks to everyone who lets us know that they appre-ciate the volunteer work we do on the HOA Board and committees. We love our community and look forward to watching and helping it to continue to prosper.

The Boy Scouts of America and the Cub Scout organiza-tion offers many opportunities to build friendships, give ser-vice, and learn life skills for boys ages 8-11. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participat-ing citizenship, and develops personal fitness. If you are inter-ested in your son joining, contact Stacey Olsen, 714-335-6010, to find your local pack in Cortina.

The Board of Directors has voted to replace the landscape lighting in all of the common areas with LED equipment. There are many advantages to switching to this type of lighting, including:

•Lowenergyconsumption:Many LED lighting retrofits have been claimed to dramatically reduce energy use, but in actual

case studies lower energy use is limited and tied to reduced illumi-nation levels.

•Longandpredictablelife-time.

•LEDlightsarelessattractiveto nocturnal insects: Nocturnal insects are attracted to ultraviolet light emitted by many convention-al light sources.

Come meet your neighbors and have fun at CortinaFest April 11, 2015

Attend a free workshop, get a free tree!

It’s the Spring edition of CortinaFest and once again it’s time to come out, meet your neighbors and have fun! There will be food, bounce houses, entertainment, face painting, and vendor booths. As always, the event is held in the common area park next to the pool and elementary school. We hope to see you there!

Cortina residents can nab a free tree from SRP simply by attending a planting workshop. Residents who do receive a tree and who want to place it in the front yard must submit an ARC Landscape change request. This form can be found on the website.

SRP customers wishing to attend must register and attend a tree planting workshop to be eligible for the SRP Shade Tree Program. You’ll learn more about the eligible trees, and the best methods for planting and caring for the new trees. The workshops will be conducted by the Valley Permaculture Alliance.

Three workshops will be held per day at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and

noon. Register now for these work-shops. The next workshop is March 21, 2015 at the Queen Creek Library. To register for this free workshop, visit www.savewithsrp.com/RD/shadetreeworkshops.aspx
