    INTRODUCTION

    In accordance with pertinent provisions ofRepublic Act (RA) No. 7722, otherwise knownas The Higher Education Act of 1994, policies

    and nursing standards are set. The purpose of this is to rationalize Nursing

    Education in the Philippines in order tomaintain relevant health services locally andinternationally. (CHED memorandum order,2007)

    Clinical skills such as the psychomotor, cognitive, and

    affective are important in the nursing profession.

    Furthermore demonstrated core competencies such

    as safety and quality nursing care, health education,management of resources and environment, ethico-

    moral responsibility, personal and professional

    development, quality improvement, research, record

    management, communication and collaboration and

    teamwork are need to meet standards in the nursing

    practice.

    Olivarez College is known for providing qualityeducation and good services to the studentpopulation as proven by graduates who are now

    employed in several health care facilities. At present, the status of the Nursing Course in

    Olivarez College as accredited by PACUCOA isnow stepping up from Level 3 to Level 4. This

    means nursing education in Olivarez College canreally help and give enough knowledge to itsNursing Students.

    The researchers, as BSN students, sought to

    determine whether the students of Olivarez

    College are already prepared with the

    necessary clinical skills and core competencies

    which are all needed for the improvement of

    the RLE program.

    Further, the researchers would like to find out ifthe content of the course of the College inNursing Department is considerable enough that

    its graduates should achieve and acquire. In this way, necessary improvement in RLE

    program can be proposed and this will bematching of content and competencies of the

    students while still in college with the clinicalskills and core competencies needed by the RLEprogram.

    On top of these all, the researchers would like

    to contribute the improvement of the RLE

    program, since the students are also expected

    to participate in the improvement of the

    existing program in the tertiary level.

    SCOPE AND LIMITATION

    The study was conducted in Olivarez College (ParaaqueCampus, Dr. Arcadio Santos Avenue, Sucat Road, ParaaqueCity) June 20010 to march 2011.

    It covered the Correlating Clinical Skills and CoreCompetencies: Analysis to Improve nursing care aptitudes.

    Further, it sought to find out the profile of respondents andif there is a significant relationship on the perception of therespondents between clinical skills and core competenciesof BSN students to improve their RLE program.

    This study was limited to the BSN students in the Nursingprogram.

    SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

    This research enumerated its importance and to whom it isbeneficial:

    Nursing Department. The study can help the NursingDepartment in motivating students and faculty members.

    Faculty. This study will benefit the teachers in improvingtheir strategies in

    teaching and encouraging students to finish their studies.

    Students. This study will be useful for the BSN Students toimprove their

    perception towards the Nursing Department of the school. Future researchers. This study will serve as their future

    reference materials or guide for the future research.

    METHODOLOGY

    In this study, descriptive research design was used todescribe or explain the phenomena. This type ofresearch is use to describe methodically, factuallyaccurately, and objectively a situation, problem or

    phenomena. A total of 65 respondents were involved in this study,They are randomly chosen from one hundred eighty-nine (189) students enrolled during the school year2010 2011.

    The researchers used random sampling technique, astatistical method performed by selecting a group ofsubjects for study.

    METHODOLOGY

    The researchers used modified questionnaire coming from the

    competency standards of the commission on higher education.

    First part of the questionnaire tackled about the demographic

    profile of the respondents, namely; age and gender.

    Second part is the is all about the clinical skills such as,

    psychomotor, cognitive and affective skills.

    Third part of the questions that are pertaining to the Nursing Core

    Competencies such as Safe and Quality nursing care,

    management of resources and environment, health education,

    ethic/moral responsibility, personal and professional

    development, research, record management, communication,

    collaboration and teamwork and legal responsibility.

    METHODOLOGY

    The researchers used the five-point Likerts

    Scale to rate the perceptions of the

    respondents and describe the meaning of

    each.

    The statistical treatment used in this study

    were percentage, frequency, weighted mean

    and pearson r formulas.

    gold mining profession .

    this will also increases

    the competence of the

    students to become a

    better future nurses.

    The college seeks the holistic

    formation of young men and

    women to

    come professionally competent

    to address the health needs forsociety. In this study, it showed

    that every nursing students

    should posses different clinical

    skills based on the 11 core

    competencies in order to be

    proficient future nurses.

    The null hypothesis

    was rejected with the r-

    value of 0.95 in 0.90 and

    4.29 over-all mean in

    cognitive skills with a

    degree of High Correlation.In addition with regards to

    psychomotor skills, null

    hypothesis is rejected,

    over-all mean of 4.45 with a

    r-value of 0.97 with a

    degree of High Correlation.

    Lastly, affective skills, nullhypothesis is rejected,

    over-all mean of 4.45 and

    0.90 with a r-value of 0.97

    also with a High Correlation
