Rev. Fr. Patrick J. Callan

Born 12 June 1935

Ordained a Priest 3 June 1961

Rest in Peace 8 August 2020

In the quiet of the night, Our Lord called home to heaven our beloved Father Pat. He came to Corpus Christi 7 years ago after retiring from being Pastor at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Point Lookout. He had been Pastor in two other parishes, including St. Anne’s in Brentwood from 1985-1994, where he was born and baptized as a child. Father Pat lived here in Mineola during the 1970’s, when he was caring for the sick as a hospital Priest-Chaplin (when he wasn’t on the golf course!). He always loved the rectory life with his brother priests, and always felt the love of our staff and parishioners who embraced him. Father Pat was constantly available for Mass and Confession, even as his health declined. He leaves behind one sister Catherine, and two brothers Bernie and John, along with several nieces and nephews. May his Irish-born father & mother, Catherine and Bernard, welcome him home to paradise!

THE CORPUS CHRISTI “CONTINUING THE

EDUCATIONAL MISSION” SCHOLARSHIP AWARD UPDATE

Back in January, we announced the establishment of the Corpus Christi “Continuing the Educational Mission” Scholarship Award. The intent of the scholarship award was even though our beloved parish school closed, the mission of educating the young people of our parish

continues. It is in this spirit that the scholarship award was been established.

A committee of 9 members of our parish family consisting of educators from grammar, middle, high school and college as well as members from the financial community was formed and worked on this award program for several months and developed this scholarship.

The funding for these scholarships comes directly from the investment income earned from the proceeds of the sale of the Searing Avenue properties and not from any weekly or special parish collections.

13 young men and women from our parish submitted applications for the scholarship. Last Sunday at the 10:00am mass, Fr. Malcolm announced the recipients of the scholarships. A $5,000 scholarship was awarded to Mark DaCosta who will be entering his freshman year at Chaminade High School this September and a $5,000 scholarship was awarded to Connor Cunha who will be entering his sophomore year of college at Sacred Heart University. Both young men are active members of our parish and community and embody our Catholic faith and values.

I would like to thank the members of the Scholarship committee: Susan Anaischek, Diane Ondris, Cindy Lopes, Teresa Ferreira, Jeremy Reyes, Dolores & George Kraus, Kathy Raspen & Anne Marie Ely for their hard work and dedication in designing, formulating the eligibility requirements and conducting the one on one interviews.

Eagle Scout Project Blessing

Sunday 23 August, 7:00 PM Mass Followed by a blessing at our school (7:30 PM)

All are invited to share in the success of Eagle Scout Domingos DaSilva, his family and Boy Scout Troop 45 for the wonderful work they did to enhance the beauty of our Corpus Christi school building.

Parish Outreach proudly sponsors our 3rd Annual: “Learning can be fun if you have the right tools”

Some children in our community don’t have or can’t afford the right tools. Buying school supplies may be difficult for local families going through tough financial times especially in this time of Covid-19. We, as a parish, we as members of the Mineola community, want to make a difference in their lives by providing the right tools they need to succeed. Through our school supply drive, we will be able to provide children with the basic supplies they need to be prepared for school this September whether in person or virtual learning. The school supplies drive is running from now until Labor Day weekend. The children need the following supplies:

• Backpacks • Staples Gift Cards • New notebooks, both spiral (single or multiple sectioned) and marble (all colors) • 1” & 3” Binders • Dividers, 2 Pocket & Hole Punched Folders • Post-Its of all sizes • Baby Wipes & Tissues

With your generous help, we can make learning easier, fun and successful for students in need. Donations of school supplies may be left in the lobby of the Church. Please place them in the same chest that we now use for food donations. You may also bring these supplies directly to Parish Outreach, Monday – Friday between 9am & 3pm.

Português XXI DOMINGO DO TEMPO

COMUM

Unidos a ele, estamos unidos a Cristo.
