Message from the Managing Director
In todays competitive and innovative environment, companies and countries that do not adapt get left farbehind. Our perspective on change is to encompass it, leadit and use it to achieve the desired outcomes.
We work closely with our stakeholders to anticipate change and transition, to understand the market direction and to develop solutions to business challenges. .
Solving sustainability challenges is not only a moral obligation but also a business mandate. As a young company, we realize this responsibility extends far beyond our plant walls, to our customers, to our community and eventually to those who will inherit our society. We apply Sustainability measures throughout the production cycle; we act responsibly to meet the needs of society today, while respecting the needs of future generations. .
The daunting task before us drives many to draw a straight line from the current situation to an inevitably grim future. But by remaining grounded in the sciences – especially in chemistry and engineering – we can share a more optimistic vision. .
Our focus on creating value for society, the environmentand our business is reflected in the breadth of ourcommitment: from investing in our employees, improvinghealthcare in the society to reducing our environmentalfootprints. These all require a long term vision to achievepositive outcomes. We have set environmental goals designed to address the most critical issues to MMTC-PAMP environment sustainability over the long term. .Social responsibility is a strong pillar of our culture, as evident from the fact that we do regular gap analysis to understand the needs of our society and invest in the field of Healthcare, Education and Hygiene. . In these pages, you will see how our commitments, our actions, our people and our innovation engine are delivering value for society, the planet, and the business’ bottom line. .

About the Report
Our sustainability strategy is built upon three key principles: environmental commitment, social responsibility, and economic success. By demonstrating leadership within each of these powerful principles, MMTC-PAMP successfully delivers on its corporate vision.
Our focus on environmental commitment dictates how we do what we do. It guides our design ethic, our manufacturing processes, and our means of distribution. We identify optimal solutions that make us capable of combining efficiency with respect for our surroundings. Thanks to the investments we have made in the form of setting up of an Environment Lab, we are able to monitor all emission and disposals at a frequency far superior to that prescribed in the regulatory framework.
Our focus on social responsibility means engaging in deep, meaningful conversations with our key stakeholders-our customers, our shareholders,
our employees, and our communities-to ensure that we act responsibly and ethically and that we are furthering our leadership position within our sustainability operations.
We have successfully applied these principles to our entire production chain by working together with major international organization. In 2013-14 we became the first and only domestic precious metals refinery to be awarded the LBMA Responsible Gold Certification of compliance with Responsible Gold Guidance, the ultimate evidence of our commitment towards socially responsible practices.
We focus on economic success to create impactful, innovative sustainable solutions not for today but for far into the future. Whilst our operating results are important, the value we are able to produce for our stakeholders as a result of our activities is the key determining factor.
At MMTC-PAMP India sustainability is integrated in who we are and what we do.
Our Vision: “Authenticity is Precious”
Our Mission: “To place India in its deserved position at the heart of the International Bullion Market.”

Gold Sourcing and Responsible Supply Chain
As a Company within the MKS PAMP Group, MMTC-PAMP India stringently follows the Responsible Precious Metals Group Policy, which sets out the Groups' commitment towards responsible supply chain management. The company has been steadfast in adopting the best practices. The MKS PAMP Group provides support to partnership Africa Canada (PAC) in its Gold Supply Chain project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with an aim to progressively divert gold supply chains from the illegal channels towards the legal channels and then to the international markets enabling transparent supply from the miner.
MMTC-PAMP India’s Responsible precious metal policy sets forth our commitment to responsible supply chain ethics. Fighting serious abuses of human rights, avoiding contributing to conflict over its supply chain and complying with high standards of anti-money laundering (AML) and combating terrorist financing (CFT) are central tenets of MMTC-PAMP’s operating procedures.
In the precious metals industry, supply chain is evaluated through the Global LBMA OECD due diligence guidelines. This is a five step risk based due diligence framework, which require companies to undergo an annual external verification audit. MMTC-PAMP has undergone the Responsible Gold audit and LBMA has confirmed our responsible chain practices, making us the first and only precious metals refinery to be so acknowledged.
Our internal structure provides support for these activities by introducing tools that make it possible to trace and identify the potential risks in the supply chain, as we as determine strategies that will enable us to manage the risks identified in the optimum way possible.
Satisfied customers drive our Company`s sustainability momentum. We place a strong emphasis on getting to know our customers, not only by listening to what they want, but by carefully assessing the work values and the standards adopted by them. We take feedback both and negative from the customers as per the procedure under our integrated management system.
The concept of know your customer has been extended to know your transaction, which gives us confidence that we are working with reliable partners in the entire supply and delivery chain, as the relationship we have with them is the result of a careful selection process and regular controls.
Besides internal controls, we undergo regular external surveillance audit by the certification body.

This covers the suppliers of consumables and capital investment; it excludes supply of Dore’ (raw material)
In line with our sustainability strategy, we intend to achieve more with less. To do this, we have introduced an updated, five step Responsible Supply Chain Process. This focuses on two main Challenges, first, to ensure that all of our suppliers comply with our defined sustainability standards. Second, we aim to purposefully work with our strategic suppliers to continuously improve sustainability standards in our value chain – for example, through knowledge transfer and continued education about process optimization, resource efficiency, and environmental and social standards.
We carefully assess technical, economic, organizational and environmental requirements when selecting suppliers. In addition, a supplier’s proximity, quality and cost are also key assessment parameters, Over 70% of our suppliers are located in India.
Purchasing
Our suppliers and business partners conduct themselves in a manner consistent with our sustainability requirements. In selecting and developing our suppliers and other business part-ners, we consider their performance in regard to sustainability.
Preferences are given to suppliers manufacturing goods using recyclable material and are educated on the importance of bringing recyclable material in their production process.

“MMTC-PAMP India recognizes our day-to-day operations impact the environment. We are committed to
reducing this level of impact wherever possible, embracing the principles of sustainable development”
ENVIRONMENT COMMITMENT
Environment Impact Assessment
Our commitment goes well beyond mere compliance with current regulations by implementing an environmental management program aimed at seeking optimal solutions that combine efficiency with respect for our surroundings. In this regard we consistently better regulatory stipulations, both in terms of frequency of tests and results achieved.
MMTC-PAMP India is ISO 14001:2004 certified - the internationally recognized standard for the environmental management of business – and best practice is actively promoted within the company.
Our respect for the environment is translated into a daily commitment that consists of shared rules and objectives to be achieved.
We reduce the impact of our business on our surrounding environment as much as possible by placing dedicated controls. This requires not only monitoring the refuse and waste produced, but also adhering to rules shared by our organization.
We have an internal team dedicated to environmental management that constantly monitors the impact of our company's operations on the environment.
During the previous financial year, on the basis of the environmental management programs established, we made two significant investments:
An in-house environment Laboratory to enhance the testing frequency for better compliance inaugurated in February, 2014
A solar pond for treatment of wastewater
30
Energy Consumption
The process of electrolytic refining is energy consuming, recognizing this we look at all possible methods to reduce the consumption.
In the reporting year the total energy consumption stood at 5282 MWh vs. 4968 MWh for the year 12-13. The slight increase in consumption is due to the running of recovery process in the reporting year.
Processing precious metals demands continuity of electric supply, being located in the most backward industrial area it is hard to get constant supply from grid as there are regular load shedding and fluctuations. For this reason we have to depend on DG sets which contribute to 27 percent of energy consumption.
Gas fuels are used to heat facilities and provide heat during certain chemical processes.
Since electricity is our main source of energy, we are constantly monitoring its use. We have devices that transform and optimize incoming current, resulting in more efficient consumption.
Use of alternate sources of energy is encouraged and we are continuously looking for alternate sources of energy, in the reporting year a total of 19 mw/year electricity was generated through our solar cells.
An annual preventive shutdown is planned to ensure all machines are in perfect condition and to check for any defects that may have occurred due to continuous operations.

Water Consumption
Water plays a very significant role in the chemical process (refining) a key element of our business.
Water is used during manufacturing processes, since it is necessary for chemical and electrolytic refining processes, for washing finished goods, cooling equipment and for ordinary service functions. We take pride in announcing that we are a ZERO discharge unit i.e. the water drawn is used, reused, recycled and finally used for vegetation purposes. Not even a drop of water is released to the outside environment; water is pushed back in the ground with the help of a complex rain water system installed.
Resource Conservation Measures1. Rain water Harvesting is being practiced, the integrated system contains 21 rain water recharge pits (size 2 X 2 X 2 M) filled with graded filter media, all suitably located and spaced out in the peripheral reinforced concrete trench protecting the external boundary wall. Each water recharge pit comprises of a 15 meter deep, 210 mm diameter perforated PVC pipe. Overflow of all these recharge pits flows into 02 Dug wells.
2. Solar Water HeaterFor admin BlockThree Sol hart 302J systems each with two sunray collector panels size 2MX1M and one 300 Liter hot water storage capacity tank
For Kitchen443J system with 03 Sunray collector panels each size 2MX1M with 440 Liter hot water storage capacity tank.
3. 30.4 KWP Solar Power Plant having 168 No`s of 24V/ 180Wp Mono-crystalline Solar Modules with GSM modem and communication software for remote monitoring is installed for generating electricity for alternate street lights along the boundary of the plant. The operation is controlled by solar sensors.
5. Expansion in processing capacity of ETP-STP Plant from 45m3/day to100m3/day to support the rise in production capacity.
6. Maintaining power factor at 0.99 with the use of harmonic filters resulting in less number of electricity fluctuations.
7. Tree Plantation Campaign to increase the green cover.
8. All urinals are equipped with automatic water flusher.
9. All water storage tanks fitted with water level indicator to avoid overflow.
10. All external windows are double glazed to limit the heat load.

Waste Management
Industrial production processes inevitably produce waste materials. Realizing their potential impact on the environment, we take all measures necessary to treat and monitor them.
Waste Generation
Our industrial activity inevitably produces mainly three different types of waste.
1. Hydrated Mud (Salt): A hazardous material under schedule -1 , category 7.4 is a byproduct of the crystallization process. The salt is collected in bags and transported as per the Hazardous waste management rules of the Indian legislation. MMTC-PAMP has a tie up with Gujrat Enviro Protection & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. (GEPIL) for disposal of hazardous waste.
2. Filter press Sludge: Sludge is a byproduct of the manufacturing process. The sludge is collected, dried, stored in containers, which are sent to Germany for recovery of its Copper content.
3. Organic waste: Kitchen and horticulture waste is used as raw material for vermicompost where Worms convert raw material into organic manure. We use vermicompost as organic manure in our kitchen garden, herbal garden, flower beds, fruit plants and lawns. Besides this the STP sludge is used as manure for cultivation.

Each day we do the analyses necessary to ensure that the water conforms to the parameters set by Central pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HPCB). The following water analyses are carried out at our Environment Lab:
· Water at ETP/STP Inlet· Water at ETP/STP outlet· Drinking Water
Water used during manufacturing processes that comes into direct contact with the equipment, metals and chemical substances used for different types of processing is treated using a two stage treatment process in the Ecology department. Using a special treatment, we are able to recover materials dissolved in the water, making it possible to leave mainly salts in the water during the first stage and then with the use of a crystallizer salt is taken out leaving only treated water to ETP plant for further processing and final release for vegetation purpose after following the cycle of use and reuse.
Due to measures installed, we maintain the pH well within our internal limits which are much more stringent then the limits set by CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board). (See the graph)

Emission
Not even one cubic meter of air is discharged in atmosphere without treatment.
Precious metal refining processes result in the emission of certain gaseous substances into the atmosphere, mainly consisting of nitrous oxides. To minimize our environmental impact, we have systems that make it possible to monitor nitrous oxides in the air discharged externally. Weekly monitoring of emissions, sophisticated suction systems and a new Jet bag filter unit installed during the last financial year, are contributing to the achievement of satisfactory results.
There are a total of 09 air scrubbers and 3 jet bag filters (for suction of heavy carbon fumes) operational round the clock.
Using specific analytical instruments, we continually monitor our emission levels and are regularly subject to the audits by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board.
The graph depicts the YOY comparison ofNox Emission at our site.

In March 2014 we set up a laboratory for Environment Testing. The laboratory is equipped to test the
water (ETP-STP inlet and outlet, drinking and RO), air (in-house and ambient), noise and overall weather
monitoring. The results are communicated to key personnel on a daily basis via email.
The following parameters are tested in the environment lab along with the frequency at MMTC-PAMP
(we routinely exceed not only the frequency of testing but also the end results achieved):
MMTC-PAMP India is amongst the very few plants in India to have an in-house Environment Lab.
We will continue to develop new innovative means to cut down the consumption of natural resources and to develop advanced controls for safeguarding the environment.
