What are ISO 26000 standards?

• ISO 26000 provides guidance on how businesses and organizations can operate in a socially responsible way.

• ISO standards for social responsibility are developed so that organizations contribute to global sustainable development by practicing social responsibility to improve their impacts on their workers, their natural environments and their communities.

PwC Global

• PricewaterhouseCoopers (trading as PwC) is a multinational professional services network. It is the world's second largest professional services network, as measured by 2014 revenues, and is one of the Big Four auditors, along with Deloitte, EY and KPMG.

• “Following the Golden Rule – do unto others as you would have them do to you – is both the right and the smart thing to do. And making the effort to consider different viewpoints and treating those views with respect goes a long way toward establishing and keeping trust.”

Results• When ISO 26000 standards were applied to PwC Vorarlberg, the results

were overwhelming. • Although it faces some controversies in regard with sexual discrimination,

tax avoidance, IT fraud cases etcetera, PwC Vorarlberg faces lesser complex issues. (Read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PricewaterhouseCoopers#Controversies )

• Though its setup is comparatively new, they are doing well when it comes to environment sustainability, employee satisfaction, market transparency and other factors.

• The most intriguing issue that employees face is restricted transport of goods from non EU members through customs offices in Vorarlberg. Though it has some exceptions, but employees who are not residents of Vorarlberg face a lot of trouble at times.
