Corporate ProfileFMM Institute was incorporated as a separate company of the

Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) on January 12, 1999. This effort was specifically to expand and focus on its training functions, in line with the objectives of FMM to develop the potentials and enhance the skills of personnel at every level in the industry. This will create a pool of manpower trained in all aspects of industrial skills and management capabilities to face the challenges as the country moves into the status of an industrial nation.

Continuing professional education provides the opportunity for the working personnel to gain the necessary qualifications to upgrade themselves both professionally as well as for self-development. This opportunity is made possible through FMM Institute’s Certificate and Diploma courses in selected areas of industrial and management skills. FMM Institute obtained its Institution of Private Higher Education (IPTS) status from the Ministry of Education on July 19, 2001 to offer Diploma and other higher level courses. Efforts are ongoing to offer Degree and Masters level courses specially designed to meet the Training Needs of the Manufacturers.

A wide range of training courses are also offered on an in-house basis. These include all the public courses as well as those that need to be specially customised to meet the training needs of specific industries. Course outlines and objectives are discussed with the companies and trainers will be selected to develop the courses accordingly. All in-house courses are packaged to be cost effective for companies with no compromise on the quality of the course and the desired result. FMM Institute is a registered Training Provider with Pembangunan Sumber Manusia berhad (PSMB).

FMM Institute, Perak is housed at Ipoh, Perak. It has 4 modern training rooms with a total seating capacity of 120 participants and one FMM Hall that can accommodate a total of 80 participants.

MARKETING INNOVATION IN GENERATING SALESFEES | FMM MEMBER – RM583 | NON-MEMBER – RM689

Globalisation is imminent. Current global downturn limits the market size and invites new competitors. Marketing industrial products in Malaysia as well as regionally will therefore become more complex and challenging. Many Malaysians manufacturers and suppliers of industrial products are still unaware of their threats and opportunities. Failure of companies to understand and apply effective marketing innovations will eventually lead to declining sales and profitability. In order to compete, companies need to leap out of status quo and start to equip themselves with comprehensive knowledge of innovation in marketing techniques and learn to create sustainable competitive advantage.

As industrialization becomes more rapid, so has the number of accidents at the working places. Often, these accidents happen due to ignorance or the lack of knowledge in preventing them. Prevention is better than cure, and prevention of accidents can best be achieved when there is an urge to do so that stems from the hearts of the employees. The preventive measures mentioned here apply to Ergonomics, Chemical Safety, Hearing Conservation and Emergency Planning aspects at the workplace.

PROCESS ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUESFEES | FMM MEMBER – RM530 | NON-MEMBER – RM636

TQM is always a good model for continuous improvement in processes (manufacturing and transactional). For this continuous improvement to work, PDCA cycle had acted as the main and best tool. However, beginning of 1990, DMAIC, initiated by Motorola, came strongly overshadowing TQM - PDCA. Many companies used to distinguish themselves either deploying DMAIC or deploying PDCA to tackle their process problems. In recent years TQM made a strong come back. A more matured TQM managed many best practices (Lean, Six Sigma, Zero Defect) under TQM flagship. This programme explains how the new TQM enhances process quality performance. DMAIC and PDCA have both become the most popular methodologies targeting different problem categories.

OPTIMIZING PROCESS PERFORMANCE USING STATISTICAL VALIDATIONFEES | FMM MEMBER – RM530 | NON-MEMBER – RM636

Optimizing a process means we set the process parameters so that it gives the maximum output that we want the process to give. This could mean letting the process to give Y of the highest value, the lowest value, or simply a level that satisfies customer’s requirement (optimum does not always means the maximum or minimum level). This course assumes the XY model has been reduced statistically. What will be done here is to find the relationship between the Y and its reduced number of X factors. Once the relationship has been discovered, the next task is to optimize it (setting all the X parameters at correct level simultaneously). This would give optimum Y. Once this is done the other major thing to do in this course is to confirm if the Y meets targeted level. This is done statistically rather than how we feel about the optimization outcomes. Various statistical tests are available depending of the types of data of the Y.
