FUNDAMENTALS OF
COACHING CHILDEN AND
JOLF WORKSHOP
PGA Professionals Jonathan Shipestone
and Neil Plimmer delivered a workshop on
the JOLF junior coaching programme and
the fundamentals of coaching children.
The seminar was held at Woodbury Park
Golf Club and seventeen Professionals and
volunteers attending on the day.
The JOLF coaching programme’s aim is to
deliver a brilliant and appropriate
experience for each child every time.
Neil and Jonathan delivered a junior
coaching session to sixteen pupils from a
local primary school on the driving range.
It was very interesting watching their
approach of a games based session rather
than the traditional technique based
coaching sessions.
There was a lot of discussion that followed
the coaching session on what the best way
to teach children is and everyone who
attended took a few different ideas on
junior coaching from the workshop.

O’HANLON MAKING A
POINT AT POLZEATH
Richard O’Hanlon has been busy
developing new links since becoming the
PGA Professional at the Point at Polzeath
Golf Club in September.
Richard has been to ten primary schools in
the local area and four of the schools have
signed up for after school tri-golf coaching.
There is weekly junior coaching on a
Saturday morning and there are also a
number of junior day camps available for
the juniors during the school holidays.
Richard has also had success with
women’s and men's day clinics. The clinics
involve five hours of coaching that covers
all aspects of the game.
All the details of the different coaching
packages Richard offers are on his website
- www.richardohanlon.com.
Bolitho School sets up
Junior Academy
GEMS Bolitho School in Penzance
has set up a School Golf Academy,
to give students the opportunity of
getting active and into sport.
Twenty six pupils have been
attending weekly coaching at
Hayle Golf throughout November
with Professional Wayne Graham.
Bolitho School has also linked up
with West Cornwall Golf Club, so
the juniors will be able to gain
access to the golf course and junior
competitions next summer.
The Golf Academy is open to
everyone at the school, no matter
what age or standard the students
are, and the school will be offering
opportunities for both performance
and recreational players.
Golf will be on the curriculum
throughout the year at Hayle Golf
and West Cornwall Golf Club.
Pupils will be provided with a
structured coaching programme, so
that each student can reach their
full potential in golf.
NIGHT GOLF AT RADNOR
Radnor Golf Club hosted Night Golf for
the first time this winter on Friday 16th
November. Mike Kent organised the event
and over fifty participants played in a
shotgun 9 hole texas scramble competition.
Night Golf attracted a range of different
players from single figure handicappers to
nine complete beginners, who had never
played on a golf course before.
Night golf could be a fantastic way to get
more people into golf during the winter and
the Partnership will be holding some Night
Golf events all over the county in 2013!
