35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and greatcommandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and theprophets.

    THE GREAT COMMANDMENT

o Love God:(V. 37-38)o God first loved us. He sent His only Son to die for us; providing a

means for us to have an eternal relationship with Him.

o We are to love God with all our heart, mind, and strength. Our actionsshow God our love. We seek to honor Him in our praise, study,

    worship, and praise.

o No man can serve two masters. We are devoted to the Lord.o Love Others: (v. 39)

o Because God loved us, we should also love one another.o You cant love God and hate your brother.o What we do for our neighbors is what we do for Christ.o We are called to love everyone, even those who despise us.o Invest in people.

Everyone will live for eternity in heaven or hell. People respond to the love of Christ working in us.

o All men will know we are Christs disciples by our love.o Love brings unity. It is the bond of perfection.

o Serve as Christ Served Us.o Christ came to serve, not be served.o We glorify God by using what He has given us to serve others.o It is more blessed to give than to receive.o If we want to be great, we must become servants. Let us not be self-

    serving, but all about Christ.
