Paul responds to reports he has received of division, immorality, idolatry, and theological confusion in this local church by showing how the Gospel answers these issues. In this series we will look at how the Gospel informs the way we view divisions, sexuality, liberties, and love in today’s Church. READ Every Monday through Friday we will read a few chapters from 1 Corinthians. Saturday’s reading will be the passage that will be preached on Sunday. Sunday's reading is a short passage for us to memorize and also a day to catch up. ENGAGE - S.O.A.P (S) Scripture - Begin by prayerfully, carefully, and slowly reading the passage of Scripture. (O) Observe - Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth given in the text. We are not concerned with what this text “means to us,” but rather we seek to understand what the text “means to the Holy Spirit.” (A) Application - Ask, “What do I need to do to obey God’s Word today? (P) Pray - Prayer is continuing the conversation God has started in His Word. Take the truths you have discovered and pray them back to God. July 3 1 Corinthians 1:10: I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. July 10 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. July 17 1 Corinthians 15:3-4: For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. July 24 1 Corinthians 10:23-24: “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. July 31 1 Corinthians 13:1-3: If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
