Points to Ponder

What are we doing to bring travellers/tourists back to India for revisits.

There is no profile management any place which will allow to highly targeted campaigns to bring back lot of visitors back to Tourist spots

What are we doing to create adjoining sales/upsales to an existing Tourist.

We can create packages based on person's interest and the places they visit to link up more sites and spots for travel

What instruments are we offering to help a tourist to buy any local merchandize based on any tourist spot after they have completed their travel. What if they plan to buy few more units of something that already bought and they are back in their native place of stay/work. Creating an integrated portal linking with the Merchandize will assist

How many times have we seen advertisement to travel to India on sites like CNN, Discovery Channel, History Channel or BBC. We can see Pataya Island, Fiji and other places EXCEPT India. Imagine the kind of revenue it will generate out of this.

Make better Incredible India site: Presently the site is a beautiful album of different tourist spots of India, however, its missing some key elements to link business to it. End of day any department success is based on the net growth of its business and promotion of employment in that sector

Allowing trips to packaged, managed and delivered through Tourism site rather than going to 100 other sites to make the reservations.

How many times have you seen a tourist has arranged and organized their stay using Govt of India site.

We can create a major paradigm shift and make a facelift to India. Tourism is all about making a friendly place to make all your plans, trip, travel, stay, food and merchandize.

Any place in India is known for its festival, tourist spots. Food, sweets and merchandize. Lets create a total experience

Building People Value

Building people profile for constant interaction with them and reinviting them via special promotions, campaigns and festivities

Building category based plans eg martial arts of India, Massages of India

Multi country tour linked with culture: eg Ramayan and visit to India and Sri Lanka

Technology

The Solution will be implemented on the concept that the user base on the site can grow from 100users to Millions of users logging into the website at the same time during special occassions. Everything is planned to be delivered using Cloud computing. In case we need to do a site install, it can be organized as well.

Will be building the application in such a way that the revenue recognition happens significantly through internet marketing and ads placement on the site.

Why Now?

Because of Global economy, lot of people are holding off their Vacation plans to

Western World. Offering packages based tours in India now will mean more business than ever.

Project Costing…

Considering the overall plan mentioned in this presentation, based on the high-level plan of implementation we figured, it will cost Rs 3.5 to 4.0 crores per State to get the Portal in place. ThisInitiative will include the following:

Software Design, Development and ArchitectureHardware procurement and maintenanceUpdate and Synchronization with Centralized databaseWorking with Writers, Photographers, Tourist spots and All India Tourism approved companiesWorking with Airlines and Railways for Online ticketing systemWorking with the Artisans to build the initial database for selling their merchandizeIdentifying kiosk based centers for Artisans to update their product/merchandize informationEstablishing serious Online presence through Internet. Defining optimized budgets for National and International media presenceOngoing Training

ROI:Presently, we are at 62lakhs International Tourists and its growing at 12-14% rate. Through the i-Tourism initiative we expect to take International Tourism numbers to 1crore mark within two years.This itself will give us an ROI within 12-15months post deployment.

Example: West Bengal Toursim: Status!

In google on West Bengal tourism, I get wbtourism.com as the official site and westbengaltourism.gov.in

www.wbtourism.com the official website is showing "The website is unavailable"

Westbangaltourism.gov.in has the page appearing and it took me more than 45min to render the page on a broadband speed. I also checked the site in India on Friday evening and it took more than an hr to load the initial page.

- The internal pages after the initial page loads in 90secs to 3 mins timeframe.

- The booking online page is still better in rendering than most of the content pages

- The complete site has formating issues on different internet browsers

From Incredible India site www.incredibleindia.org, you have to click on Tourism sites on the right hand site and it will give the links to different states (www.incredibleindia.org/layout/state_tourism.html) and when you click on West Bengal the page says "This website is unavailable"

Being a Bengali and an Indian, I wanted to showcase Kolkata and WestBengal as Toursim destination rather than a

"City of Joy".

In terms of what you presently have in the system and which will require serious hand-holding are:-

Thorough understanding of how to make the site web friendly with presentation and proper content.

There is no SEO (search engine optimization) work done on the website which will help promote Tourism through Internet.

Bring Artisans and their Art forms on the website and make this as an outlet for selling their merchandise and grow the handicraft industry.

Online booking for trips via roadways, airways and trains.

Option for creating adhoc trips and selecting preplanned trips

There is no revenue generation component on the website through advertisements and promotions. The only one site which I was able to navigate to some extent (westbengaltourism.gov.in) has some booking component.

No proper conduits to Incredible India site and other adjoining state tourism sites which can be packaged together.

The whole look and feel experience.
