According to the experts there are some essential elements to making it into the mining industry:

Persistence. Keep your eyes on the recruitment websites constantly. You need to be signed up to the websites of big mining companies and contractors. Talk to others in the industry to find out how they got in.

Skills. Get a few Operator type tickets or skills. There are plenty of organisations offering training, licences and tickets, some even have simulators where you can learn without being on-site.

Health. Youve got to be drug free, healthy and ready to go.

Initiative. Be able to show that you are in it for the long haul and not looking for what the industry can do for you. Companies are happy to invest in employees who prove they want a career and not just the dollars.

Set up by Mackay based mining services company Mastermyne, Myne Start is an award-winning facility offering specialised underground training in situations that have been set up to replicate underground working conditions.

Known as cleanskins, inexperienced underground miners need to have, and be able to demonstrate, a certain level of knowledge before they can be considered for a position at a mine site.

In short: this is not your average training program. You cant book in to undertake the Myne Start training like you would with a regular training organisation. Before being offered a place in the training course you must complete a fairly intense recruitment process. It is important to be aware that the Myne Start training programs are a pathway into the mining industry and not just a training program.

Having said that, Myne Start could be the perfect way for you to start a new career in the mining industry. There are a variety of training programs and pathways on offer. What brought you to Australia?

I worked on cruise ships from age 18, sailing to places like the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe, Mexico and Alaska. Everyone I met and loved seemed to be Australian! So after three years, I decided to come here and see it for myself and my Aussie adventures began.

Are you officially an Aussie?

I am a proud permanent resident thanks to the support and sponsorship of my employer, Daydream Island Spa. Without them I would not be here living my dream!

How long have you lived in Airlie Beach?

Four years - every day is new and exciting.

What do you love most about living in Australia?

Everything about this place is pure magic. Ive explored everywhere from the cities to the outback, but Airlie Beach is my home. I love living so close to the ocean and being able to walk down the street and see heaps of familiar faces.

What do you do for a living?

I am a Beauty Therapist at the Daydream Island Spa and I love it. I was nominated for Therapist of the Year in the Pevonia Botanica (the products used at Daydream Island Spa) awards this year so that was a great honour.

Are you single?

Yep and Ive never been happier. I describe myself as a fiery, independent young woman with big ambitions, so a guy has got to work hard to keep up with me!

How long have you been modelling?

Not long but Im up and coming but its definitely the right career path for me!

What have you got planned for Australia Day 2012?

I never make plans but if its anything like last year, which was epic, Ill be showing my sisters wholl be visiting from England, how we do it in Airlie.

Whats the one thing youve gotta have at a BBQ?
