Introducing your CWD2601Your CWD2601 makes use of the latest technologies in cordlesstelephone design. It includes a wide range of easy to use featuresand functions, including a name and number phonebook and aCaller ID facility with a number Call Log.

Caller ID is a facility available from some telephone networkservice providers, allowing the user to identify who is callingwithout even having to pick up the phone. Your CWD2601 has thenecessary software to utilise the Caller ID facility. If you wish touse Caller ID you will need to subscribe to the service from yournetwork provider.

Please read this user guide carefully before using your CWD2601for the first time.

Safety information• Only use the mains power adaptor supplied. Using another

adaptor could damage your CWD2601 and invalidate your warranty.

• To obtain a replacement power supply, please call the Helpline on 0870 241 3201 (9.00am-5.00pm, Mon to Fri).

• The radio signals used by this phone system may interfere with some hearing aids and cause a humming sound to be heard.

• This product should not be used near emergency intensive care medical equipment.

• This product should not be used by people fitted with a pacemaker.

• Do not use your CWD2601 in the open air during thunderstorms. We recommend that you unplug your CWD2601 from the mains power and telephone socket during storms.

• Your CWD2601 base is intended for indoor use only.

• Do not use the handset in places where there are explosive hazards.

• Do not expose your CWD2601 or batteries to fire or water.

• Dispose of batteries safely. Do not puncture or burn them. They contain toxic materials that could cause injury.

Positioning your CWD2601Place your CWD2601 base and charger close enough to thetelephone and mains power sockets so that the cables will reach.

Make sure that you position your CWD2601 at least 1 metre awayfrom other electrical appliances (including other telephones) toavoid interference. Avoid bathrooms and other humid areas.

Installing the handset batteries

On each handset Insert the batteries as shown below.

Connecting the mains power supply to your CWD2600 base

Plug the mains power adaptor lead into the socket on the base unitmarked with the following symbol:

Plug the mains power adaptor into a standard 230V a.c. wall socketand switch on. You will hear a confirmation tone.

Connecting the mains power supply to the CWD265 chargerPlug the mains power adaptor wired to the charger unit into themains power wall socket and switch the power on.

Charging the handsetsOnce you have installed the batteries in the handset, each displaywill show the phone model number, the individual handsetnumber, the battery status and signal strength symbols.

! Caution! Only use the mains power adaptor supplied. Using other power adaptors could damage your phone and invalidate your warranty

" Note: Wait until the batteries are fully chargedbefore using the phones. Before initial operationyou should charge the batteries for at least14 hours.

You will need to fully charge the handsets before use. Place onehandset in the Base unit and the other in the charger unit.

When the handset sits in the base, the handset battery is beingcharged. The battery charging indicator (red) on the base unitlights up and stays lit while the batteries are being charged.

When the handset is placed in the charger, the handset beeps andthe indicator on the front of the charger illuminates while thebattery is being charged.

" Note: Each handset can be charged in either thebase unit or the charger unit.

" Note: We recommend that when the handset isnot in use it is placed back on the base to ensurethat it is always fully charged.

The belt clipThe belt clip is supplied fitted to the handset and allows thehandset to be clipped easily onto your belt, waistband or shirtpocket thereby allowing you to conveniently carry the handsetaround with you.

Battery status symbolWhen the battery is fully charged, the status symbol displayed onthe handset LCD screen should show as fully charged (see below).As the battery is used the status symbol will change accordingly:

Connecting a telephone line to the base unit

Connect the telephone line cord into the telephone socket on therear of the base unit. This connector is marked:

Plug the other end into a standard telephone line wall socket.Route the cable through the integral clips on the rear of the baseunit.

As soon as the handset is charged you will be able to make andreceive phone calls, receive Caller ID call list entries, and storenumbers in the phonebook.

Using your CWD2601

Making / ending callsLift the handset off the base, press Talk and wait to hear the dialling tone.

The LCD displays the symbol and the handset LED lights up. The In Use LED on the base unit also lights up

Use the Numerical keys to enter the phone number.

The display shows the digits as you enter them.

If more than 16 digits are entered, the symbol is displayed on the screen to indicate the number is longer than 16-digits and only the last 16-digits have been displayed.

After a short time the call timer displays the current duration of the call.

To End a call

Press Talk or replace the handset on the base unit.

The duration of the call remains on the display for about5 seconds after the call ends.

Pre-dialling

You can enter a telephone number and verify it on thedisplay before you place the call.

Use the Numerical keys to enter the phone number.

The display shows the digits as you enter them.

If more than 16 digits are entered, the symbol is displayed on the screen to indicate the number is longer than 16- digits and only the last 16-digits are displayed.

Press Talk to dial the number entered.

To end the call press Talk again or replace the handset on the base unit.

Receiving external callsWhen receiving an external call, the handset and the baseunit will ring, provided that the ringers are set to on. TheEXT symbol blinks on the LCD display. The LED on thehandset and the In Use LED on the base unit both blink.

If you have subscribed to a Caller ID service, the

symbol blinks in the display. The caller’s number (ifavailable) is also displayed. The date and time of the call isdisplayed when OK is pressed.

When the handset sits in the base unit and the Autoanswering feature is turned on:

Lift the handset to answer the call. (Refer to Auto answering, page 57).

When the handset sits in the base unit and the Auto answering feature is NOT turned on:

Lift the handset and press Talk to connect the call.

(Refer to section Auto-Answering for details, page 57).

When the handset is not in the base unit:

Press Talk to connect the call.

Re-diallingThe last 10-dialled external numbers are stored for re-dialling (in the re-dial list) and if required any of these canbe transferred to your Phonebook, see page 19. The numbercan consist of up to 18-digits.

The user can select any number on the re-dial list to redialin Pre-Dialling mode. However, only the most recentlydialled number can be used for redial in the traditionaldialling mode.

To redial the last number called

Press Talk and wait for dialling tone.

Press Redial. The last number dialled is displayed and dialled out automatically.

To end the call press Talk again or replace the handset on the base unit.

To redial any of the last 10 numbers called

Press Redial. The last number dialled is displayed.

Press Scroll to scroll through the last 10 dialled numbers.

Press Talk

The TALK symbol appears on the display.

The phone connects to the line and dials the number displayed on the screen.

The EXT symbol appears on the display.

To end the call press Talk again or replace the handset on the base unit.

" Note: The display shows EMPTY if there is nonumber in the redial list.

Save a Number in the Re-dial list to the Phonebook

Press OK. The last number dialled is displayed.

Press Scroll to scroll through the last 10 dialled numbers until the number you wish to save is displayed.

Press Menu.

The display shows SAVE ENTRY.

The display shows NAME?

Use the Numeric keys and the CANCEL key to enter the name. If a name is not entered, the entry is identified by a set of brackets, ( ).

Press OK to confirm. The redial number is displayed.

Edit the number (if required) by using the Numeric keys and Cancel.

Press OK to confirm the entry and exit to SAVE ENTRY.

Press Cancel to return to the redial list.

Delete a Number in the Re-dial list

Press OK.

The last number dialled is displayed.

Press Menu on a selected number. SAVE ENTRY is displayed.

Use Scroll to scroll until the display reads DELETE.

Press OK. The display reads DELETE?

Press OK. The selected number is deleted and the display returns to the redial list.

Repeat the above three steps to delete another dialled number as required.

Press Cancel to exit the redial list.

Adjusting the ringer volumeThe volume of the handset ringing tone can be set to one offive preset levels or turned off.

Press Menu.

Use Scroll to scroll through the menu until SOUNDS is displayed.

The LCD displays VOLUME.

Use Volume up/down to select the volume level. The ringer melody is heard in the handset speaker and a graphical representation of the volume level (5 bars to 1 bar for max to min volume respectively, and VOL OFF.

Press OK to confirm the selection and exit to VOLUME.

If the ringer volume is set to VOL OFF, the RINGER OFF symbol appears on the LCD display.

To turn the handset ringer off while the phone is ringing, or in standby, press and hold Ringer off.

To turn the handset ringer on while the phone is ringing or in standby press and hold Ringer off.

Adjusting the handset earpiece/speaker volumeYou can adjust the volume level of the earpiece and speakerin the handset to one of three preset levels by selecting the

graphical representation of the volume level, 3 bars to 1bar (max to min respectively) as required during a call.

During a call:

Press Volume up to increase the volume level.

Press Volume down to decrease the volume level.

The current volume level is displayed on the LCD in graphical form.

Handsfree operationThe handset can be used in two-handsfree modes

• By switching the internal earpiece to a speaker in the handset.

• When connected to a headset which transfers the voice to a remote microphone and earpiece.

During a call

To switch to handsfree operation during a call, press the Speakerphone key.

You can now hold your conversation ‘handsfree’ without having to hold the handset to your ear.

Press Speakerphone again to turn end ‘handsfree’. You now need to hold the handset to your ear.

To end the call press Talk, or replace the handset in the base:

Press Talk.

Press Speakerphone.

When you hear the dial tone, dial the number you require. The number appears on the LCD screen and you hear it being dialled.

To end the call press Talk, or replace the handset in the base.

Or, without lifting the handset off the base:

Press Talk.

Press Speakerphone.

When you hear the dial tone, dial the number you require. The number appears in the display and you hear it being dialled.

To end the call, press Talk.

Using the headset Connect the headset jack to the headset connector on the side of the handset.

The handset earpiece and microphone are turned off and the voice signals diverted to the headset.

Mute (Privacy)During a call you can mute your voice so that you canspeak privately to a third party without the caller beingable to hear you. You will still be able to hear your caller.

During a call, press Mute.

The symbol is displayed on the LCD. Your caller cannot hear you.

Press Mute again to talk to your caller again.

The symbol disappears from the display.

Find handsetIf you misplace your handset press the FIND HANDSETbutton on the base unit to relocate it. The handset rings for30 seconds. The INT symbol and the prompt BS PAGINGblink on and off on the display. Press any key on thehandset to stop the paging tone sounding.

Alert tonesYou can choose to turn on or off the following tonesaccording to your preferences.

Key beep:

This alert sounds a tone each time a key is pressed. For longpresses, there will be two tones: one upon key depressionand the other upon a long press being activated.

Confirmation tone:

This alert sounds a tone when a setting or a choice isconfirmed.

Charging:

This alert sounds two short duration tones when thehandset is returned to the base unit cradle for charging.

Press Menu.

! Caution! If you press and hold the FIND HANDSET button on the base for more than 4 seconds, the phone enters registration mode (see Registering a new handset, page 58).

Using the phonebook

Storing an entry in the phonebook

Press Phonebook during pre-dial or standby.

The LCD displays ADD ENTRY.

Press OK.

The LCD displays NAME?

Use the alphanumeric keypad to enter the name (maximum of 10 characters) of the person whose telephone number it is that you wish to enter. If no name is entered, the name will be displayed as ( ) in the phonebook.

Using the handset keypad to enter characters:

You can enter characters by pressing the key withthe required character on a number of timesaccording to its position in the string of characterson the key legend. For example, for 'C', press '2'three times, for 'S' press '7' four times, for '5', press'5' once.

If you wish to enter successive characters whichare on the same key, you must wait for the cursorto move to the next location on the screen beforeentering the next character.

" Note: You can store 50 phone records in thehandset with up to 10-characters for the name,and up to 18-digits for number.

To enter a space, press the ‘1’ key once. To enter 1,press this key twice.

You can include other non-alphanumericcharacters in names in phonebook entries by theuse of the * key. The character is displayed andcycles through the following sequence for eachpress of the * key.

At the required position as the name is entered,press the * key the appropriate number of times toenter the special character required. These areshown below in parenthesis:

Reviewing the phonebook

Using the Scroll key

Press Phonebook during pre-dial or standby.

The LCD displays ADD ENTRY.

Use Scroll to scroll through the entries.

Press OK when the LCD displays the name of a selected entry to display the number associated with the selected name.

If the number consists of more than 16-digits, then the symbol is turned on and the first 16 digits of the number are displayed.

Press OK to display the remaining digits.

Press OK again to display the name of the entry.

Press Cancel to exit to standby.

Searching using the alphanumeric keys

You can also use the alphanumeric keys to view the entries. When a key between 2 and 9 is pressed, the first entry of the name that starts with the first character of the key is displayed. Pressing the same key again displays the first entry of the name that starts with the next character on the key and so on.

For example, press the "2" key once, to jump to the first entry in the list that starts with "A". Press "2" again to jump to the first entry in the list that begins with "B".

Editing an entryYou can amend the name and number of any entry storedin your phonebook:

VIP ringer melody

You can assign a distinctive ringing tone to incoming callsfrom specific callers. When the Caller ID of an incoming callmatches a number in a phonebook record in the handset,the phonebook name is displayed and the VIP melodydefined for that record is played as the handset ringingmelody - provided the VIP melody is set to on.

Using the Answering Machine

Answering machine The Answering Machine mode is entered by pressing theAnswering Machine key on the handset. For brevity, thiskey is referred to as AM in the following procedures.

In answering machine mode the LCD screen displaysinformation according to the its settings:

• If the answering machine is off, the LCD displays AM OFF.

• If the answering machine is on, and the Answer Record mode is selected, the display shows ANS RECORD.

• If the answering machine is on, and the Answer Only mode is selected, the display shows ANS ONLY.

" Note: When the phone is in answering machinemode, reference to the keys on the handset ismade using the legend printed on the facia of thehandset, immediately below the key, except inthe instance of the Answering Machine keywhere it is printed on the keycap.

" Note: The Answering machine is factory set to‘ON’.

Selecting the outgoing message (OGM) your callers will hearThe answering machine operates in two different modes,‘Answer and Record’ or ‘Answer Only’. Each mode comeswith a pre-set outgoing message (OGM) that is played toyour callers. If you prefer, you can record your own OGMfor each mode, see page 26.

• When the answering machine is in the Answer and Record mode (ANS RECORD), the answering machine invites the caller to leave a message after the outgoing message (OGM1)is played: “Hello. Your call cannot be taken at the moment, so please leave your message and date and time of your call, after the tone”.

• When the answering machine is in the Answer Only mode (ANS ONLY), the answering machine drops the call as soon as "outgoing message #2" (OGM2) has finished playing:

“Hello. Your call cannot be taken at the moment, and you cannot leave your message. Please call later”.

When the memory of the answering machine is full, theanswering mode will automatically switch to ANS ONLYmode from ANS RECORD mode.

Recording your own OGMs Press AM to enter into answering machine mode.

If the answering machine is on, the screen displays ANS RECORD or ANS ONLY.

If the answering machine is off, the screen displays AM OFF.

If the answering machine is in ANS RECORD mode, OGM1 is recorded.

If the answering machine is in ANS ONLY mode, OGM2 will be recorded.

Press OGM Rec (key 9) . The screen displays REC OGM1 or REC OGM2 depending on the set answering mode.

Wait for a beep tone. This indicates the beginning of the recording session. Record your OGM by talking at a normal level into the handset microphone. Press Stop (key 5) to end the recording session.

The recorded OGM is played back after the recording. During the OGM play back, the screen displays PLAY OGM1 or PLAY OGM2 depending on the answering mode set.

If you do not stop the recording within 40 seconds, the recording is stopped automatically at this time and a two-beep tone is sounded in the earpiece. The recorded OGM is played back.

Changing the answering mode To change the answer mode from standby mode carry outthe following:

Press AM to enter the answering machine mode.

Press the Mode key to toggle between the two available modes: the LCD display ANS RECORD and ANS ONLY. The displayed mode is the set mode.

If the answering machine is on the display continues to display the set mode.

If the answering machine is off, the set mode (ANS RECORD or ANS ONLY) is displayed for 2 seconds and then changes to AM OFF.

Press Stop (key 5) to halt the playback. The answering machine stops automatically at the end of the OGM. The screen displays STOP. A two-beep tone is emitted when the playback stops automatically.

To delete a customised OGM This procedure assumes that OGMs have been customisedfor each answer mode.

Press AM to enter into answering machine mode.

If the answering machine is on, the screen displays ANS RECORD or ANS ONLY.

If the answer machine is Off the screen displays AM OFF.

Press OGM Play (key 5).

If the answering machine is in ANS RECORD mode, OGM1 is played and the screen displays PLAY OGM1.

The OGM playback ceases and a confirmation tone is heard. The customised OGM is deleted and the default OGM is restored.

Setting the ring delay The number of rings to be played before the answeringmachine answers the incoming call can be specified. Thereare seven choices: ECONOMY, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 rings.

When ECONOMY is selected, the answerphone answersafter 2 rings if there are new messages or new memo, andafter 4 rings if there are no new messages or new memo.This means that you can hang-up after 2 rings knowing youhave no new messages, thereby saving the cost of the call.

When the number specified is between two and seven, theanswering machine answers the call after the selectednumber of rings.

To set the ring delay

Press Menu to enter the menu mode.

Use Scroll to scroll through the menu until the LCD displays ANSWER MAC. Press OK.

Listening to your messagesThe phone can store a maximum of 25 new messages. Lesscan be stored if a memo has been recorded. You can specifythe maximum duration of the incoming message and memoas described under Message length on page 30). Themaximum total record time is 9 minutes.

During standby when there is at least one message in theanswering machine, the LCD displays NN-XX MESSAGES onthe handset where NN is the number of new messagesreceived and XX is the number of old messages. Forexample, if the display shows “01-02 MESSAGES” then thereis one new message and two old messages stored.

When the maximum number of messages is recorded or theallocated memory is full, the display will show NN-XX MEMFULL. For example, the prompt could be 05-20 MEM FULL.

When there is a message in the answering machine that has

not yet been listened to, the orange indicator on the baseunit blinks and the handset LED also blinks during on-hook.The Message Waiting alert tone sounds periodically in thehandset speaker during standby. The latter assumes thatthe Alert tone is set to on (refer to Alert tone, page 30 fordetails).

Recording messages

A new message is recorded only if the answering machineis in ANS RECORD mode.

When the answering machine answers the call, OGM1 isplayed. The caller can record the message in the answeringmachine after a short beep that indicates the recordingphase has begun.

When the maximum recording duration for the newmessage is reached, or the memory is full, and the callerdoesn't hang up, a two-beep tone is sent to the user and therecording stops. The answering machine then releases theline.

If there is CID information from the call, the date and timeof the new message is recorded.

Playing your messages

New messages are played first starting from the oldest newmessage until all the new messages are played. When thereare no new messages, the old messages are played startingfrom the oldest message until all messages are played. Anew message is regarded as old after it has been playedback.

Press AM to enter the answering machine mode.

Press Play (key 2) to begin playing the messages. Press Stop (key 5) at any time to stop playing the message. The LCD displays STOP.

A short beep is sounded between playing two messages. When all messages are played, a two-beep tone is produced in the earpiece/speaker.

During message playback the following operations can becarried out.

After the first 5 seconds of the message, press RWD (key 1), or

Press Play (key 2) to replay the current message.

Within the first 5 seconds of the message, press Play (key 1) to play the message older than the current one unless the current one is the oldest. Otherwise, the current message is replayed.

Remote accessThe remote access feature allows you to call youranswering machine from another phone. To access thisfeature requires a PIN to be entered at the other phone.

The factory set remote access PIN is 000. For added securityyou may wish to change this code.

Setting up a remote access code

A 3-digit remote access code can be used via a touch-tonetelephone to access the answering machine from a remotelocation. To store the code in the handset:

Call screening Incoming calls can be screened and sent directly to theanswering machine. There are four options for screening,OFF, ALL, EXEMPT and SCREEN.

OFF: The screening is turned off. The answering machineanswers all calls after the number of rings specified by thering delay setting when the answering machine is ON, orafter sixteen rings when the answering machine is OFF.

ALL: The answering machine answers all incoming calls,without ringing the handset or base. The caller can use theSOS code to breakthrough the screening and cause the baseunit to ring.

Remote access - delete all messages

Shortcuts for most remote access functions are the same asthose accessed in answering machine mode except DeleteAll Messages.

To delete all messages remotely:

Remote Access Responses

Most tones and alerts for remote access operations are thesame as those in the answering machine mode except:

Memo You can record a memo on the answering machine. Thememo is not included when the incoming messages areplayed.

If there is a memo being recorded in the answeringmachine, the screen on all handsets registered to the samebase unit display NEW MEMO during standby.

To record a memo

Press AM to enter answering machine mode.

Press Memo Rec (key 7) The LCD displays REC MEMO. Wait for a beep that indicates the beginning of recording session.

Record your memo by talking at a normal level into the handset microphone.

Press 5 to end the recording session. The recorded memo is played back after the recording. During play back, the LCD displays PLAY MEMO.

If you do not stop the recording within the time allowed, the recording is stopped automatically after this time and

Caller ID and Calls list

Caller ID

When an external call is received the caller information(CID) of the calling number is displayed on the LCD screen,as shown in Figure 1, and stored in the Calls list. At this timethe NEW CID symbol is displayed on the LCD screen. Thissymbol remains if the call is unanswered and until the Callslist is reviewed (page 40). While the call is ringing, the EXTsymbol is also displayed (not shown in Figures 1 and 2).

Additionally one of the following is displayed on thedisplay depending on the information received:

• The name of the entry in your phonebook if the number supplied by the CID service matches exactly with the number in the phonebook as is shown in Figure 2 above.

" Note: For the Caller ID to function, you mustsubscribe to the Caller ID service offered by yourtelephone service provider. This section will notbe applicable to your phone if you do notsubscribe to this service. Consult your telephoneservice provider for details about the service.

Calls listThe Calls list stores the name and numbers of the last 20unanswered and answered incoming calls.

Review the calls listTo review the Calls list carry out the following:

When a message waiting OFF indication is received fromthe network service provider, the MESSAGE WAITINGsymbol on all handsets currently connected is turned off.The LED on all handsets currently connected is turned off.

You can also press and hold Cancel during standby to turnoff the MESSAGE WAITING symbol . Once a handsetdismisses this symbol, all other handsets that are currentlyconnected to the same base unit also turn off this symbol.

Prefix matchingYou can program the phone to automatically add a prefixto the number dialled if the leading digits of the numbermatch the ones you have set in the prefix rules. You canstore the prefix and starting digits.

If the number to be dialled begins with the digits entered inthe prefix rules, the associated prefix is inserted in front ofthe number as the number is dialled out. For example, if theprefix rule is: add prefix 123 for numbers to be dialled thatbegin with 456. When 4567890 is to dialled out, the actualnumber dialled is 1234567890.

Operator services

A total of seven operator services can be stored in thehandset. Each can have a name comprising up to 10characters and a number of up to 18-digits.

The operator services operate like the phonebook exceptthat the operator services can also be accessed during off-hook. Typical uses for this function could include CallReminder setup, your provider’s Customer Services and towithhold your number when making a call.

Adding a service

Press Operator service during pre-dial or standby.

Registering a new handset This function allows you to register a handset with a basestation. Up to five handsets can be registered to a basestation and each handset can be registered to up to 4 baseunits.

Each handset that registers can select the base number forthe base it is about to register with so that it can beidentified at the Base Selection setting.

Receiving an external call during an internal callIf an external call comes in while the handset is on internalcall, the External call symbol blinks and a series of shortbeeps sounded in the earpiece. The CID of the caller isdisplayed if you have subscribed to the Caller ID service.

Press Talk to hang up the internal call.

Press Talk again to answer the external call.

Enquiry callWhile talking on an external call, the handset can put theexternal call on hold and make an enquiry call to anotherhandset. The handset can then toggle between the externalcall and the other handset.

While the external call is on hold, a tone is emitted to theexternal party to indicate that the call is on hold.

To make an enquiry call carry out the following:

How to clean your handset and base

Occasionally wipe the base and handset with a clean dry cloth.Slightly moisten the cloth to remove any stubborn marks.

Do not use sprays or abrasive cleaners as they may damage thecasing and the parts inside the handset and base.

Make sure it is near a power socket and a phone point.

Do not place the base on or near a television or computer monitor.Some electrical equipment can interfere with reception if the baseis placed too close.

• The handset may be switched off. To switch back on refer to page 60.

No dial tone

• Check the telephone line cord and mains power cord are properly connected, see pages 10 and 11.

• Check that your handset is correctly registered to the CWD2601 base, see page 58.

• You may be out of range. Is the signal strength symbol flashing in the display? Can you hear a beep? If so, move closer to the base. See page 18.

You cannot dial out

• The dialled number may be restricted. Check the call barring settings on page 49.

• The keypad lock may be on. See Handset keypad lock/unlock on page 57.

Handset does not ring

• Check the ringer volume setting is not set to 'Off '. See page 15.

• Check the telephone line cord and mains power cord are properly connected. See pages 10 and 11.

• You may be out of range. Is the aerial symbol flashing in the display? Can you hear a beep? Is so, move closer to the base. See page 18.

Handset is not charging properly

• Check the mains power is properly connected to the base.

• Check your handset is sitting correctly in the base. You may need to clean the charging contacts with a dry cloth.

• Check the batteries are correctly installed. See page 9.

Your handset doesn't link up with the base station

• Is the aerial symbol flashing in the display? If so, move closer to your base unit as you may be out of range. See page 18.

• Check that your handset is correctly registered with your base unit. See page 58.

• Check the mains power is properly connected. See pages 10 and 11.

• Check the battery symbol, if the batteries are low, place your handset back on the base to re-charge. Refer to page 11.

You are experiencing interference on your radio, TV, or com-puter

• To avoid risk of interference we recommend you use your handset at least one metre away from other electrical equipment.

Answering Machine

The answering machine is not recording messages.

• Check that it is switched on. See page 25.

• Check that you have set your CWD2601 to Answer and Record mode. See page 26.

• The memory may be full. To delete messages, see page 29.

Caller ID

The caller’s details are not displayed

• Have you subscribed to a Caller ID service? If not, contact your network provider.

• The details may have been withheld by the caller.

The callers name is not displayed even though it is stored in thephonebook

• Have you stored the full telephone number, with the STD code in the phonebook? The name will only be displayed if an exact match is found. See page 19.

WarrantyThis product has a warranty of 12 months and is thereforeguaranteed to be free from defects in materials and workmanshipduring that period. If you experience a problem within that time,simply call our Customer Helpline on 0870 241 3201 (9.00am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday). There will be a charge for this call.

If your problem cannot be solved by our Helpline, you will need toreturn your product to the place it was purchased. Remember totake your receipt as proof of purchase as it must be producedbefore the warranty can be honoured.

The product must have been used only for the intendedpurpose and not been subjected to wilful or accidentaldamage. This warranty does not cover damage caused byexcessive voltage, lightning or faults on the telephone line. Ifthe product has been tampered with in any way, thewarranty shall be considered null and void.

Power failure

In the event of mains power failure you will not be able to make orreceive calls from your CWD2601. Alternative arrangementsshould be made for access to emergency services.

Transmission frequencies/Interference

Your CWD2601 works by sending radio signals between the basestation and handset.These signals can interfere with hearing aidscausing a humming noise. Some electrical appliances e.g.

computer, TV, radio, fluorescent lights can interfere withreception if it is placed too close. We recommend that you placeyour CWD2601 at least one metre away from such appliances tominimise the risk of interference.

Cleaning

Occasionally wipe over the base and handset with a clean, drycloth. Do not use sprays or abrasive cleaners as these may damagethe casing and interior components.

Positioning

Be sure to install CWD2601 base within reach of a power socketand telephone point. Avoid direct sunlight, extreme temperatures,high humidity and places where your CWD2601 could get wet.
