What are coral reefs and where are they found?

Coral reefs are some of the most ecosystems in the world. They are home to about 25% of all marine life. There are sponges, sea slugs, oysters, clams, crabs, shrimp, sea worms, starfish and sea urchins, also jellyfish and sea anemones, various types of fungi, sea turtles, and many species of fish live in the coral reefs.

Does the uk have coral reef ecosystems

Coral reefs are not just confined to the tropics we have our own here in Scotland! Like warm water corals, cold-water ones have a beautiful hard skeleton, and can form huge reef structures with many associated animals depending on them for shelter and food. Unlike tropical reefbuilding corals, cold-water corals can grow in the dark, in deep, cold water, catching their own food. Lophelia pertusa is the only reef-forming coral in British
