Procedure

The steps that follow describe how to prevent bodily injury at a construction worksite.


Step 1

Explain in your own words the importance of a positive attitude toward safety.


Step 2

a. Carry a step ladder.

b. Set up a step ladder.

c. Climb a step ladder.

d. Store a step ladder.

Demonstrate how to:


Step 3

a. Select a power tool.

b. Demonstrate how to inspect and maintain it for safety.


Step 4

a. Perform a safety inspection of an area of the shop or worksite chosen by your instructor.

b. Make a list of any problems you observe.


Step 5

Demonstrate how to lift a heavy object in order to avoid back injury.


Step 6

a. Locate the shop’s fire extinguisher. What kinds of fires can it be used for?

Class A: Wood, paper, cloth, plastic

Class B: Grease, oil, chemicals

Class C: Electrical cords, switches, wiring

Class D: Combustible metals


Step 6

c. Demonstrate how to use the fire extinguisher.

d. Identify all emergency exits.

e. Locate the phone number to call in case of fire.
