Annual Copyright License

• What is it?– A product of the Copyright Clearance

Center (CCC)– “…a single, comprehensive license that

allows faculty, librarians, researchers and staff to reuse text-based copyrighted content for educational purposes, while respecting the intellectual property of others.”

Annual Copyright License

• What does it really mean?– If a resource is covered by the Annual

Copyright License, you can make it available in any format to your students.

– You can share multiple chapters from a book or multiple articles from a journal.

– You can share the resources for multiple semesters.

• How do I use it?

1. Go to: www.copyright.com

Enter in the title or ISBN of the publication.

A box on the right will show if the resource is covered by the license, what permissions it covers, and if there are any additional terms to the coverage.

• Currently includes over 1.6 million titles.• Twenty new publishers are added each

month.• Participating publishers include:– Augsburg Fortress– Brill Academic Publications– Continuum Publishing Company– Oxford University Press– Westminster / John Knox Press

The Rules

• You can use multiple chapters from a book, but you still can’t reproduce the entire thing.

• Some publishers may put additional restrictions on use.

• Scan should always be made from an original owned by the Seminary or the instructor.

• If you are unsure if a work is covered or if there is a publisher that you would like to see included on the list, let Kristy know.
