Teacher Notes: Theodor Seuss Geisel ( March 2, 1904 – September 24, 1991) was an American writer, poet and cartoonist most widely known for his children’s books written under the pen names Dr. Seuss and Theo LeSieg.

Numerous adaptations of his work have been created, including 11 television specials, four feature films, a Broadway musical and four television series. He won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1958 for Horton Hatches the Egg and again in 1961 for And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

Geisel's birthday, March 2, has been adopted as the annual date for National Read Across America Day, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association.

This lesson offers two opportunities for each CCC!Seuss program. The first slide launches the video program by clicking on the birthday cake. The second slide poses the question, what was the lesson of this story? Use this as a discussion or written expression of understanding. Reproduce slide 20 if used for writing activity.

Like the retro-design? The grunge frame makes an interesting visual treatment for these classic favorite stories. Begin the lesson with the next slide.

Don’t forget: You can download CCC! Dr. Seuss Programs to your

iTunes Library and use on your iPads or iPods.Copyright 2012 New Dimension Media
