CND is a non-profit organization that empowers individuals to achieve their potential. We do this through:
• innovative drug and violence prevention programs,
• positive youth development programs,
• and comprehensive adult outpatient treatment.
Our after-school and summer day camp programs reach more than 1,500 at-risk kids in our community every year - kids that live in Columbus’ neediest neighborhoods and attend our weakest schools.
CND works with K-12th grade youth to help them set and achieve their goals for future success.
CND serves adults with addiction issues to help strengthen the whole community and address some of the biggest problems facing the families we serve.
Who We Are
OUR STORY Serving Franklin County since 1989
Community for New Direction (CND) began in a two-bedroom apartment in the Sullivant Gardens
Housing Development. The lack of positive opportunities in the community caused too many youths to
turn to drugs, alcohol, gang activities, and crime. The program focused on building relationships with
the youth in this community and began to demonstrate success.
In 1995, the program incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Because of its' success, the
Franklin County ADAMH Board asked the agency to open another office and expand its services to the
near east side. In 2010, The Prevention Council of Central Ohio’s Board of Directors voted to pursue a
merger of its programs and funding with Community for New Direction.
Today, CND serves more than 1,800 individuals a year. The primary populations served are African-
Americans, Hispanics, Somalis, and urban Appalachians. Services are provided through in-school,
after-school, and summer programming for K-12th grade youth.
CND has established strong working relationships with schools, and currently has in-school programs
operating in 19 Columbus City Schools and three Reynoldsburg City School sites.
In 2014, CND added outpatient substance abuse disorder treatment to provide a safe haven for adults
to find the support they need to make healthy choices that will strengthen their connections to a better
life.
Today, CND is serving the community in a greater capacity than ever. We look forward to continuing to
serve the community's needs and help individuals build a bridge to a brighter tomorrow.

“All of those associated with Community for New Direction are to be
commended for their foresight, dedication, and selfless donations of
time, energy, and ability far beyond what was required or expected.
These fine people have earned the respect and admiration of many
and have set an example of concerned and responsible citizenship
worthy of emulation.” – Senator Kevin Bacon, 3rd Senatorial District
