Arrives in CopperfieldTxDOT has installed flashing yellow arrow left-turn signals on State

Highway 6 at Sugar Ridge Dr. and Ridge Park Dr., (and is looking at additional intersections for appropriate application).

REMEMBER: A FLASHING YELLOW ARROW = TURN WITH CAUTION.

Color meanings have not changed:- Green arrow: Safe to turn left. [Oncoming traffic must stop.]- Flashing yellow arrow: Left turns permitted. Yield to oncoming traffic

and pedestrians. [Oncoming traffic has a green light.]- Steady yellow arrow: The left-turn signal is about to change to red; prepare

to stop, or prepare to complete your left turn if you are within the intersection.- Red = STOP

Why the change?This change is the result of a national study conducted for the Federal

Highway Administration, which demonstrated that the new signals:- help to prevent crashes- move more traffic through an intersection- and provide additional traffic management flexibility.

Why is it a better left-turn signal?- It’s safer. A national study demonstrated that drivers made fewer

mistakes with the new signals than with traditional left-turn arrow signals. - It’s more efficient. The new signals provide traffic engineers w i t h m o re o p t i o n s t o h a n d l e v a r i a b l e t r a f f i c vo l u m e s . - It’s more consistent. You’ll see the same signals in every state because the new signals are being introduced throughout the U.S.

SPEEDING AND RUNNING OF STOP SIGNS FOR A BETTER, SAFER NEIGHBORHOOD

Speeding and running of stop signs is seriously out of control. The speeding and running of stop signs throughout our area has become increasingly worse over the years. Life is precious and we need to do anything and everything to protect it.

The Copperfield Coalition will be holding a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the Copperfield Church. The meeting will be held in their main worship room at 7 p.m. This room is extremely large and has three main doors. We will not have the long lines like we had with the Town Hall Meeting concerning low income housing. No need to sign in, just come in and have a seat.

We are working with the Sheriff’s Department to develop a strategy with the information we obtained from our poll (Poll results can be viewed on our website). Once we have a baseline set, we will discuss at the upcoming Town Hall Meeting set for September 18. All residents in the area are encouraged to attend and voice their concerns, provide suggestions, and ask questions. We will use all the information that we gather from the Town Hall Meeting to finalize the strategy. Sheriff Garcia’s command staff plan on attending and speaking at this meeting.

You remember the Town Hall Meeting we had a few months ago on Low Income Housing? We had roughly 500 people show up to protect their property values and their way of life. We are now planning to have a much more important Town Hall Meeting – safety of human life. We urge you to attend, and hope for another large turnout.

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DOThere still seems to be some confusion on who we are and what we do.

The Copperfield Coalition is an incorporated non-profit organization filed with Harris County and the State of Texas. We represent over 17 different communities around the Copperfield area. We also represent all businesses within the Coalition boundaries. Our boundaries are basically between Tuckerton and FM529, just west of Barker Cypress to Jack Rabbit Road. You can see our boundary map on our web site (CopperfieldCoalition.COM).

We are a community of Citizens concerned with the Smart Growth of the Copperfield Area. Copperfield Coalition members are comprised of all volunteers. No one receives any compensation for their service. We are not related to any Home Owners Association or the Copperfield Community Association. However, we do work with them. We rely totally on donations and the work of volunteers. Your HOA dues do not fund us whatsoever nor does any governmental agency. We are solely independent from any other entity.

groups, our goal is Smart Growth that continues to preserve the architectural character, the property values and the quality of life in the Copperfield area, while maintaining the safety and enjoyment of all of our communities.

Copperfield Coalition supports “Smart Growth”. We encourage residents and businesses to learn about what options they have and how they can become involved in the process.

All individual Homeowner Associations (HOA) differ from the Copperfield Coalition in their ability to address and manage residential and business concerns. The HOAs are chartered to manage the various contracts: Sheriff’s department, landscaping, pools, and waste/recycling. They also enforce architectural guidelines, deed restrictions, maintenance, needed repairs and maintain the common area. Every HOA has a management company to guide them in making sure that these contracts and efforts are within the charter.

The Coalition has the ability to address concerns that may require political and adjoining communities’ involvement/engagement to address residential and business concerns that are NOT within the charter of the HOAs. The HOAs and the Copperfield Coalition can find some flexibility in working together for the Smart Growth of the communities we represent.

We take on projects that will protect our communities, stop unwanted construction and/or alterations that will affect all of us. We work with politicians and government officials to make improvements in and around our community to enhance our quality of life and protect our property values. We disseminate information via our website, press releases, and email blasts to local residents and businesses.

Please view our website for the accomplishments we have achieved to date, including the defeat of the overpass bridge and the defeat of the building of a low income housing project. We are also working with TX-DOT on bringing in green medians and dual left-hand turn lanes at all four quadrants of the intersection of FM529 at SH6 to mention a few of the things we have done and/or are doing.

of every month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Copperfield Community Center, 15409 Willow River Drive. The meeting is in the board room; please come in the main door. Please check the website for any last minute cancelations and/or changes before attending.

The Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce CreekFest Houston 2012 on Saturday, October 13, 2012 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. This celebration of the Arts and Outdoors in Northwest Houston will be held along the parkway between Collins Park and Meyer Park along Cypresswood Drive, rain or shine. This FREE family event is designed to: Celebrate the wonderful outdoor amenities that make Northwest Houston a great place to live, work and play; Promote area visual and performing arts and artists; Create awareness and encourage usage of Precinct 4 Collins Park and the Greenways along Cypress Creek; Raise money for the economic development initiatives of the Chamber and local charities; and help build a new perspective and community pride for the Cypress Creek Cultural District and Northwest Houston’s Town Center. Proceeds from the CreekFest art auction will directly benefit the Houston Northwest Chamber Foundation that provides scholarships and

funding for community improvement programs. CreekFest 2012 will feature opportunities for Boy Scouts to earn

Making a difference is what we strive for all year long. It was an honor creating the Breast Cancer Pillows this month and it was a pleasure to meet our scholarship recipients during our June meeting. We wish them all great success in their personal endeavors.

We are very proud to have had the opportunity to support several organizations again this year. A few of these organizations are Reach Unlimited, Mission of Yahweh, Cy-Hope, Cypress Assistance Ministries, Magnificat House and the Glory Ranch. Our goal is to continue assisting our community and making a personal difference.

Please remember to come join us in August, as we are all looking forward to a SPA like experience to help us prepare for our very special marketplace event “Shop Til You Drop” on September 8th. Mark your calendars. You don’t want to miss this event!

CWC is a service organization that gives back to the community. This

means that all funds raised will go right back to the community in the form of scholarships for graduating high school seniors, at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair and grants to other non-profits in our community, as well.

Membership into the Cy-Fair Women’s Club is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston/Cypress neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ. Our meetings begin with social time and refreshments at 7:00p.m. immediately followed by a program at 7:30p.m. The church is

located at the corner of Queenston and West Road. Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable,

Hello Mustang Family! The 2012-2013 school year is coming up fast. We wanted to let

you all know about “Corral Days”, which will be coming up soon. “Corral Days” are the days and times that CyRanch has designated for all the incoming freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors to visit the school to pick up their schedules, take yearbook pictures, and pick up their books. This is also an opportunity for the Seniors and Juniors to get their parking passes.

The parents are able to sign up for Booster Club, pay into their child’s lunch account, order yearbooks, and pick up Mustang Spirit wear. Varsity Football players will also have the opportunity to prepay for their pre game meals and carb load meals with the MOMs Club.

It is important that the parents come and be prepared to write a few checks to the school. The incoming freshman can also take a tour of the campus and have the opportunity to have meetings with their teachers.

Cypress-Tomball Democrats August Meeting

The Cypress-Tomball Democrats will hold their next monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 15th, at a new location: Rudy's Grill & Cantina, 11760 Grant Rd., Cypress, TX 77429. A meet and greet will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the general meeting at 7:00 p.m.

July's guest speaker will be Cheasty Anderson from the Center for Public Policy Priorities. She will discuss the Affordable Health Care Act, how it is affecting our lives now and in the future.

Scholarships were awarded to outstanding Key Club members in late May. Awards of $1000 each went to Megan Islin of Cy-Ranch High School; Layeeka Ismail of Cy-Falls High School and Ryan Nava of Cy- Falls High School. Additional awards of $500 each went to Brooke Alexander and Katherine Morgan of Cy-Ranch and to Julie Nguyen of Cy-Falls.

The primary criterion for the scholarship is that the recipient be an outstanding Key Club member. To be outstanding one must have served his club and the community and maintained a scholastic average that qualified him for college admission. Congratulations to the winners. We are proud to honor such outstanding young citizens and to be the Kiwanis sponsor for these schools.

Come join us at the CY-FAIR KIWANIS CLUB and be a part of sponsoring children’s activities, such as the Triathlon. CHILDREN PRIORITY ONE is the motto of Kiwanis Clubs worldwide.

The Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club sponsors nine Key Clubs in the Cy-Fair Schools; sponsors the Kids Triathlon; Girl Scout, Boy Scout, and Sea Scout troops and activities; provides scholarships to outstanding Key Club members in our district; provides assistance to Cypress Assistance Ministries and Bear Creek Ministries; the Houston Food Bank; and many other nonprofit organizations.

Membership is open to persons of good character who adhere to the standards of good conduct in their community and believe in and subscribe to the objects of Kiwanis International.

If you would like to know more about Kiwanis and the programs it promotes, we invite you to be our guest at one of our monthly meetings. The Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club meets at Hearthstone Country Club on the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month at 12:15 for lunch and informative programs.
