ANALYSIS OF COPPER SEAL WASHER

ABSTRACTA copper washer is a flat, thin disk featuring a centrally punched hole and is made of a ductile and malleable material known as copper. This washer type is used to disburse the weight of a screw or nut. The fasteners load is distributed evenly to lessen surface deformation brought about by the tightening of a fastener. Copper is also a good conductor of heat and electricity. Copper washers have strong wear and corrosion resistant properties making them suitable to a broad range of applications. Copper deforms more easily than aluminum or steel and provides a better seal in contact with surface imperfections.Corrosion-resistant copper washers are intended to accommodate different sizes of bolts and nuts, and for fixtures that require versatility and durability. Copper washers are able to perform varied tasks especially in industries such as Equipment Insulation, Construction, and Medical. A mechanical copper washer is a critical part of variety of seals used in chemical, petrochemical and process industry. Copper washer is a component that is plugged in between i.e. solids, liquids and gases so that no leaks release through a shaft.Sealing performance and its durability are depending on the selection of the material and the installation of mechanical seal. A good performance of copper seal for a specific part to achieve this purpose is necessary. The factors that affect the performance of a copper seal washer to leak are friction, wear and its thermal characteristics. These factors are related to the material and geometry or shape of the washer. The thermal characteristics & stress analysis will be carried out in SolidWorks Simulation by applying load. This analysis will be carried out to determine the quality of a mechanical seal as abaffle to prevent fluid leaks. Manufacturing of a copper seal washer will be machined to determine the physical torque and heat expansion.
