1. The

engagement

of all pupils in

regular

physical

activity –

kick-starting

healthy active

lifestyles.

Miss. Kate Levett (PE Subject Leader)

and Mr. Kevin Loughran (School Games

Organiser) completed an ‘Inclusive

School Health Check’ audit.

All children take part in our ‘Ready

Steady Mo’ scheme (The Daily Mile),

which is around our school grounds.

Children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2

are encouraged to travel for at least 15

minutes daily. EYFS children continue to

embed these extra 15 minutes into their

curriculum e.g. wake and shakes in a

morning, outdoor continuous provision,

active Maths/Literacy etc.

Our school attends both Key Stage 1 and

Key Stage 2 inclusion events which

targets those with low physical literacy

and low confidence in PE. We run a

Change 4 Life club on Monday and Friday

*To continue to invest in active

play and games equipment for

playtime and lunchtime – provide

children with a range of equipment

to encourage them to remain active

during times outside.

*Provide a larger range of extra-

curricular activities in response to

pupil voice questionnaires.

*To ensure all children are utilising

the new playground markings, e.g.

within active break times etc.

*Encourage children to

walk/scoot/cycle to school rather

being driven.

*P.E. subject leader (Miss.

Kate Levett) to monitor

active play equipment and

remove any that gets

damaged or broken.

Replace if necessary.

active children and helps build fitness

and encourages a healthy active lifestyle.

To also engage less active children, we

have funded a number of pupils to be

trained as play leaders and we have also

purchased 2 sets of playground

equipment which are used to try to

encourage less active children to be

physically active at play times.

As a school, we have also agreed to use

‘Tailored Intervention’ not only to help

children academically, but at Cop Lane we

believe this time should be used to

target those children who are at risk at

not achieving Year Group Expectations in

P.E by the Summer and work alongside

these pupils.

KS1 and KS2 children participate in a one

hour ‘fitness’ lesson each week, which will

lessons are fun, energetic and meaningful

through cross-curricular teaching

methods e.g. Science.

Both Key Stage 1 and 2 along with EYFS

children have access to trained Year 5/6

play leaders at lunch time who run a

range of physical activities.

We have recently had a brand new Junior

playground installed during the Summer

(2018). On the playground there is a new

daily mile track with fun activity spots

scattered at different points of the mile,

a fun fitness circuit with differentiated

challenges, as well as new AstroTurf for

the football zone.

2. The profile

of PE and

sport being

raised across

the school as

a tool for

whole school

improvement.

We have achieved the Gold award for the

School Games Mark.

We use the Lancashire tracker for PE,

which allows teachers to track the

progress of all pupils on a termly basis

and target those who require extra

support in the form of extra-curricular

activities.

Within fitness lessons, KS2 children

complete their ‘fitness record’ which is

kept with them throughout the year. This

will help build the profile of PE and shows

progression of activities throughout our

school.

In our hall we have a PE and Extra-

Curricular notice board which informs all

children of school activities coming up

over the week, term and year. As well as

teachers are using appropriate

assessment strategies – to enable

achievements and progress to be

celebrating those children who have been

‘Healthy Heroes’ or ‘Sporting Superstars’.

We have a Sports Council in school who

also sit on the student council and bring

fresh ideas about school sport and PE.

They are also responsible for ensuring

children at playtimes and lunch-times are

active. We encourage all our children to

have a pupil voice to raise school

improvement, e.g. thinking of Sporting

games for Sport’s Day.

At Cop Lane, we believe in teaching and

embedding Cross-Curricular opportunities

for our children. For example, we have

bought into an Orienteering scheme (as

this was a PE activity which needed

to other areas of the Curriculum e.g.

think of ways we can target these

children for progression.

This year we continuing to embed the ‘My

Personal Best’ scheme which has been

developed through the Youth Sport

Trust. Each half - term we have a PE

Value which will be developed across the

school in PE lessons and also across the

curriculum. These values link with our

Christian values in school, which will be

meaningful and purposeful for our

children at Cop Lane.

Pupil attainment and progress 2018-2019:

At Cop Lane, we use the Lancashire Tracker to assess our judgements from the Lancashire

scheme of work. It is pleasing that a high percentage of children in both KS1 and KS2 are

currently at Age Related Expectations, which highlights the outstanding teaching and learning

being embedded.

The data below shows the current percentage of children who are at ‘Entering’ within the

National Curriculum for P.E. This data will continuously be updated to be in line with teacher

based assessments.

(This Data was produced in

Autumn from the LCC tracker

and will continue to be

adapted/amended throughout

the Spring/Summer term).

Attendance to out of hours School P.E. based Clubs:

The school is continuing to improve and increase the range of PE clubs we provide before and

after school through pupil voice interviews and questionnaires. We were very pleased with the

number of children attending at least one club.

Competition:

Cop Lane has taken part in numerous sport competitions through membership of the School

Sports Partnership with the local cluster including boys and girls Football, Tag Rugby, Netball,

Orienteering, Cross – Country and Inclusion events.

Lunchtime:

Further equipment has been purchased for lunchtime and the Welfare Staff have been trained

to deliver Change 4 Life games to work with the children one lunchtime each week to develop

their physical activity levels and encourage a range of sporting activities across all age ranges.

Adventurous Activity:

In June 2019, Year 6 will be taking part in adventure style activities, such as abseiling, canoeing,

raft building, high ropes, orienteering and team building games.

Swimming Reporting 2018-2019:

Every year, a letter is sent to Parents to assess whether their children have achieved the

National Curriculum Guidance of children being able to swim 25m, therefore those children who

need booster sessions to achieve this, take part in swimming sessions each year. There are strong

links with an external coach in addition to the links with the Pool provider.

In November 2018, a questionnaire was sent to the parents/carers of the current Year 6 cohort

in regards to swimming. Detailed below are the findings from the questionnaire.

Children can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m 100%

Children can use a range of strokes effectively 90%

Children can perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations 77%

With this said, we are utilising our Sports Premium funding, with an aim for these children who

have not yet met the National Curriculum standards, to have additional booster swimming

sessions to ensure children are secure in using a range of strokes and water safety. This data

shall be reviewed in Summer 2019, once the children have been re-assessed in the water.

As in previous years we have used our Sports Premium Funding with the aim of creating an

exciting and sustainable curriculum for all of our pupils and we believe that we have once again

used the funding to great effect. As discussed above, we have spent our allocation in a variety of

different areas in an attempt to have the greatest impact, and this appears to have been

successful. As previously stated, we believe the greatest impact has been on the amount of pupils

choosing to participate in our sports clubs after-school and at lunch time. To keep this

sustainable, we have purchased necessary equipment and have an extremely dedicated team of

staff who are committed to providing a wide range of activities after school. In addition to the

clubs provided by the SSP and external coaches, our staff ran numerous sports clubs, and are

prepared to run clubs in years to come.

Overall, in relation to sport and P.E. at Cop Lane, so far this year has been excellent, highlighted

by the dramatic increase in sports club participation from previous years. Although we are

obviously extremely happy with the progress and impact of the funding, we are already discussing

how we can further improve next year.
