Whoever claimed the worldof fittings for pneumaticpipes had nothing moreto offer?
A new market entry is a line of brand-new products based on a simple yetrevolutionary idea; including thecomponents required for all thepneumatic functions in a single body,
a technopolymer plastic fitting. This is the generation,a range of products for fitting oncompressed-air systems. As with allnew applications, it was important
to receive the signals from the market, analyze demand, and to convergethem in a single project.
02
An introduction
Metal Work has tried todetermine
… whether these principles could alsobe meaningful in the world of fittings, which is where comesin. There had never been somethingthat looked like a pipe-pipe fitting yetwas in actual fact a pressure regulator, something else that looked likeprevious versions but
was actually a flow regulator, andsomething else that lookedsuspiciously familiar yet was really atop-performance solenoid valve! We’ve managed to squeeze into asingle unit main all the pneumaticfunctions – regulating the flow, regulating the capacity, cutting
off the flow manually or electrically, measuring the pressure, relieving theair … and the list goes on.In short, it is a fitting seen as a sortof brick (a Lego block, if you like) withwhich to build a whole new world ofthings pneumatic.
All the products can beconnected in series or inparallel or in a combinationof both.
…This allows total freedom whenconstructing pneumatic systems. Withseries connection, each module carriesout a function linked to the followingone. For example, there may be anRML pressure regulator followed bya MAN L gauge giving the value ofthe regulated pressure.
With parallel connection, each moduleperforms a separate function. Forexample, a number of SOV L solenoidvalves arranged in parallel gives aset of 3/2 solenoid valves that is small, lightweight and complete with fittingsand reel. It is also possible to connectmodules in series pneumatically, but
arrange them in parallel, in whichcase a pre-bent crescent-shaped pipeis provided.
The following messageswere received from themarket:
Miniaturise ..............................
Lighten ......................................
Integrate ..................................
Modularity ...............................
Aesthetics ................................
Pneumatic components must be small to enable the construction ofneatly-engineered machines, and reduce the dimensions of pneumatic panels.
Less weight, for moving parts, means less inertia and hence better accelerationand performance.
The inclusion of different components in a single item cuts assembly timesand the number of product codes, and makes miniaturisation easier.
The use of modular items increases the designers’ freedom and reduces theneed for adaptors, supports and connections.
If a pneumatic component is fitted on a machine in a visible position, itsshape and colour must make the machine more pleasing to the eye.
03
Fixing methods
All fixing methods are possible:
• On a wall, using the two transversalholes provided in all the bodies.
• On a plate, using the steel bracketprovided.
• On a panel. This requires a holein the panel and the Line-on-Lineitem is fixed using the ring nutprovided. Note that all the controlknobs on manual items have asmaller diameter than the size of thehole to make in the panel.
• Underneath, fixing the steel bracketunder a piece of sheet metal.
Let us take a closer look atone of these products.
The RML is a miniaturised pressurereducer capable of keeping a constantdownstream pressure with a settingrange of 14 to 116 psi, and 260Nl/min flow rate, measured at 87∆p14 psi. It can be used for numerous
applications. Mounted on a valveoutlet, it can be used to regulatepressure at each utility as it is only0.57 inc wide (1/4” pipe) or 0.73 inc(5/16” pipe); or it is easy to mounton compact valve units. It can be
used as an economiser, by supplyingthe cylinder chamber with theminimum pressure required for thereturn movement.
Dott. Ing. Giorgio Guzzoni
All the items are availablein a version
…for pipe-pipe connection, thank tothe two push-in fittings, or for pipe-thread connection, adding an RU6fitting with his male NPT thread. In the latter case the element can bemounted directly on the actuator, for
example the VSR L quick-relief valve(version with male thread) is mountedon the cylinder. On one side of the technopolymerbody is an indelible pneumatic symbolin relief to help the user identify the
function and direction of flow. Two sizes are currently available:1/4”, with fittings for 1/4” pipes, and5/16”, with fittings for 5/16” pipes.
RFL R: in-line flow regulator

LINE OF PRODUCTS ON LINE
Line on Line is an exclusive range of products for mountingon pneumatic circuits. With these small, highly efficientcomponents it is possible to perform all pneumatic functionsat any point of the circuit.Line on Line is ultra-modular - the components can beconnected in parallel, in series or combined parallel/series.All Line on Line products are available for pipe-pipeconnection with two push in fittings. Adding an RU6 fitting,it is possible to have a pipe-NPT thread connection. The body is made of technopolymer, giving a product thatis extremely lightweight and compact. One side of the body is marked with an indelible pneumaticsymbol to facilitate identification and indicate the directionof flow.

The RLF R flow micro-regulator belongs to the LINE ONLINE® family and can be connected in series or in parallelwith all the other products. The RFL R regulates the air input and thus the speed inpneumatic actuators. Two versions are available:• Type U (unidirectional) regulates the flow only in one ofthe two directions of air flow. The following types of fittingcan be mounted:- Push-in input and output fitting• Type B (bidirectional) regulates the flow in both directionsof air flow. The following types of fitting can be mounted:- Push-in input and output fitting- Threaded port and push-in fittingThere are three possible types of assembly (see exampleon the following page).
