Water Wise 5E
This term 5E are studying all things water. So far we have
investigated the properties of water, the percentage of water
in food and the water cycle. 5E has also completed
mapping major national and international bodies of water.
In the next few weeks we will begin studying how water is
used and the effects of water use on the environment. We
are looking forward to our water safari at the end of the
term. On safari, we will follow the Castlereagh from its
head waters in the Warrumbungles through the catchment
area to our homes.

Cross Country stars Shine at Zone Carnival Last Friday beautiful running weather greeted our students as they competed in the annual P.S.S.A. Zone Cross Country
Carnival at Coolah. In keeping with tradition, the venue was the Coolah Golf Club.
The four outstanding results from our students on the day came from Molly Atkinson, Nick Willoughby, Jack Masman and
Tiarni Andrews who won their events in great style. Six of our teams, the 8/9 Years Boys, the 8/9 Years Girls, the 10 Years
Boys, the 11 years Boys, the 12/13 Years Boys and the 12/13 Years Girls had great success, winning their respective events.
The first six placegetters in each event have qualified to run in the P.S.S.A. Area Carnival also to be held at Coolah on Friday,
18-06-10. They are, with their places last Friday marked in brackets:
8/9 Years Boys: Oliver Kearney (2nd), Fergus Atkinson (4th) and Chris Reynolds (5th)

A special thank you goes to all those in Coolah associated with the running of the day. It was very well organised and most
successful.

Free fun program for kids to become healthier, fitter and happier? Do you have children 7 to 13 years old?
Are you worried about them being overweight?
We aim to get get kids healthier and fitter in 10 weeks-and help them towards long term good health!
The NSW Parenting Program is an established healthy lifestyle program to improve health, fitness, self esteem and
confidence in children above their ideal weight. In the program we encourage children to give things a go and show
parents &/or carers how they can support the whole family in making healthier choices.
The program is NOT a diet and does not encourage rapid weight loss in children, rather it is about empowerment-
putting the child at the centre of a range of ways to make healthy lifestyle changes, to lose weight naturally and build
a foundation for long term healthy living.
What Happens in the NSW Parenting Program?
The program consists of 20 sessions (twice per week, 2 hour, sessions) run after school.
Program highlights include:
Games, activities and swimming for kids, learning being active can be a lot of fun!
Discuss easy, effective ways to improve your child’s self esteem and confidence.
Demonstrations, games and tips on healthy foods, label reading and portion sizes
There is even a fun supermarket tour and a chance to try delicious new foods!
Thanks to the funding from the NSW Department of Health, Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS) has 15
places available in the program within Coonabarabran. The next program will be running in School Term 3 2010.
