Any water and CIP liquids that come incontact with the sterile filtration cartridgesare also pre-filtered, to eliminate any riskof soiling these cartridges.

Alfa Laval beer sterile filtration systemsare optimized for effective cleaning-in-placeof the pre-filtration and sterile filtrationcartridges. These are cleaned andregenerated on a regular base with standardcaustic solutions. In addition, the completesystem – including the cartridges – issterilized with hot water.

The system also integrates supply ofsterile gases for integrity testing and tominimize beer losses at the beginningand end of the production runs. Microbiological safetyFor all breweries, it is essential thatyour filtered beer is microbiologicallystable. Sartocool PS filtration cartridgesare available with two different poresizes – 0.45µm or 0.65 µm – to matchthe level of retention you specify.

Sartorius filtration cartridges areintegrity-tested and validated to ensurethe reproducible retention ofmicro-organisms,to help minimize any risk of the sterilefiltered beer getting spoiled.

Chemical compatibilitySartocool PS filtration cartridgesincorporate membranes made ofpolyethersulfone (PES). This PESmembrane was specially developed tomeet particularly demanding breweryrequirements in terms of cleaning andsterilization cycles. Because it can alsotolerate high PH levels (from 1 to 14),you can easily regenerate each filtrationcartridge using caustic liquids. This

means Sartocool PS filtration cartridgesdeliver reliable performance throughouttheir long service life. Such membranescan withstand exceptional mechanicaland thermal stresses, thus guaranteeingthe mechanical stability required in manybrewery applications – such as thefilling of kegs.

Low adsorptionThe PES membrane also features lowadsorption of undesirable particles,colloids and proteins. This reduces theload on the final membrane, withoutaffecting the characteristics of the beer.

This low adsorption makes it easier toregenerate the membrane, resulting ina longer service life that helps cutfiltration costs.
