Today is Teacher Aide Day. It is a special day because our Teacher Aides are people who work with our students EVERY day and make an enormous difference to student learning. They are multi-skilled and our teachers couldn’t get by without them. They are an extra line of support for all students. We thank them for all the extra work they do that isn’t really part of their job description. Thank you – Julie, Sandra, Penny, Fiona & Fiona! We think you’re amazing!

This year’s NAPLAN Student Reports have arrived and have been given to students today. We are very pleased with the consistency of Reading progress across the testing. Writing has shown growth, particularly with Year 3. This is encouraging following the effort being applied to the teaching of writing. This is a complex and long term project for us. Spelling and Grammar are also at pleasing standards. We are also encouraged by the number of students in the upper two bands across the testing. Deeper analysis of all data will occur in the coming weeks and will inform our future planning for all year levels. NAPLAN 2020 School Readiness Testing – next Tuesday & Wednesday School Readiness Testing (or NAPLAN On-line practice) allows all schools to test their computer network and its ability to cater for the testing; and it is important that those students who will be using the new platform in 2020

get the chance to experience it. There will be no reporting on the practice tests, just feedback from students and the staff about its operation. Anyone not wanting their children to do this practice testing is asked to contact the school on Monday. The NAPLAN On-line practice testing for Year 2, 4 & 6 students will be next Tuesday & Wednesday. There will be two tests – a combination of Grammar, Language Conventions & Numeracy plus a Writing test. Each test will take approximately 45 minutes. The SRT is delivered to students using a lockdown browser so that students cannot access the internet or spell checkers while trial testing. NAPLAN On-line will:- Feature tailored testing which gives students questions that are

more suited to their ability, resulting in better assessment and more precise results.

Provide a more engaging test experience for students. Provide more precise results so teachers can identify learning

priorities and meet individual student’s needs early. Students were shown the style of the SRT today and showed no concerns at all. It is very straight forward. Parents can familiarise themselves with the NAPLAN On-line platform by using the public demonstration site available at www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/naplan-online/naplan-online-public-demonstration-site. The regional NAPLAN Testing Coordinator will be visiting the school in Week 10 to discuss any concerns with staff. Schedule

Families are asked to let us know if they are not continuing at the school in 2020, or if they know of any prospective family likely or interested in enrolling in 2020.

It is of great importance that we get a clear picture of our likely enrolment total ASAP. The staffing process for the region is well underway.

The department has introduced new consent forms to satisfy legal require-ments when students may use a Third party website at school. Parental/guardian consent is a requirement by law under the Queensland Information Privacy Act 2009. Third party website consent forms need to be completed when students are required to create an account or provide personal information to a third party website which is any website which is accessed at school but hosted and managed outside of the Department of Education and Training (DoE) network.

At Coolabunia SS, these websites include sites such as: classdojo, cool-

mathgames, educationperfect, mathletics, reading eggs, scratch etc. Full

information is included in the attached form. Please read the information

and complete the consent form page only (yellow paper) and return it

to the school as soon as possible.
