THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD (YEAR C) 8TH MAY, 2016 We support the endeavours of the Royal Commission to bring healing to the victims of abuse. Church's website: www.facingthetruth.org.au Mass Count: During the month of May there will be a count of those attending masses in our three communities—starting this weekend. Conversation in Faith Tuesday, 17th May at 7.30 pm in the McKenna Centre. Our next conversation is with Mohammed Ali Baquiri Some parishioners may remember that Fr Michael interviewed Mohammed during the Masses on a Sunday last year. At that time he could only respond briefly to the questions Michael asked him. He is a refugee with a fascinating personal story, which he told to a GriefLine conference at which some of the Trinity Refugee Outreach group were present. He is now almost finished a law degree and a powerful advocate for refugees and asylum seekers. He will share with us a compelling story well worth hearing. PS: Our last speaker was Bishop Vincent Long who has now been appointed as Bishop to the Diocese of Parramatta. Our lose, their gain - Congratulations to him. Reflection: The readings on the Sundays after Easter are my favourite of the whole year. This is because they have everything to do with the fact that for Jesus death was not the end , it was not the finale; the finale was the Resurrection ! He defeated death and rose again as He said He would ! We have been reading accounts of how He appeared to His disciples and friends reassuring them that He had not forgotten them. This is the last time Jesus appeared to His disciples, re-iterating to them that now having experienced first hand everything that had happened, they were called to be witnesses after the fact. His Father was going to keep His Promise and send them the 'power' to take this amazing news to all the nations. They would not be doing this alone – no way were they going this alone. They were going to be empowered. He blessed them and left them and this time though they were filled with joy. This is so relevant for us today especially being Mothers Day. We must remember to pray for all mothers everywhere - that they can draw upon this 'power' , the Holy Spirit who is promised to each and every one of us - mothers who are well and not so well; mothers who can look after their families and those who cannot for whatever reason; mothers who are victims of family violence; mothers who are grieving the death of their children ; mothers coping with sick children; mother's all over the world who are struggling one way or another. May they never feel alone , may they have the opportunity to witness the power of the Holy Spirit, may they feel empowered to cope and may they be able to witness the joy that the risen Jesus has promised us. Happy Mothers Day and May this Power be with each one of you !!! Cynthia White PLT Adaptation of Book of Proverbs 31: A Valiant Woman Who shall find a valiant woman? Who shall find a woman of strength? A pearl of great price is she. All who are with her have confidence in her and benefit from her experience. She works diligently, taking pride in her inner resources and strengths. She opens her heart to the needy, she is generous with the poor, yet she does not neglect her family’s needs nor her own priorities. She is known for her dignity and strength and she laughs at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and she teaches in a kindly way. Those who are close to her, praise her. May all value who she is and may all applaud her integrity.

Our next conversation is with Mohammed Ali Baquiri

Some parishioners may remember that Fr Michael interviewed Mohammed during the Masses on a Sunday last year. At that time he could only respond briefly to the questions Michael asked him. He is a refugee with a fascinating personal story, which he told to a GriefLine conference at which some of the Trinity Refugee Outreach group were present. They were going to be empowered. He blessed them and left them and this time though they were filled with joy.

A litany for Mothers A litany for Mothers A litany for Mothers A litany for Mothers Eve our first mother – thank you for stepping out and being the first to understand the complexities of life. Sarah, Hannah and Elizabeth – thank you for your patience and courage in waiting for a miracle. May all people longing for children be strengthened by your stories and comforted in their pain. Hagar – thank you for your resolve in the face of exile. May all mothers who are forced to flee or are forgotten be given hope in you. Rebecca – thank you for your flexibility. Let us remember all mothers who have to raise their children in a different country or far from their relatives and who feel iso-lated. Rachel – you carried the burden of grief and wept for your children. Hold the hands of all those mothers who weep for their children – children who have gone missing, who have died or are lost to them in other ways. Jochebed – you used wisdom and insight to protect your children. Give to all mothers this wisdom and insight in the bringing up of their children, especially in vulnerable times. Naomi and Ruth – you showed that love can conquer all trials. Help all mothers to love constantly when life seems impossible and despair weighs hard upon their souls. Mary – the new Eve whose ‘yes’ to God changed our world forever. Thank you for

sheltering the Holy One all those years ago, for your faithful love and tender care of

God’s most precious Son. May we never forget that in your giving is our greatest re-

ceiving – of the gift of life wrapped in a manger and in a tomb. May we know the true

cost of relationship by holding our faith in Christ deep within our hearts as you once

Trinity Refugee Outreach (TRO)

Teams were formed to engage our communities with the issues of our times in relation to Refugees and Asylum Seekers. One team began working on raising awareness of asylum

seeker issues through talks by Mohammad Ali Baqiri, David Spitteler, Bishop Long and Libby Saunders from BASP, to date. Another team is

working on promoting advocacy for the rights of asylum seekers and a third team is working on ways to provide practical support and hospitality

for people seeking asylum. At our last meeting Trinity Refugee Outreach teams decided to support the ‘Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP)’. Further information on BASP to follow

in next week’s bulletin.

Asylum Seeker

The Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP) is

looking for someone with a granny flat type

arrangement who might be open to accommodating

a single Iranian refugee, about 30 years of age, with

two small, well-trained dogs. He speaks excellent

English. However, the government will not provide

him with a work permit as he is a boat refugee with

only a temporary visa.

He would have some support services through

BASP, and perhaps through our parish community.

If you are in this position would you please notify

the Parish Office and we will take it from there.

This weekend at all St. Peter’s masses Sheila and Phil

Connors will be selling tickets for the Pacific Belles Concert, 4th June, McKenna Centre,

THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD (YEAR C)

Gospel: Luke 24: 46-53 Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You see how it is written that the

Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,

and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins

would be preached to all the nations, beginning from

Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.

‘And now I am sending down to you what the Father has

promised. Stay in the city then, until you are clothed with the

power from on high.’ Then he took them out as far as the

outskirts of Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them.

Now as he blessed them, he withdrew from them and was

carried up to heaven. They worshipped him and then went back

to Jerusalem full of joy; and they were continually in the

Temple praising God.

1st Anniversary occurring at this time:
