In collaboration with Weatherhead School of Management the Centre for Design, Culture and Management invites Ph.D. students to attend the Doctoral Seminar ‘The Convergence of Design plus Management’.

The programme is inspired by the working conference in June 2010 on the convergence of design and management hosted by Professor Richard Buchanan, Weatherhead School of Management.

FACULTYProfessor Richard Buchanan, Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, (editor Design Issues)Professor Poul Rind Christensen, Kolding School of Design & Univer-sity of Southern DenmarkProfessor Janet McDonnell, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, London, (editor Co-Design)Associate Professor Silje Kamille Friis, Kolding School of DesignAssociate Professor Jakob Lauring, ASB, Aarhus UniversityLecturer/fellow Sabine Junginger, Hertie School of Governance, Berlin/Contemporary Institute for the Arts and Imagination, Lancaster University.

COURSE CONCEPTThe cross-disciplinary research agenda on design and management gain importance from the rapid transition of society and the contin-gency challenge faced by organisations. This triggers the meeting of creative designing and management. What then, are the new research agendas emerging from the meeting of design and management? How can we conceptualise this meeting? And how can we research the nexus of design and management in ways that inform and inspire for convergent research agendas?

The aim of the seminar is to generate conversations on key research themes of importance to the design-management agenda facing us.

The seminar will build on participants’ proposals for research writings and joint conversations aiming to inspire participants to develop their propositions into final research papers or journal articles. Key notes, supervisions and excursions are arranged in order to inspire conver-sations at the seminar. Finally, the goal is to explore and promote a network based research agenda among young researchers in the fields of management and design.
