Floor ConvectorsApplication:Floor convectors are modern heating bodiesdesigned for primary heating, as well as forsecondary heating, combined with other primaryheating bodies (radiators, floor heating, fanconvectors, air conditioning devices, etc.). They are suitable for the heating of rooms with largeglazing surfaces: car showrooms, winter gardens,apartments, business, shopping and similarpremises. In addition to their heating function, theirfurther important functions are the prevention ofcondensation build-up on glazing, and fending-offinlet of cold air into the room.

Natural Convection Floor Convectors TK

Natural convection floor convectors principle ofoperation is natural air convection. They are designedfor secondary room heating. Their heating capacitiesrange from 0.07 kW to 3 kW, depending on theconvector size. They are distinguished for their silentoperation.

Forced Convection Floor Convectors TKV

TKV floor convectors principle of operation isforced convection, i.e. natural air circulation isboosted by means of a fan. They are suitable bothfor primary and secondary heating of rooms, inapplications requiring higher heating capacities.The heating capacity is a function of the convectorsize, and ranges from 0.13 kW to 10.5 kW.

Floor convector for humid conditions withforced or natural convection TKV-S/TK-STKV-S/TK-S floor convectors operate with forcedTKV-S or natural TK-S convection. They areparticularly suitable for heating of areas withincreased level of humidity such as swimmingpools or similar. At the forced convection version,the low voltage (12V) ventilation fan is installeddue to security reasons. Due to increased level ofhumidity, condensation collection tray is installed.Heating power range is between 0.13 kW and 4.3kW and depends on convection type and the sizeof the convector .

Cooling and Heating Floor Convectors TKH

In summer, the TKH floor convector draws in warmair from the areas around windows or hot walls,cools it in the heat exchanger, and feeds it backinto the room. This reduces heat gains due to heatroom envelope surfaces. In the cooling process, apart of moisture is extracted from the air; thisdehumidification also contributes to thermalcomfort. The TKH total cooling capacity range is0.4 kW to 1.7 kW.In winter, the TKH floor convector is applied forheating like any other floor convector: it heats coldair from the window area and returns it into theroom. The TKH heating capacity range is 0.9 kWto 4.2 kW.

SOFTWARE KLIMA TK 1.4The package allows the selection of a standardheating floor convector (TK, TKV and TKH types)either according to a specified convector length ora specified thermal capacity. Upon the entry ofbasic parameters, the package lists thecorresponding convector types with all availableaccessories. The convector type listing is a ready-to-use ordering key. The final calculation can beprinted, to document the calculation results alongwith all input parameters and technicalcharacteristics.

Floor Convectors

Application:Floor convectors are modern heating bodiesdesigned for heating of business and shoppingpremises, car showrooms, hotels, apartments andother rooms. They serve either as primary heatingbodies or secondary heating bodies, combined withprimary heating bodies of other types (e.g. floorheating, radiators, fan convectors, air conditioningdevices, etc.) They are particularly suitable forapplication in all rooms with envelope walls exposedto low exterior temperatures (large windows or glasswalls, cold walls).

Benefits:

In rooms with large glazing envelope surfaces orcold envelope walls, it is difficult to establishcomfortable heating by means of conventionalheating bodies only. Temperature differencesbetween the glass surfaces and bulk air temperaturelead to cooling of air in the boundary layer alongthe wall and in turn, to its downwards flow andspreading across the entire room floor area, theresult being occupants’ discomfort. Especially whenoutside temperatures drop below 10 °C, it isvirtually impossible to maintain occupationalcomfort in rooms with large surface windows unlessauxiliary floor convector heating is used. Floor convectors further prevent condensationbuild-up on glass, as they maintain a layer of warmair adjacent to the glass surfaces. Floor convectors(in particular the TKV type) also prevent inlet of coldoutside air.

Functions:

• Room heating (primary or secondary heating)• Maintenance of uniform air circulation field in

the room, and thereby, uniform distribution of heat throughout the room

• Prevention of condensation build-up on glass surfaces

• Prevention of ingress of cold outside air through windows or doors, and thereby, prevention of draught inside the room

• Room cooling (TKH)• Heating of areas with increased humidity (TKV-

S/TK-S)

Operation:

Warm / cold air, which is accumulated on the floor, isheater / cooled with forced and natural convection onthe heat exchanger and returned back to the room.

A TKV type floor convector has a fan built in, to drawin cold air from the region close to the floor and afterheating the air, to feed it back into the room, in apattern providing an air curtain on the glass windowsurface. In this way, forced air circulation ismaintained in the room, providing faster, moreintensive and uniform heating than achievable bynatural convection (e.g. by means of radiators ornatural convection floor convectors).

Floor convector TKH has operation equal to TKVincluding cooling function.Floor convector TKV-S/TK-S is adapted for operationin humid conditions.

Heating capacity and pressure drop measurements on the water side (TK,TKV) have been performed by HLK Stuttgart, Germany, according to DIN4704-2, 4, 5 / DIN 442-2 standards.

Heating and cooling capacitiy measurements (on TKH) have beenperformed by University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering,Ljubljana, Slovenia, based on Eurovent 6/3 (1996), EN 442 standards.

Acoustic pressure and acoustical power measurements have beenperformed on EBMPAPST, Landshut, Germany, according to ISO 3745 andDIN 45635/1. standards.

Conformance measurements and certification were performed by SIQ,Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Natural Convection Floor Convectors TK

Application:Natural convection floor convectors are appliedbasically as secondary heating bodies, incombination with other primary heating bodies(also in combination with TKV’s serving asprimary heating bodies). They are installed to thefloor, in the immediate proximity of windows,doors and other cooling surfaces.They are used for prevention of condensation onglass surfaces, reduction of the convection effectfrom cold surfaces, and prevention of inlet of coldoutside air through doors. Floor convectors withnatural convection feature silent operation.

Operation:Natural convection floor convectors apply theprinciple of natural circulation of air. Cold airenters into the floor convector, warm in the heatexchangers and rises into the room.

TK Components (Basic Design):1. Heat exchanger,2. Grille,3. Housing.

Types:TK floor convectors are available in 33 lengthsfrom 800 mm to 5000 mm, in three widths of 200mm, 300 mm and 400 mm, and in three heightsof 70 mm, 105 mm and 140 mm.In the range below 3000 mm, lengths areavailable in the increments of 100 mm, up to3000 mm lengths are available in the incrementsof 200 mmAt heights of 70 and 105 mm, single-heatexchangers are installed, while at height of 140mm, double-heat exchangers are installed.

Control Accessories:The basic design has no water side controlcomponents. They have to be ordered as options(01, ..., 06) to the basis version.

Forced Convection Floor Convectors TKVApplication:Floor convectors with forced convection areparticularly suitable for primary or secondaryheating of rooms, where faster heating and largeheating capacities are required. They are suitablefor application in all rooms with envelope wallsexposed to low exterior temperatures (largewindows or glass walls, cold walls,...), as theoccupancy comfort in a room depends on theuniform distribution of heat in the room. They are used for prevention of condensation onglass surfaces, reduction of the convection effectfrom cold surfaces, and prevention of inlet of coldoutside air through doors.Floor convectors with forced convection featurelow noise level during low fan speeds.

Operation:Forced convection floor convectors apply theprinciple of forced air circulation, maintained bothby means of a tangential fan and by naturalconvectionand. Cold air enters into the floorconvector, warms in the heat exchanger and risesinto the room. Increased volume flow ratecontributes to uniform distribution of heat in theroom and improved occupancy comfort.

TKV Components (Basic Design):1. Heat exchanger,2. Tangential fan (with IP 44 protection),3. Electric connection socket,4. Grille,5. Housing.

Types:TK floor convectors are available in 30 lengthsfrom 1100 mm to 5000 mm, in three widths of200 mm, 300 mm and 400 mm, and in twoheights of 105 mm and 140 mm.In the range below 3000 mm, lengths are availablein the increments of 100 mm, up to 3000 mmlengths are available in the increments of 200 mmAt height of 105 mm, single-heat exchangers areinstalled, while at height of 140 mm, double-heatexchangers are installed Three level fan speed isavailable.

Control Accessories:Options: between 01 and 09R.Note: if a single floor convector is attached to eachroom thermostat, accessory 09T is required. In caseof two or more floor convectors are attached to eachroom thermostat, one 09T is required and additional09R units. Total amount of 09R units must be equalto the number of attached convectors. Note: accessory 06 (two way valve with electricalthermostat head) can be installed to forcedconvection convectors only. When the thermostatturns off motors, the valve closes water supply andprevents natural convection. Valve closing time is 4minutes.Mandatory accessory for the forced convection floorconvector (TKV and TKH) is room thermostat 09T(+09R) with three-stage setting switch (MIN - MED -MAX), ON/OFF switch and HEATING/COOLINGswitch.Basic version does not include regulation elementson the water supply side. They have to be ordered asoptions (01, ..., 06) to the basis version.

Floor convectors for humid conditions with forced ornatural convection TKV-S/TK-S

Application:Floor convectors with forced convection are particularlysuitable for primary or secondary heating of rooms,where faster heating and large heating capacities arerequired. Due to high level of humidity in the room, 12 Vfan and condensation collection tray are installed. Theyare suitable for application in all rooms with envelopewalls exposed to low exterior temperatures (largewindows or glass walls, cold walls,...), as the occupancycomfort in a room depends on the uniform distributionof heat in the room. They are used for prevention of condensation on glasssurfaces, reduction of the convection effect from coldsurfaces, and prevention of ingress of cold outside airthrough doors.Floor convectors with forced convection feature lownoise level during low fan speeds.

Operation:Forced convection floor convectors apply the principle offorced air circulation, maintained both by means of atangential fan and by natural convection. Cold air enters into the floor convector, warm in the heatexchanger and rises into the room.Increased volume flow rate contributes to uniformdistribution of heat in the room and improved occupancycomfort.

TKV-S/TK-S (Basic Design) Components:1. Heat exchanger,2. Tangential fan 12 V (not for TK-S),3. Electric connection socket (not for TK-S),4. Grille,5. Condensation collection drip tray,6. Housing.

Types:TKV-S/TK-S floor convectors are available in 15 lengthsfrom 1100 mm and 2500 mm, 200mm, 300 mm or 400mm width and 140 mm height.Three level fan speed is available.

Cooling and Heating Floor Convectors TKH

Application:Cooling floor fan convectors are designed forsecondary cooling, during the cooling season, inrooms where cooling is required close to the heatsource (e.g. solar radiation through windows) toprevent room temperature raising. They aresuitable for all rooms with large hot envelopesurfaces (large windows, glazing, etc.). They areapplied in buildings in which, due to theconstruction characteristics, ceiling cooling isnot feasible. During the heating season, theconvectors can be applied for room heating.

Operation:Cooling floor fan convectors operate on theprinciple of forced convection, i.e. the air flow rateis augmented by a tangential fan.

In the cooling mode, the TKH floor convectordraws in warm air from the areas around windowsand hot walls, cools it in the heat exchanger, andfeeds it back into the room. This reduces heatgains due to heat room envelope surfaces. In thecooling process, a part of moisture is extractedfrom the air; this dehumidification also contributesto thermal comfort. In the heating mode, theprocess is inverted: the TKH draws in cold air fromthe window areas, heats it and feeds back into theroom.

TKH (Basic Design) Components:1. Heat exchanger,2. Tangential fan (with IP 44 protection),3. Electric connection socket,4. Grille,5. Condensation collection tray,6. Housing.

Types:Two TKH floor convector models are available:of length 1250 mm and 2150 mm.

• Place the floor convector to prepared flat surface.• The distance between convector and wall can be as low as possible,

however, it should not exceed 400 mm. Condensation elimination on coldsurfaces efficiency decreases with the distance between convector andwall. Convector should be installed in such way, that air discharge shouldbe oriented into the room (TKH convector), or into the window (otherconvector types).

• In case of non flat surfaces, application of leveling screws is recommended(accessory 019). When the convector is adjusted to the correct positionand lined to desired height, fix it with the screw (figure 1). Installation ofthermal and noise insulation layer is recommended between the convectorand concrete. Convector can be supplied with housing thermal insulation(accessory 017 - elastalon s = 5 mm). When the housing of the floorconvector is placed directly to the concrete surface, make sure that contactis distributed along complete surface of the convector, otherwiseincreased noise level can apply (forced convection only). When installingin concrete, make sure to insert spacers, which serve to prevent housingdeformations (figure 2). In order to prevent the grille from deformation anddirt, remove it before the installation and place protection cover(accessory 018) to its place (figure 5). Remove the cover and spacers,when convector is ready for operation. Condensate elimination isperformed with φ16 mm socket on the lower side of the tray within thehousing, hose can be leaded from the convector on the traverse or crossside (figure 3).

• Control accessories on the water side (01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06) are attachedto the convector upon delivery and are not installed to the heat exchanger.When connecting straight valves and shut-off cocks, nut should becounter-tightened (figure 6). When tightening angle valves and shut-offcocks, counter-torque should be applied with threaded rod (1/2" thread)(figure 7). If not, attached unit can be removed from the heat exchanger,causing damage on the teflon protected joint. It can cause water leakagein the joint. Standard valves and shut-off cocks are suitable for use withsteel pipes. If copper pipes are to be used, it has to be specified uponordering. In case of installation of accessory 05 - thermostat head with aremote surface mounted sensor, it has to be installed before applyingconcrete. Water tightness of the installation shall be verified as well.

• When applying concrete to the space around the convector, considerheight difference for the final layer (carpet, laminate floor, ...).

• Remove the cover and spacers and cover the housing with the grille. • Heater should not be installed directly under the power socket.• Air flow through convector depends on the ventilation fan rotation speed,

which can be controlled by the surface mounted thermostat with three-stage fan speed setting switch (MIN - MED - MAX), ON/OFF switch andHEATING/COOLING switch. Surface mounted thermostat should memounted in the same room as the convector, on the same height as otherswitches. Convector should be connected to the thermostat, according toapplicable Connection Diagram (figure 8).

Instructions for Startup and Operation:• Make sure the convector intedior are clean and dry.• De-aerate the connected heat exchanger and inspect the piping connections

for any leakage.• Connection to electric mains shall be carried out by a qualified person.• Check the operation of ventilation fan at all speeds.• In case of a convector controlled by a room thermostat, set the desired

temperature.• The grille is dimensioned for normal loading, i.e. human weight. If higher

loads are anticipated, the convector shall be fitted with an additional “bridge”.• During the operation, upper part of the convector (grille) shall not be covered

due to possible overheating. Make sure that air flow is not disturbed (figure 4).• Check the condensate elimination piping for any leakage (TKH and

TKV-S/TK-S).

Warning:• When connecting the piping, make sure not to damage soldered joints on the

water heat exchanger connections.• When connecting floor convectors in permanent installation, a device to

separate all phases from the mains shall be provided, with the open contactclearance of 3 mm.

• Any intervention beyond the standard connection is considered anintervention into the device and shall only be attempted with prior approvalby the manufacturer.

• In case that water, not caused by condensation enters into forced ventilationfloor convector, power supply shall be switched off.

• Floor convectors (except TKV-S version) with the fan shall not be installedinto very humid areas such as bathrooms, WC, swimming pools.

Maintenance:• Clean the grille by means of a damp cloth and the detergent, vapor, ...• Periodically clean the internals of the floor convector with a vacuum cleaner

(length of the cleaning interval depends on dust density, - amount of dirt inthe room).

• In case of very dirty internals, heat exchanger must be removed, internalscleaned, and clean the heat exchanger with the vapor (to be performed byauthorized personnel only).

• Make sure, that condensate elimination hose is clean, otherwise it can causeflowing of water over the collection tray.
