Small Business Insights

Mobile Technology Becoming aFoundation in the Construction Industry

Part one of Q & A interview with Paul Bedard, director of Global Enterprise Data Solutions,Verizon Wireless | by Paul Macchia, Verizon Wireless Corporate Communications

Mobile technology impacts the way the construction industry manages on- and off-site projects. By streamlining projects and processes, mobile devices and advanced wireless networks have improved efficiency and productivity at the job site and in the back office.

Verizon Wireless exec Paul Macchia interviews Paul Bedard, director of Verizon's Global Enterprise Data Solutions. Bedard discusses the impact of mobile technology on the construction industry, along with some interesting innovations that project managers are utilizing.

How is today’s mobile technology influencing the way small construction firms do business?

It’s amazing what you can do in just one day today versus only a short time ago.

We’ve seen a big change in how small construction firms do business, starting with the way they can impact security and safety. Specifically, wireless technology has enabled the rapid deployment of remote video surveillance and streamlined the site inspection process. This allows a company to effectively track assets and cut down on the loss of valuable and expensive equipment.

Advanced mobile networks also offer immediate and effective connectivity at a work site. This is important because in the past, setting up a trailer and wireline communication could take up to six weeks, costing the company time and money. Adopting 4G LTE networks, which have wireline performance characteristics, allows construction firms to have that trailer or mobile office up and running in day one.

What are other benefits of employing wireless technology in this industry?

Fleet management, employee dispatch, project management and asset tracking are also where we see immediate and measurable benefits. Adopting mobile collaborations tools measurably improves the quality, safety and profitability of projects along with the ability to interact with multiple partners in real-time. We can do this through video calling and picture messaging. We also enable off-site professionals to see, identify and resolve an issue remotely which, of course, saves time.

What other risks can smaller firms face when they aren’t able to communicate effectively?

A poorly run job site can result in repeated project delays and work stoppages.

It does not matter where they work, with any construction job, builders must ensure that work is compliant with all

codes and regulations. By not adhering to these codes, they can experience delays in the release of permits that could ultimately hold up the project.

Having an established wireless plan in place from day-one provides project managers with the collaboration and communication tools they need to ensure they have up to code requirements, and keep their project on track.

Innovation is driving and redefining the way businesses interact and work with data/analytics and product development. What new technologies can construction firms benefit from right now?

In the Verizon Wireless Innovation Center, we are developing technologies that solve many of the issues construction firms of all sizes encounter on the job. Our Innovation Center has worked with other companies to develop the Ericsson Converged Workspace and Mobile Broadband Router, two tools managers can deploy to assist with setting up an office or trailer on site. This space is critical because it establishes communication and proper project management.

When supervising shipments in transport, another innovation is the TeleNav Asset Tracker, which monitors materials and equipment, helping small construction companies oversee logistics and help reduce theft.

From mobile worker dispatch tools to Internet-connected cameras, there are numerous mobile technologies available to help construction firms work more efficiently.

Part two of this interview is available in the 'Your Business' section of www.contractorsequipmentdirectory.com. Paul discusses some of the developing trends in the industry, how to pick the right mobile technologies and what advice he has to offer to small construction firms.

Premium Rubber Protection Availablefor Construction EquipmentAge-Master #1® rubber protectant is a surface

treatment that has protected military, industrial,

aviation and space equipment from rubber “dry

rot” since 1969. This protection against cracking,

loss of strength and flexibility is now available for

construction equipment.

When painted onto tires, tracks, hoses, belts, bushings,

or other rubber parts, it penetrates and dries in

minutes leaving no slick or oily residue. The strength,

flexibility and traction properties of rubber are not

affected, and this penetrating protection will not peel

or wash off.

Put science to work for you

Rubber “dry rot” is caused by UV rays, oxidation, and

ozone in the environment. Age-Master #1® works by

adding a chemical barrier to rubber that reacts with

these harmful elements before rubber can be damaged.

This protection is especially effective for equipment

exposed to hot, sunny environments.

Benefits include:

• Longer service life for lower replacement costs.

• Less repair downtime.

• Improved readiness of equipment in storage. • Meets Military Specifications.

For more information call Chem-Pro, Inc. at 804-744-4869 or visit www.chem-pro.net.

Age-Master No.1® was developed by a chemical engineer with over twenty years of experience in the rubber industry, including research and development for major U.S. tire manufacturers. Extensive study and testing culminated in development of this long lasting, cost effective way for pro-tecting rubber from the harmful effects of ozone and ultra violet light as-sociated with aging and weathering, often referred to as "dry rot." Initially used for specialized military applications, Age-Master No.1 has proven effective at extending the service life of a variety of rubber components, reducing replacement costs and down time for savings in many industrial and commercial applications.

General Equipment Company Improves Earth Auger Design for Portable Hole DiggersGeneral Equipment Company has announced its new 4450

Series earth augers, representing the most significant

change in boring head design and auger construction

for use with hand-held hole digging equipment in the

last 50 years. The 4450 Series features a new, simpler

configuration for attaching the screw bit, which speeds

up the installation process and greatly reduces the risk of

damage to the earth auger.

Unlike traditional earth auger designs used by all

manufacturers, General Equipment’s 4450 Series does

not include a drive lug for attaching the screw bit. Instead,

the company’s new screw bit design has a male shaft,

which slides into the end of the earth auger. This helps to

eliminate the chance of the screw bit breaking, as well as

the resulting damage to the auger.

Additionally, the 4450 Series earth augers are cast into a

one-piece, integral assembly from steel to further increase

service life. Tooth position and location on the screw

bits has also been improved using General Equipment’s

extensive experience in auger design, along with the help of

sophisticated computer 3D simulation.

“The 4450 Series provides a solution to many of the

maintenance issues associated with traditional hand-

held auger designs,” said Dennis Von Ruden, president

of General Equipment Company. “This helps make it

ideal for a variety of industries, including rental, fencing,

landscaping and general construction.”

Optional tooth configurations are available to meet a wide range of job applications in different soil types and classifications.

issues. Additionally, the four-stroke design provides higher

performance and fuel economy than two-stroke alternatives,

while eliminating the hassle of mixing fuel and oil.

The 240 is a one-man, hand-held unit that is intended for

digging holes up to 8 inches (203 mm) in diameter in a wide

variety of unconsolidated soil classifications. Standard auger

digging depth is 30 inches (762 mm). The available 15-inch-

long (381 mm), plain-tube extension can be used to extend

digging depth when required.

Furthermore, the 240 features the unique Comfort Zone™

handle configuration that is designed to maximize operator

strength while minimizing any kickback experienced during

the hole digging process.

The electronically controlled Tier 4 engine of the Vi035-6 combined with an evolved hydraulic system, standard ECO and Auto-Deceleration modes enhance the mighty excavator’s overall operational efficiency.

“We have made a commitment to provide our Yanmar dealers with the most advanced excavator products on the market today,” said Paul Manger, Equipment Division Sales and Marketing Manager of Yanmar. “The 24.4 hp Tier 4 diesel engine is very efficient and provides exceptional power. And with Yanmar’s innovative design, the Vi035-6 is easy to service by having virtually every major component – engine, hydraulic system, starter, generator, and battery – right at your fingertips.”

Further distinguishing the Vi035-6 is its advanced operation control and hydraulic quick-coupler system which enables operators to release and fit the safety lock pin on the bucket while all the rest is done electronically from inside the cab. With the new state-of-the-art, digital Smart Assist control system, up to three months of operational and maintenance support information can be monitored in one centralized location. In 1993, Yanmar launched the world's first Zero Tail Swing excavator. The "ViO" name means True Zero Tail Swing, and the Vi035-6 marks the company’s 6th generation model.

New Wraparound Sport-Style Safety Glasses Combine Stylish Looks, Safety and Bifocal Segments with Prescription InsertOn the heels of success of the Shop Specs and Sport Specs, Wizard Industries has announced the first shipments of the Versa Specs. Targeted at construction, military, manufacturing and shop workers, the Versa Specs are ANSI compliant safety glasses with five different interchangeable lenses including lenses with built-in bifocal reading segments.

OSHA requires contractors and other professions across the U.S. to provide safety glasses for their employees. This requirement can be rather inconvenient for many employees who need reading glasses to view plans, tinted lenses for outdoors.

"We know they will help reduce eye injuries and workers compensation claims," said Billy Carmen, CEO of Wizard Industries, "because employees will want to wear them. The new Versa Specs simply make it convenient for employees who use varied types of safety glasses lenses to comply with workplace safety regulations."

It is estimated that between 20% and 35% of all eye injuries occur on the job. "It's probably not higher than that because of OSHA requirements for eye protection," commented Carmen. Wizard's new Versa Specs Multi-Lens safety glasses will ensure that the millions of contractors, service professionals, mechanics, engineers, laboratory, plant and shop workers can have excellent eye protection and improved close-up or tinted vision needs in one comfortable, stylish piece of eyewear.

Wizard Versa Specs feature an assortment of polycarbonate lens with integrated side shields, drastically improving eye coverage over normal reading glasses. The glasses provide excellent protection from both the front and side while offering the easy ability to change between clear, yellow, gray, and bifocals, and a special pair of prescription insert lenses.

The special interchangeable bifocal lenses are optically clear when looking straight ahead. When looking down they provide correction through the integrated 28mm flat top bifocal segment. They are available in +1.0, +1.5, +2.0, +2.5, and +3.0 diopter strengths. The lenses also provide 99.9% UV protection up to 380 nm, and are scratch resistant. Both length and angle of the ear stems are adjustable, ensuring a perfect, comfortable fit.

The variety of non-bifocal polycarbonate lenses come in clear, yellow, gray are designed with integrated side shields. Their ability to be quickly swapped provide the user with a huge cost savings since safety glasses are an expendable item

and are regularly disposed of when the lenses get scratched. The ability to simply replace the lenses in the Versa Specs frames provides a more cost-efficient method of utilizing safety glasses.

"The millions of safety glasses wearers can breathe a sigh of relief from the cost savings of the Versa Specs," remarked Carmen.

The Wizard Versa Specs are available nationwide through dealers and at ShopSpecs.com. An economical MSRP is $29.95.

»EQUIPMENT at WORK

Powerblanket’s Extra-Hot (EH) heating blankets provide added levels of heat for rapid thawing capability and superior equipment and machinery protection for construction contractors, masons, utility companies, and many others. Featuring patented GreenHeat™ Technology, the EH blankets create a barrier of insulated heat for effective temperature control and freeze prevention.

GreenHeat Technology is a revolutionary heat spreading system designed to provide a highly efficient and uniform distribution of heat while consuming low levels of energy, thus saving money by not subjecting projects to costly cold weather delays. For example, after calculating the savings in fuel and the personnel to build and move heated enclosures, Walsh Construction saved more than $5.43 for every $1.00 spent on Powerblanket heating blankets during a wintertime cold weather concreting job. (Read 'Cold Weather Concrete Innovators: Walsh Construction' below.)

Additionally, the workers on the site found the blankets much easier to work with. In fact, Vern Adkins, carpenter foreman with Walsh Construction, stated this was the best cold-weather heating/curing system he has worked with.

A recent test found Powerblanket Extra-Hot and Multi-Duty blankets outperformed the speed of standard concrete

curing blankets by 2.8 times. The blankets also produced a cold weather concreting strength rating of 3,925 psi over 72 hours, versus a standard curing blanket’s rating of 2,162 psi.

The EH blankets are ideally suited to accelerate the thawing of frozen ground (up to 24 inches deep) for concrete preparation, footings, excavation and other cold weather applications. In extreme weather environments, the blankets have proven effective for curing concrete within strict boundary parameters. Service trucks, fuel tanks and heavy equipment can be preheated with the blankets, which are also useful for melting and preventing snow, ice and frost accumulation on jobsites, roofs and walkways.

Lightweight and portable, each blanket is powered by 120V electricity — with custom options available — and built with a durable outer shell that is winter-proof and water resistant. Powerblanket also offers non-horizontal versions of the blankets to meet UL/CSA/CE safety standards when required.

Powerblanket® provides superior heating solutions for a multitude of applications, including industrial and manufacturing temperature control, oil field services and many more. For more information call 877-398-7407 or visit www.powerblanket.com.

Cold Weather Concrete Innovators: Walsh Construction

Walsh Construction, known as experts in heavy civil construction, received a contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to repair a portion of the Illinois Waterway, which connects Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River. The project, located in the Lockport Lock and Dam area, focused on repairing two-and-one-half miles of concrete wall with a panel construction.

The timeframe of the project dictated that concrete pours needed to continue during the Illinois winter. Since water in concrete can freeze starting at 30°F/-1°C, and at about 27°F/-3°C the hydration process can stop entirely, cold temperatures posed a risk. Since ice occupies about 9 percent more space than water, the integrity of the concrete needed protection.

Walsh concluded that a system that could maintain temperature control, did not use an open flame, and would retain moisture in the concrete would save them fuel and labor costs.

Walsh Construction, in evaluating its cold weather concreting options, determined that maintaining an open flame oil-heater to cure the concrete would cost several thousand dollars a month in on-site personnel. Further, that cost would not include the labor to build and move enclosures on the 40 foot (12.1m) long segments, or the cost of the fuel for the open flame heater.

After talking to Blue Sky Contractors Supply in Merrillville, Indiana, Walsh found an alternative that saved time and money. The company purchased eight Powerblanket® 6’ x 25’ (1.8m x 7.6m) and eight 3’ x 25’ (0.9m x 7.6m) Multi-Duty heating blankets.

After calculating the savings in fuel, personnel to monitor the open flame, personnel and time to

build and move enclosed shelters, and the heaters themselves, Walsh Construction realized it saved more than $5.43 for every $1.00 spent on the Powerblanket® blankets.

Even better, the workers on the site found the blankets much easier to work with. In fact, Vern Adkins, Carpenter Foreman with Walsh Construction, stated that this was the best cold-weather heating /curing system he’s worked with.

Because of the GreenHeat® Technology used by Powerblanket® products, the heat spreads evenly, and even the corners and edges of the concrete receive protection. The thermal image records how evenly the product spreads heat. In fact, 98 percent of the temperature data points measured within a range of 137°F to 147°F – only 10 degree difference (58.3°C to 63.8°C).

Powerblanket® Extra-Hot Blankets Accelerate Cold Weather Construction Jobs

Powerblanket EH blankets are offered in standard sizes as small as 2-by-2 feet and as large as 6-by-12 or 3-by-25 feet, and custom sizes are also available. Standard models are rated to -10°F /-23°C while Roughneck Gray versions are rated to perform in temperatures as low as -40°F/C.

The popularity of radiant floor heat and sales are rising each year, and more and more consumers are adding radiant floor heating systems to their projects and improvements. Radiant floor heat creates some questions when first starting. In this article series we will explain the key points of radiant floor heat, and give you the confidence to start including radiant floor heat installations in your operations. –by LES GRAHAM

Hydronic Radiant Floor Heat 101, part 2

Parts one and three of Hydronic Radiant Floor Heat 101 are posted at www.contractorsequipmentdirectory.com in 'resources'.Les Graham is president and owner of Radiant Outfitters based out of New London, Minnesota. Graham has 24 years of experience in radiant floor heating and has certified with the Radiant Panel Association.

Can I place the tubing in the sand below the concrete?Yes and no! There are some advantages to placing the

tubing in sand below the concrete. Just be careful that you

don’t get the tubing too deep in the sand. We had one job

where the tubing was at the bottom of 15’’ of sand. It did not

work well, partly because it was off peak electric and 15’’ of

sand gets too dry and doesn't conduct heat well.

Some contractors prefer a couple inches of sand below the

concrete to place the tubing in – this allows the troweling of

the concrete to be more manageable. The sand also protects

the tubing if there is a major crack/shift in the concrete.

What if the concrete cracks? The normal cracks that appear in all concrete are not

really a threat. I have heard of a couple shifting cracks that

have pinched off a loop over the years; however, this is an

extremely rare occurrence. This type of shifting crack is

from poor compaction of the base. On most jobs, if you were

to lose one loop from a crack, the other loops will carry the

load.

What type of tubing is used in the concrete? You can use a Pex-Al-Pex or a Pex tubing. Let’s look at the

differences between the two options. (FYI: the word Pex

in both types of tubing is an abbreviation for cross linked

poly-ethylene.)

Pex-Al-Pex or Pex-Aluminum-Pex features:

(This style of tubing has an aluminum sleeve centered

between two layers of Pex.)

* 100% oxygen barrier (the aluminum sleeve).

* The oxygen barrier is protected (centered between the

layers of Pex).

* Better heat transfer because of the aluminum sleeve.

* Ratings: European quality 145 PSI at 203 degrees or

Asian quality 125 PSI at 180 degrees.

* Ease of lay out. It bends like soft copper and stays where

you put it.

* Less fasteners are needed.

* All advantages of both plastic and metal tubing.

* The best coefficient of linear thermal expansion. In

other words it does not try to grow very much in length

when you start running warm fluid through it.

* Kinked tubing - if severe, replace roll or splice.

* Price: middle of the road.

Pex with an Oxygen barrier features:

* 98% oxygen barrier.

* Ratings: 100 PSI at 180 degrees.

* The barrier is usually located on the outside of the

tubing. The oxygen barrier is NOT protected from sun,

water and abrasion.

* Ease of layout – Pex has a memory; it is always trying to

recoil itself.

* Additional fasteners needed.

* Coefficient of linear thermal expansion is poor

compared to Pex-Al-Pex.

* Kinked tubing – depends on the brand of Pex. Some you

need to replace the roll or splice, others you heat up to

a certain temperature and it will go back to its original

form.

* Price: All over the place, many highs and lows. (Be

careful – some Pex on the market has zero oxygen

barrier!)

What is an oxygen barrier? An oxygen barrier prevents oxygen from penetrating

through the wall of the plastic tubing and entering into the

boiler solution. And yes, oxygen can penetrate the wall even

with a pressurized boiler system. Boilers are designed to be

closed and sealed off from oxygen. If they are not, rust and

sludge can start to build up in the boiler system.

Should I use hydronic tubing or electric matsThey both work and are both considered “radiant floor

heat”. I feel the hydronic tubing is the better choice over

electric mats.

Let’s take a look at why:

* With hydronic tubing you can hook up to multiple heat

sources; natural gas, L.P. gas, fuel oil, ground source,

electric boilers, bio-mass burners, wood boilers, corn

boilers, solar, etc.

* With electric mats you are committed to the electric

company.

* The track record related to longevity and performance of

tubing in concrete is far better than electric mats.

What size tubing is used? The two most common sizes are ½’’ and 5/8’’. Many times

this decision comes down to someone’s opinion. Most

people assume 5/8’’ does a lot better job compared to ½’’.

Some installers prefer to use ½’’ and others 5/8’’. There

are times when the layout of trench drains and manifold

locations force the designer into the 5/8’’ tubing. With

5/8’’ you can go up to 450 foot loops, ½’’ is 330 foot loops

maximum.

There is very little difference between ½’’ and 5/8’’ tubing.

In fact, it is common to install both sizes using the same on

center spacing.

Rebuilding heavy equipment makes good economic sense,

particularly for the hydraulic components on construction

and earth moving machinery. In fact, the trend since 2008

has been strong enough to support the addition of a machine

shop as part of the existing hydraulics shop at Caterpillar

dealer Whayne Supply. Key among the shop’s equipment is

a Sunnen HTA tube hone, which allows Whayne to resurface

scratched and rusted cylinder barrels, saving customers 80

percent or more over the cost of a new barrel. Brought in as

part of a beta test of Sunnen’s new all-electric machine design

in 2009, the hone has been used to process more than 1,000

barrels. Bringing this previously outsourced machining work

in-house has helped the company add revenue and staff,

while also improving control of delivery schedules and costs

for customers.

Whayne is the worldwide leader in Cat-certified rebuilds

of complete machines, having produced more than 400 on

33 different machine models since 1985. The company was

honored for completing the five thousandth Cat-certified

rebuild in 2011. Whayne has 14 locations and approximately

1300 employees, with 200 located in Corbin.

“Simple economics dictate that customers are going to

be rebuilding machines until the economy – and the coal

industry in our region – both strengthen significantly,” said

Mike Harbin, Manager of Whayne’s Power Rebuild Center.

“We have customers who are tearing down machines in the

field and completely rebuilding them. The machine shop and

the honing system have helped us stay on top of this trend.

We have added five people in our shop alone to handle the

increased volume.”

Whayne has rebuild centers in Louisville and Corbin. All

exchange/re-sell goods are processed in these shops. The

hydraulics shop in Corbin has eight cylinder technicians, three

full-time machinists, three pump experts, plus a foreman and

service coordinator. The Corbin operation added a machine

shop to its hydraulics shop in 2009 that included two vertical

mills, two lathes, drill press, rotary surface grinder, welders,

and saws. The shop stocks various sizes of chrome-plated bar

and DOM tubing, some of it pre-cut for standard Cat sizes.

The shop has five cylinder service bays, one for suspension

cylinders, one for lift cylinders on small loaders and three

for high-force cylinders. “We can replace the barrel, rod, rod

eyes, head/seal areas, hydraulic lines and connections, or

custom fabricate new cylinders to spec,” said Michael Carter,

Service Coordinator. There are four hydraulic cylinders on

the average Cat machine, so the shop stays busy, processing

about 1,000 cylinders in 2011. “During the summer, we may

have a hundred or more cylinders outside our shop waiting to

be rebuilt, because our indoor storage is full,” Carter added.

Honing cylinders for customer savings and shop profit

The shop’s old hone consisted of a drill motor on a sliding

carriage, and lacked the power, capacity and rigidity needed

for doing serious work, according to Carter. “It could produce

a surface finish, but not remove metal.” Whayne agreed

to beta test Sunnen’s new all-electric HTA cylinder hone,

and later purchased the machine with a 12-foot (4 m) part

capacity.

The HTA tube honing system handles parts weighing up to

8,000 lbs. (3629 kg) with ID ranges from 2.5 inches to 21

inches (63.5 to 533 mm). It is designed for resurfacing and

repair work where light-duty stock removal up to 0.030

inches (0.76 mm) is required. Standard models are sized

for 6-foot (2 m) and 12-foot (4 m) part lengths, and custom

lengths are available.

The HTA is equipped with a Siemens drive and PLC-control

with touch-screen HMI for setting machine parameters

such as stroke reversal point, spindle/stroking speed and

crosshatch angle calculation. The control features a load

meter to determine areas of bore tightness, and provides

the ability to dwell the tool in multiple areas to correct part

geometry. A touch screen-controlled hone provides a safer

working environment and reduces operator fatigue. It also

provides better quality parts by producing a controlled

crosshatch pattern, which allows the honed surface to retain

oil or grease, ensuring proper lubrication and ring seal of

pistons in cylinders.

“We were not sure about downtime for a new machine, but

it has proven extremely reliable and we’ve used it to hone

cylinders from 2.5 to 17 inches (63.5 to 432 mm) diameter,

and six inches (152 mm) length to over 21 feet (6.4 m),” Carter

added. “We simply created a table with an adjustable-height

V-block to support parts that overhang the machine. We have

used up to a 21-foot drive-shaft length on the machine, and

we can hone from both ends of the part if need be. Our cycle

time for most barrels is about 30 minutes, which includes

setup, honing and washing the part.”

Whayne uses both roughing and finishing abrasives,

removing scratches and rust, and imparting a specific

crosshatch surface finish on the barrel bore. “We can increase

the cylinder bore diameter up to 0.254 mm (0.010 inch) in

relatively short time, removing rust and all but the worst

scratches, and remain within Cat machine specifications,”

Carter said. “Our old hone simply could not do this. The HTA

hone is easy to setup also. The control calculates the correct

crosshatch angle. It’s been a very reliable system, too, with

no appreciable downtime.

“We scrapped a lot of hydraulic barrels or sent them out to

other shops prior to acquiring this machine,” Carter added.

“Now we can salvage a cylinder with honing, and the cost

and time for the customer is a fraction of replacement. In the

current economy, customers appreciate this.”

Dyna Flo, Inc. announces the Dyna Flo Pump General Irrigation is licensed in sales, design and installation of deep well and submersible pumps with 40+ years’ hands-on experience. We have been selling and installing electric pumps, diesel-driven pumps and PTO pumps for irrigation and industrial applications. We have extensive knowledge in handling water and a sub-surface and surface dewatering division.

Throughout the years, we have had many calls from farmers and contractors desiring a flood pump that would pump 3,000 gallons per minute without exhausting their budget. Two-and-a-half years ago, General Irrigation created the Dyna Flo Pump.

We decided it keep it simple using proven technology. The water lube bearings and spiders are similar to what a deep well turbine is built with. The packing box and gland are similar to what a centrifugal pump would use, and the lower end has a greaseable bearing like a turbine pump would.

We incorporated an adjustable swivel on the hitch to more easily adapt to ditches, canals and sump holes. Sand collars are used to deflect silt and sand away from the water lube bearing retainers.

Marine-style wheel bearings with spring-loaded grease cups will resist water contamination, and has only one greaseable high thrust ball bearing on the drive line behind the PTO shaft.

The Dyna Flo pump operates at 1,000 RPM and will produce 3,000 GPM at approx. 15 feet of lift. The 12”x50’ hoses are fitted with ring lock ends.

The pump can be used for flood control, emptying sloughs, f looding rice ponds

Pump most types of water-based cementitious grouts with the Kenrich GP SeriesThe Kenrich “GP” series are designed to pump most types of water based cementitious grouts. In limited cases, they will even pump some chemical based epoxy grouts. These pumps are ideal for filling hollow metal door frames as well as placing grout anywhere that high pressure is not required.

Popular uses include grouting door frames, filling hollow concrete blocks, under machine bed plates, ground stabilization and general filling of voids. Other applications include repairing spalled out concrete under bridge decks, filling joints in cultured stone and brick pavers, delivery of hydraulic cement to underwater divers grouting around piers, rebar splice joints, waterproofing, prison construction and parking structures, even the repair of historic structures and buildings.

Basic Hand Operated Models:

Our most popular models are single diaphragm pumps. The GP-1 has a 1.9 gallon hopper and the GP-2 has the larger 4.6 gallon hopper. These two models can pump up to 6 gallons per minute through the included 1 1/2” by 60” long clear vinyl placement hose with a maximum output pressure of 15 psi. With a net weight of 19 and 21 pounds respectively, this allows the user to take the pump to where the grout is needed. The GP-6 is a twin diaphragm model. This model has two pumps side by side connected by a common intake and exhaust manifold. Both pumps are operated by a single pump handle. This design greatly reduces the output pulsation and has a capacity of up to 11 gallons per minute. Net weight is under 32 pounds. Popular options for all models are the 3/4” and 1” hose reducer kits for use in small fill port applications.

Pneumatic Operated Models:

The single diaphragm GP-3A is an air powered version of our GP-2. Requiring only 3 cfm of compressed air at 50 psi minimum allows this model to be operated by small portable compressors. Activated by an air cylinder controlled by a pneumatic logic circuit operates the pump at up to 5 gallons per minute output. Net weight is only 27 pounds and onboard controls include a stop/start switch, adjustable pressure regulator, air pressure gauge and a capacity is 9 gallons per minute while using only 6 cfm of compressed air for power. Net weight is only 38 pounds. Standard placement and optional hose reducer kits are same as above. Special order remote stop/start switch is available which can be mounted on the output end of the placement hose.

Specialized GP-7:

This model has a dedicated use of filling door frames only. Now you can fill both sides of the door frame at the same time. Using existing holes in the frame (or creating two 1” minimum diameter holes

on opposite sides) allows attachment of the twin hose support assembly. Moving the vertical handle operates both pumps simultaneously. Combined output capacity is 5 gallons per minute and net weight is under 35 pounds. The standard hose support assembly is adjustable to fit 34” to 48” door frames. Other widths are available.

Kenrich Products has been manufacturing low pressure diaphragm group pumps since late 1985. For more information contact, Kenrich Products at 503-281-6190 or visit their web site at www.kenrichproducts.com.

Flockbuster is a valuable tool in bird managementSave your crops and increase your yields! Birds have been a problem for growers as far back as anyone can remember. Whether it is through partial or complete crop loss, birds are responsible for decreased profits and not to mention, countless headaches. With no signs of this feeding frenzy slow-ing, one must question, “What can be done about these troublesome birds?” A company in West Fargo, ND has the answer: “Flock Buster.”

Flock Buster, a bird pest control prod-uct which is the first of its kind, is a 100% ecologi-cal friendly bird repellent that can be used anywhere birds are undesir-able. Either mixing for farm aerial dis-tribution or ground sprayer distribu-tion, Flock Buster is easy to use and proven effective.

Flock Buster is an extremely valuable tool for bird management in sunflowers, corn, wheat and rice as well as Canadian Geese feeding on corn, grain, beans and sunflow-ers. In its 4th season, Flock Buster has already helped numerous farmers reclaim their fields.

Flock Buster has many uses outside of the agricultural industry as well.
