FACULTY

Wayne Bakotic, DO, began his studies at Barry University in podiatry and changed to become a Doctor of Osteopathy. After attained that degree from University of New England, he continued training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Emory University School of Medicine. There he gained fellowship training in cytopathology, surgical pathology and dermatopathology. He’s a founder and partner of Bako Pathology Services.

Barbara Bellione, RN, CPHRM, ARM, is PICA Director of Risk Management. In addition to her extensive risk management experience she is Director of Continuing Education for PICA’s continuing podiatric medical education program. She’s a member of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management and the Physicians Insurers Association of America.

Pam Bohling, PT, OCS, MHS, Mountain States Physical Therapy and Edo Zylstra, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Founder and CEO of kinetacore, physical therapy education.

Thomas Chang, DPM, FACFAS, is Clinical Professor and Past Chairman of Dept. of Podiatric Surgery, California College of Podiatric Medicine. A member of the Regional Division Board for ACFAS, Dr. Chang has contributed many articles on emerging surgical technologies and is the author of the textbook, Master Techniques in Podiatric Surgery: The Foot and Ankle. He’s on the editorial board of APMA and Podiatry Today. He is in practice with Redwood Orthopaedic Surgery Associates, Santa Rosa, CA.

Richard Derner, DPM, FACFAS, completed his DPM degree at Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, his residency at Highlands/Doctors Hospital in Denver and a fellowship in trauma at the A.O. Clinic, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Ravensburg, Germany. He’s in private practice at Lake Ridge/Stafford Foot and Ankle Centers in Virginia.

Stuart Goldman, DPM, FACFAS, has a focus on conservative management of foot and ankle pain with a special interest in managing symptoms of diabetes related foot and leg problems. He has presented at APMA meetings and published many articles on these topics. He has written Walking Well Again based in part on articles published in podiatry, diabetes and family practice journals. He’s in private practice in Owing Mills, MD.

Eric Handley, MD, specializes in diagnostic radiology and is a member of Radiology Specialists of Denver. He completed his fellowship in musculoskeletal radiology and his residency in diagnostic radiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard University. He is board certified in radiology and certified on intravenous conscious sedation and fluoroscopy.

Matthew Hopson, DPM, FACFAS, received his DPM from Barry University in Miami and completed his surgical residency specializing in reconstructive and trauma foot and ankle surgery at Highlands/PSL in Denver. He has extensive experience in ankle arthroscopy, total ankle replacement, external fixation and limb salvage. He’s a member of Tidewater Physicians Group, Williamsburg, VA.

Byron Hutchinson, DPM, FACFAS, specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, limb deformity, external fixation, neuromuscular diseases, and Charcot deformity. He is certified in total ankle replace-ments. He is Medical Director of the Franciscan Foot & Ankle Institute and Director of Surgical Missions, Waldo Medical Foundation. He’s also Editorial Advisor of Ankle Surgery, Foot & Ankle Quarterly and is the author of many articles. He’s been a national and international presenter. He’s a member of Franciscan Medical Group, Burien, WA.

Eric Jaakola, DPM, FACFAS, is Medical Director of the Amputation Prevention Center at Rose Hospital, Denver, where he has a private practice in diabetic foot and wound and sports podiatry. He’s also a Clinical Instructor in the Dept. of Family Medicine, University of Colorado School of Medicine, Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, and Externship Director of the North Colorado Podiatric Surgical Residency. He’s a member of the Grant Review Board of NIH and a Board member of Colorado Foot & Ankle Society.

Katherine Johnson, DO, MSc, is board certified in infectious disease and internal medicine. She is a member of Western Infectious Disease Consultants in Wheat Ridge, CO. She is affiliated with Lutheran, North Suburban, St. Anthony North Medical Centers and St. Joseph Hospital. She graduated from the Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Marcus Kret, MD, received his BA from the University of Colorado, his Doctor of Medicine from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and after completing his surgical residency at Oregon Health & Science University, he completed a fellowship in vascular surgery at Stanford. He has written numerous scientific articles and chapters in surgical texts. He’s a member of Colorado Cardiovascular Associates.

Ross Wilkins, MD, is Medical Director of the Joint Restoration Foundation, President of the Limb Preservation Foundation and Senior Medical Director of AlloSource, a nonprofit consortium with processes bone and tissue for human transplantation. He received a master’s degree in cellular biology as well as a medical degree. He completed a fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at the Mayo Clinic. He’s recognized internationally as an expert on limb preservation, bone and soft tissue tumors and bone transplantation.
