Continuing Legal Education in Minnesota

By Edward Adams

Edward Adams provides representation to start-up companies as a partner at Adams Grumbles, LLP, a law firm located in Minneapolis. Along with owning and operating his firm, Edward Adams serves as acting general counsel at Devenir Group, LLC, and as the Howard E. Buhse Professor of Law and Finance at the University of Minnesota Law School, where he also directs the continuing legal education (CLE) program. Through the CLE program, licensed attorneys in Minnesota can fulfill continuing education requirements.

In Minnesota, attorneys are required to attend accredited CLE courses for a minimum 45 hours during each three-year reporting period. Of these 45 hours, two hours must focus on elimination of bias and another three on ethics. Attorneys must submit details of all CLE courses to the Minnesota Board of Continuing Legal Education for review.

To help attorneys meet these mandates, the University of Minnesota Law School offers both in-person seminars and live webcasts. In addition to the required ethics and elimination of bias courses, attorneys can gain insight into current legal trends by completing courses focusing on a variety of other professional topics.
